Ground Water Of The Uncompahgre Valley Montrose County, Colorado, Ted William Craig Jan 1971

Ground Water Of The Uncompahgre Valley Montrose County, Colorado, Ted William Craig

Masters Theses

"Data from water quality tests of 50 wells and from general well information of 309 wells registered with the Colorado Division of Water Resources are presented for the area of Montrose County, Colorado, drained by the Uncompahgre River. This information, along with other pertinent information such as water laws and costs, is evaluated to determine the feasibility of increasing the use of ground water in the area. The drainage basin of the Uncompahgre River within the Montrose area bas three main geologic structures: the Uncompahgre uplift, the Montrose syncline, and the Gunnison uplift. All formations exposed in the area are …

Freshwater Losses To The Sea And Water Level Decline In Northwest Libya, Mohammed Ahmed Attiga Jan 1971

Freshwater Losses To The Sea And Water Level Decline In Northwest Libya, Mohammed Ahmed Attiga

Masters Theses

"The area studied in this investigation, located in Tripolitania, Libya, between 13º and 16º east longitude and 31º and 33º north latitude, covers about 42,000 square kilometers. It is divided topographically into two parts. They are the coastal zone to the north and the Jebel (plateau) zone to the south. Some wadis which rise in the Jebel drain northward across the area to the sea. The temperature in the area ranges from 5ºC to 19ºC in the winter and from 19ºC to 40ºC in the summer. Precipitation in the area ranges from 380 millimeters to less than 100 millimeters. The …

Comparing Community Resources To Industrial Needs With Application To Daviess County, Missouri, Jay Eldon Waggoner Jr.

Masters Theses

"A method of matching industries with communities, the modified Miller-Weiss Indugram, is developed. The technique compares the environmental needs of industry with the environmental resources of a community. The comparison is based upon twenty-five environmental factors. Application of the technique is made to Daviess County, Missouri. Results indicate those industries which are best suited for this rural area"--Abstract, page ii.

The Metropolitan Area Concept And Its Development In Lima, Peru, Jose Luis Mesa Aug 1970

The Metropolitan Area Concept And Its Development In Lima, Peru, Jose Luis Mesa

Masters Theses

Introduction

The paucity of comparative urban research is of course not due to indifference or lack of foresight on the part of social scientists, but to the absence of comparable or standardized information from one country to another and to the technical problems presented by this deficiency. The units of observation themselves, that is "cities" and "towns," have not been standardized, nor have we had information on a representative sample of these for the world as a whole. Furthermore, the structure of urban communities has changed with increasing urbanization, a change that has gone further in some countries than in …

Textural Properties, Provenance, And Environments Of Formation Of The "Rimrock" Sandstone Of The Filled Sinkholes Northeast Of Rolla, Missouri, Upendra Jayantilal Parikh Jan 1970

Textural Properties, Provenance, And Environments Of Formation Of The "Rimrock" Sandstone Of The Filled Sinkholes Northeast Of Rolla, Missouri, Upendra Jayantilal Parikh

Masters Theses

"Filled sinkholes have long been known to occur in the carbonate rocks of Missouri. A sandstone unit occurs in these sinkholes at their outer margin, forming a rim, and is called here the rimrock sandstone. Samples of rimrock sandstone, from an area northeast of Rolla, Missouri were studied. Grain size, heavy mineral and. thin section analyses of these samples were carried out. Size analysis data suggest that, texturally, the rimrock sandstone is similar to the St. Peter sandstone and that this formation could have supplied sands for the formation of rimrock. Field evidences suggest that continental conditions prevailed at the …

An Aggregate Quality Investigation Of The Meramec River Gravels, Kadri Ercin Kasapoglu Jan 1969

An Aggregate Quality Investigation Of The Meramec River Gravels, Kadri Ercin Kasapoglu

Masters Theses

"This thesis represents a study which was made to evaluate and interpret the downstream variations in the quality of the Meramec River gravels as coarse aggregate for concrete. Since gravel deposits constitute a valuable resource for a region, it is desirable that extent and quality variations of these deposits are known. It was hoped that an evaluation of certain properties of the Meramec River gravels would assist in determining the value of the Meramec River as undeveloped aggregate source by indicating the relative quality of the gravels from alternate sites of the river. For the purpose of this investigation, representative …

Stratigraphy And Economic Geology Of Uranium-Bearing Sediments In The Poison Spider District, Natrona County, Wyoming, Carlos Enrique Reijenstein D'Acierno Jan 1969

Stratigraphy And Economic Geology Of Uranium-Bearing Sediments In The Poison Spider District, Natrona County, Wyoming, Carlos Enrique Reijenstein D'Acierno

Masters Theses

"Geologic, stratigraphic, and mineralogic characteristics of the Eocene Wind River and Oligocene White River Formations were determined for the southern portion of the Poison Spider District, Natrona County, Wyoming. Sieve analysis and heavy mineral techniques were used to recognize stratigraphic units, determine their environment of deposition, obtain a better knowledge of the grain size distribution, and to identify a possible source area for the sediments. Particular emphasis was concentrated on the evaluation and interpretation of the available geophysical data (gamma ray and resistivity logs), and geological information which had led to the establishment of several relationships between the local geology …

The Geology Of The Thayer Area Emphasizing The Stratigraphy Of The Cotter And The Jefferson City Formations, William Jesse Hedden Jan 1968

The Geology Of The Thayer Area Emphasizing The Stratigraphy Of The Cotter And The Jefferson City Formations, William Jesse Hedden

Masters Theses

"Detailed geologic mapping of the Cotter-Jefferson City formational contact in the Thayer, Missouri area demonstrates the feasibility of using this contact. This mapping also delineates significant faulting in the area.

The stratigraphy of the Cotter and Jefferson City formations in the Thayer area has been studied to find a mappable contact between the two formations. The contact was mapped in this area by using marker beds, the stratigraphic positions of which were determined by applying insoluble residue techniques to outcrop sections. Because the insoluble residue zones of the Cotter and Jefferson City formations are recognizable throughout the state of Missouri …
