The object or this work was to develop a procedure for the quantitative determination of solanesol in the petroleum ether extract of tobacco. The amount of tobacco extracted into petroleum ether is routinely used to differentiate tobacco types. The extraction procedures have been extensively studied by the Association of Official Agricultural Chemists (AOAC) and reported in the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Technical Bulletin # 1186.
There is at present no method for the quantitative determination of solanesol. One procedure which comes closest, involves an infrared measurement of the tobacco extract. Because of the presence of other bands, the …

This study was undertaken to determine if there were osteological variations in the skulls of young summer flounders, Paralichthys dentatus (Linaeus), southern flounders, Paralichthys lethostigma Jordan and Gilbert and - gulf flounders, Paralichthys albigutta Jordan and Gilbert that could be used as bases of species separation. As two of the species (dentatus and lethostigma) are of considerable economic importance, it would be of substantial value to establish skeletal characters that would help identify the young and. subsequently aid in determining their particular habitats where they occur in the same area.The three are closely related and difficult to recognize unless the …

While most investigations have been limited to the study of pigment cells in the epidermis and hair follicles, this work embraces pigmentation of the leg muscles and dermis as well. To this end, PET mice were used which have an abundance of pigment cells in the leg muscles, but which show restriction of integumentary melanocytes to the dermis and hair. This characteristic provided the unique opportunity of comparing isolated systems of pigment cells in their response to identical stimuli of x-rays. Because pigment cells originate in the neural crest early in development and migrate throughout the embryo, all pigment cells …

Although there is considerable overlap between the body image and the self concept, it would be premature to draw any conclusions regarding one based upon the other until the nature and extent of correlation is obtained. This study is an attempt to determine the extent and direction that an individual's body image may fluctuate as a function of growing old.
