Numerous inInvestigations into the preparation, properties, and effects plant growth substances have been carried out. It has been shown that phenoxyacetic acids, napthoxyacetic acids, esters, anides and salts of phenoxyacetic acids and certain substituted products of these acids are plant growth promoting substances.

It is the purpose ot this work to produce esters of phenoxyacetic and napthoxyacetic acids which contain a secondary amino group and as a result of their ability to form acid salts, such as hydrochlorides, water soluble compounds. These compounds would be readily applicable to plants in sprays.

Many tube checkers designed for radio receiving tubes have been developed . Most of the devices for test­ ing these tubes do little more than check the emission of the cathode. This is usually accomplished by applying alternating voltage to the plate of the tube undergoing the test and reading the direct-current component of the plate current . Although Thomas Hood lived an uneventful and somewhat undramatic life, it was not entirely fruitless. His unparalleled misfortune in health and economy was scarcely offset by a felicitous family life; but his poetry--some inane, some mediocre, some excellent--balanced an otherwise pathetic existence. There has been no conscious attempt in this paper to present Thomas as an undiscovered genius. His works and his life have been evaluated for their peculiar merit alone, but a study of those has revealed points hitherto vague and misunderstood as well as forgotten.
