It has been well established that chemical and physical factors exert a marked effect upon the plankton population in bodies of water. However, the literature reveals the fact that the same chemical and physical factors not only produce a different effect upon plankton in different bodies of water, but are not consistent in their effects upon plankton in like bodies of water. For example, Birge and Juday (1911) made a study of 150 lakes, not widely separated in distance or varying in topographic conditions. The present study of conversion is approached through the medium of psychology, which, like the Christian religion, is extremely interested in human beings. Christianity owes to psychology a great debt of gratitude for the light which it has thrown upon the vast recesses of the human mind and upon the possibilities in the personality which Christianity would convert.

This study will deal with the ten novels that were winners of the Pulitzer Prize during the years 1930 - 1939 inclusive. It will attempt in each instance the character and quality of the prize-winning novel, the theme it treats, any literary or artistic tendency it may seem to indicate, the critical reception it received, and the popular favor with which it met. A brief review of each novel will be presented. This will be followed by representative excerpts from the comments of reviewers and critics, and by data to indicate the nature and extent of its popular appeal.

During the last fifty years, labor legislation and public opinion have fluctuated widely. People showed little interest in the unions and their fight for free collective bargaining, until the thirties when the New Deal ushered in a new era. President Roosevelt and the federal government, supported by public opinion, undortook to aid substantially the unions in their organizational and collective bargaining activities. By this time the people believed that one way to help recovery was to give every aid to unions, who in turn would fight for higher wages.

No one has ever published a history of the Slate industry in Buckingham County, Virginia. Many geologists and newspaper correspondents have written from time to time, short articles and technical descriptions of various phases of the Buckingham slate industry, but all of the related published material that I have had access to has been somewhat sketchy and inaccurate. Consequently, this essay is an attempt to fill, in a comprehensive manner, another of the numerous gaps in the economic and industrial history of Virginia.

In March 1778, there enlisted in the Continental Army a young man, Griffith Dickenson, who was later the grandfather of David Vincent Dickenson.
This young man had been born in Hanover County, Virginia, on August 8, 1757. However, only a comparatively few years of his life were spent at the place of his birth. There was an unfortunate second marriage of Griffith's father which led to his departure, at the age of twelve, from the paternal home. The purpose of this investigation has been to set forth the doctrine of justification and righteousness by faith as taught in the Seventh-day Adventist church after 1900. Attention has been given to the teaching of this doctrine in its relationship to the historical development of the church. Note has also been taken of the place accorded the teaching of this tenet alongside of other Bible doctrines held by Seventh-day Adventists.
