Food Intake As A Function Of Duration Of Food Deprivation In The Albino Rat, John H. Wright

The present study is an attempt to investigate food intake as a function of hours of food deprivation for a wide range of deprivation values. On the basis of the existing evidence it is expected that intake will increase for the shorter deprivation values but subsequently decrease for the longer deprivation values. Additional interest lies in the secondary measures of weight loss during deprivation, water intake during the consumption period, and weight gained during the consumption period.

It is the purpose of this study (1) to secure information on the effect of educational television, (2) to secure information on the problems of scheduling and using staff and facilities. and (3) to determine what types of learning activity lend themselves best to television.

Studies ware made of the effects of temperature and nutrient levels on salinity optima for growth and sporulation of Chaotomium Globosum and two marine Pyranomycetes, Torpedospora radiata, and Halosphaeriopais sp. Methods of culture and evaluation of sporulation were also investigated.

Discussion focused on ecological implications of data, in particular, on the probable survival value to a marine-fit fungus or a Phoma pattern mechanism-envolving vegetative and reproductive phases. As the seasons progress, the region where concentrations and proportions or salts are most favorable remains similar to that where vitamin requirements are least and biotic factors are most favorable.

The purpose of this survey was two-fold: to discover the educational needs of its youth and to determine to What extent the county high schools were meeting these needs.

Avian blood oxygen capacity (BOC: Vol. %) was measured by a modified Roughton - Scholander syringe method with regard to parameters of body weight and sex. Two samples, collected from the Richmond vicinity, were investigated: the domestic pigeon (Columba livia Gmelin) and 25 other bird species.

Thiourea and its derivatives have found wide application in dyes, photographic film, elastomers, plastics and textiles. Certain thioureas possess biological properties and considerable work has been done in this area. The historical portion of this paper is divided into biological and non-biological properties of thioureas. In the literature search, primary importance was given to the biological properties of thioureas. The objective of the experimental work was to prepare compounds having potential pharmacological activity and to determine the physical constants of these compounds.

Within the last decade several important studies have been made on the large degradation of products of proteins. However, little work has been done on the intermediate degradation products. This study is concerned with the chromatographic separation of intermediate fragments from chrymotryptie hydrolysates of bovine plasma albumin and the determination of the molecular weights of the fragments. An automatic recording differential refractometer employing a differential cell of original design permitted the observation of chromatographic components as they were eluted f rom a column of Sephadex G-50. The first school in Danville was established by a Presbyterian minister, the Reverend Mr. J. Matthews, in the year 1802. This school lasted only twelve months and was followed by a procession of others which soon perished for one reason or another. In 1823 the Danville Male Academy was organized and became the forerunner of the modern public education system of Danville. Soon after, a number or schools were established for "females." This study is concerned with only one, the school that is now Averett College.

A Study Of The Roots On Stem Cuttings Of Pedilanthus Tithymaloides Smallii (Millsp.) Dressler, Leonard Morrow

The geographical distribution of Pedilanthus tithymaloides is variously listed as Tropical America (Engler, 1919); from Florida to Venezuela (Taylor, 1936); and Caribbean America (Dressler, 1957). Because of its use as an ornamental, the plant is also found in Mexico, China and Java (Dressler, 1957); Hawaii (Degener. 1940); and Bermuda (Britton, 1918). Banerji (1951) and Rao (1956) have worked with fresh hedge material from India. White et al (1941) report that the species is found growing on the graves of natives in Zululand and Rhodesis, and acknowledge that the introduction "from American into the native kraals is a mystery."
