A Planning-Budgeting System For The South Eastern Special Education Joint Agreement, George C. Dudley

Masters Theses

Special education cost studies since the mid-nineteen fifties report problems in obtaining accurate financial information relative to programs and pupils. The author addresses similiar difficulties encountered when restrictive sources of revenue are maintained as separate from the special education joint agreement budget.

This study was conducted for two purposes: (1) To develop a planning-budgeting system which would organize multi-sources of revenue into one joint agreement financial plan; and (2) To develop a planning-budgeting chart of accounts.

Five criteria were applied to the development of the planning-budgeting system: (1) It must allow for planning the total scope of joint agreement operations; …

A Community Climate Survey Of The Mattoon Community Unit #2 School District, Doug Craig Jan 1982

A Community Climate Survey Of The Mattoon Community Unit #2 School District, Doug Craig

Masters Theses

School district boards of education and administrators need to constantly gather information about the attitudes and opinions of the community they serve if the true educational needs of the community are to be served. Total community consensus or opinion is preferable, but often impractical. Casual information gathered from self-selected individuals from the community is readily available, but unrepresentative and often misleading. Surveys of a selected sample of the school community can be inexpensive, practical and accurate depending on the method of information collection, the nature of the questions and the manner in which the sample is selected.

A Community Climate …

Student Misbehavior Disciplinary Actions And Alternatives, Vic Provinzano Jan 1982

Student Misbehavior Disciplinary Actions And Alternatives, Vic Provinzano

Masters Theses

The Illinois Constitution guarantees every child an opportunity to receive an education. However, when a child commits an act of gross disobedience or misconduct as defined by the school board, the student's right to an education may be temporarily withheld. [122 Ill. Rev. Stat. 10 - 22.6 (1979)].

The Illinois School Code, (Sec. 24-24), states "that teachers and other certificated educational employees shall maintain discipline in the schools".

It is the responsibility of the School Board and the Administration to provide rules of conduct for student behavior, and standards of student conduct should define the basic rules and major …

The Treatment Of Women In The History Of Rasselas, Prince Of Abyssinia, Cindy Fritz Jan 1982

The Treatment Of Women In The History Of Rasselas, Prince Of Abyssinia, Cindy Fritz

Masters Theses

Dr. Samuel Johnson, one of the most prolific and profound contributers to the English language, is, unfortunately, better known for his life and his anti-feminist point of view. James Boswell, in his book The Life of Samuel Johnson, LL.D., provides many pieces of Johnson's conversations which attempt to illustrate the doctor's belief that women were unable to understand the complexities of anything beyond their domestic duties, a belief widely supported among the classes throughout the seventeenth century until the middle eighteenth century. However, this paper, using historical and biographical evidence, demonstrates that Johnson's attitude towards women, specifically in his …

A Multivariate Analysis Of The Effects Of Money In Congressional Elections On Incumbents And Challengers, Larry Summary Jan 1982

A Multivariate Analysis Of The Effects Of Money In Congressional Elections On Incumbents And Challengers, Larry Summary

Masters Theses

The use of money in congressional elections will be the principal issue of this thesis. The money decides who will mount a serious contest and who will not. In determining the effect of money in congressional races, it is hypothesized that campaign spending has a much greater effect on the challenger's chances of winning than it does on the incumbent's.

One of the many implications of this thesis is that people and groups determine how well a candidate will do on election day. Such topics as long term trends in the House, congressional competition, voting behavior, conservative and liberal political …

Proposal Of Development Of A Gifted Program To Be Implemented By South Eastern Special Education, Brenda Kaye Palmer Allen Jan 1982

Proposal Of Development Of A Gifted Program To Be Implemented By South Eastern Special Education, Brenda Kaye Palmer Allen

Masters Theses

Since a major purpose of American education is to meet each child's individual needs, then the intellectually gifted children require the same consideration as those who are slow learners, handicapped, economically disadvantaged, or emotionally disturbed. Research reveals that there are approximately one and one-half to two million gifted children in the United States which means that between two and three percent of the students in any given classroom fall into this category. It is an alrming fact that between ten and twenty percent of the gifted students become high school dropouts and a much larger number never attend college. Presently, …

A Room Of One's Own: The Women's Room, Lou Ellen Crawford Jan 1982

A Room Of One's Own: The Women's Room, Lou Ellen Crawford

Masters Theses

The recent resurgence of feminism has been accompanied by the development of feminist fiction. Identifying those characteristics by which feminist fiction adds to the American novel a new and valid perspective, feminist criticism has also flourished. Feminist critics agree that fiction with a new perspective demands critical evaluation from that same perspective; and Cheri Register provides a concise, thorough list of five elements which comprise effective feminist fiction. Of Register's five criteria, Carol Heilbrun stresses the equalizing, conciliatory influence of androgyny. Recent feminist authors have written many novels which perform one or more of the functions prescribed by Register. Three …
