The purpose of the present study was twofold: (A) to study classically conditioned licking in rats as a function of a qualitative UCS difference, defined as 15% sucrose concentration and 0% concentration (plain tap water); (B) to study acquired orienting as a function of these UCS values. Several aspects of conditioned performance were investigated: (1) the effect of UCS intensity on level of responding during acquisition; (2) the effect of UCS intensity on rate of approach to terminal level of responding; (3) a possible learning performance distinction in appetitive classical conditioning; (4) rate of extinction as a function of the …

This thesis developed from a seminar paper on the South China Mission of the Southern Baptist Convention, 1945-1951, prepared for Dr. R. Barry Westin in the tall of 1965. Though the scope of this present study includes Southern Baptist Missions in all of China during the same period, its purpose remains the same. That purpose is to present the course of the evangelical outreach or this large Protestant denomination, and the progress made in establishing an indigenous Christian movement in China before the Communists forced the withdrawal of all missionary personnel.

This paper attempts to establish a viewpoint from which the mature poems of Gerard Manley Hopkins may be seen in an informing light. The method of the paper is to trace "exponents" -- that is, images, words or objects that form motifs or patterns in the poetry. Similar to leitmotifs in music, literary motifs are likewise used to set forth themes. By tracing exponents we are "recognizing patterns of images and symbols that lead us to a consistently deepening appreciation of the literature. A Metabolic Study Of The Isolated Perfused Snake Liver, James E. Turner

A metabolic study was made on the isolated, perfused liver of Natrix fasciata fasciata (Linnaeus, 1776). Uric acid production, perfusate protein levels, serum protein patterns, perfusate glucose levels, and bile production were evaluated in this study as criteria of liver function.

The perfused liver was found to produce uric acid up through the fourth hour of perfusion. No significant differences (between the perfusions) were found in uric acid production/ gm of liver tissue.

The purpose of this thesis is to test the theory of cognitive dissonance as it relates to a reader's selectivity in reading controversial material involving his personal prejudices or attitudes. Festinger states that forced or accidental exposure to new information which tends to increase dissonance will frequently result in misinterpretation and misperception of the new information by the individual thus exposed in an effort to avoid a dissonance increase.
