Efficacy Of Reinforcement In An Observational Paradigm, Charles M. Krizic

Masters Theses

Study investigated the effectiveness of reinforcement in an observational paradigm where the dependent variable was indicated by increased morphological resemblance of an observer (O) after viewing a model (M). The stimulus was a series of novel responses recorded on videotape with each child viewing the tape individually. The subjects were 32 Head Start males divided into four groups. The first group was administered verbal praise prior to the modeling session. The second served as the vicarious reinforcement condition and observed an adult praise the model. The third group received direct reinforcement during the test for acquisition. The control group received …

Sixteen American college students and two groups of the same number of their Chinese counterparts, one of the Chinese student groups being in the United States for less than one year and the other group being in the United States for longer than two years, were randomly selected and matched by ages to be the subjects of this study.

The Holtzman Inkblot Technique (HIT) was administered to all forty-eight subjects by the author and the HIT protocols were scored by two different scorers …

Healy-Murphy Learning Center: An Experiment In Educating The Dropout, Esther Vexler Aug 1972

Healy-Murphy Learning Center: An Experiment In Educating The Dropout, Esther Vexler

Masters Theses

This study deals with a growing educational problem, that of educating the high school dropout. It does not attempt to treat the subject from the point of view of a professional educator or even as a student of the literature on the subject. It attempts, instead, to describe and review the writer's own impressions during a two-year relationship with a school for dropouts, the Healy-Murphy Learning Center. The writer relates those impressions to current thoughts and trends in attacking this problem of urban society. In reviewing this experience, considerable effort has been devoted to some research into the general background …

The Development And Empirical Validation Of A Teaching Program, Arlene Chmil

Masters Theses

The original purpose of this study was to teach college students to write psychology laboratory reports. A programmed text on how to draw a graph that would meet the publication requirements as specified by the American Psychological Association was written and tested on a small sample of psychology stidents. Results showed that the rules were not adequate discriminative stimuli for controlling behavior. It was necessary to give the students discrimination training with examples related to those rules. There was a high percent of errors on rules that pertained to the concepts of the independent and dependent variables, and the task …

A Study Of The Effects Of A Reading Program For Reluctant Readers, Florence Evelyn Banks Aug 1971

A Study Of The Effects Of A Reading Program For Reluctant Readers, Florence Evelyn Banks

Masters Theses

The purpose of this study was to obtain some statistical evidence concerning the effects of a reading program for high school students rated as reluctant readers on their reading habits and attitudes. The initial problem which motivated the study was that assignments to read novels were resisted by this group. The students can read, but do not.

The hypothesis is that if students are given a program with books of 200 pages or less that have in the content some universalities that will satisfy the adult interests of students, attitudes about reading will change and there will be an improvement …
