Phenolics are critical to the sensory attributes and health benefits of hard cider due to their contribution to the flavor, mouthfeel, and antioxidant activity. With the increase in demand for cider, the use of dessert apple varieties has become more common leaving ciders lacking in phenolics. Research has shown Spirulina to be a viable feedstuff in poultry production. Other species of microalgae are being studied to determine their effects on poultry production. This project compared four microalgaes: Hydrodictyon, Vaucheria, Uronema, and Spirulina and was broken down into three trials. The first experiment investigated the digestibility of an algae species, Spirulina, in broiler chicken diets. Eighty, 25-day-old Ross 708 broiler chicks were sorted into 20 metabolism cages and received one of two diets: Control Diet or Test Diet (75% basal diet + 25% Spirulina). Relevance: Heart disease is the leading cause of death worldwide. Observational and experimental evidence has shown that fruits high in polyphenols can reduce morbidity and mortality of heart disease. Introduction: This systematic review meta-analysis was conducted to evaluate the current evidence for anthocyanin-rich fruit supplementation amelioration of hypertension. Methods: Articles were identified, collected, screened, then data were analyzed via CMAv.2 for overall effect on blood pressure, nitric oxide, flow mediated dilation and pulse wave velocity. Results: The analysis showed a small, significant effect on diastolic blood pressure. No moderator groups had significant effects, though some individual subcategories showed significant effects. …

Objective: This study aimed to assess the impact of an online introductory college nutrition course that implements evidence-based intuitive eating (IE) concepts and principles on students’ application of IE behaviors. A secondary outcome explored the relationship between student grades and changes in IE behavior implementation. Researchers hypothesized an increase in the average use of IE practices post-intervention.
Methods: This study was a non-randomized pilot intervention using pre- and post-test surveys. Bearings are the essential components of modern rotating machines. Bearing faults can cause severe machine damages or even breakdowns.
In recent years, artificial intelligence and deep learning have been successfully applied to fault detection. In this thesis, convolutional neural networks (CNN) are employed for bearing fault detection and classification. Computer simulations results demonstrate that the CNN based approach is advantageous over the conventional regression model, with an overall accuracy of 99.5%.

Smart structure control systems commonly use piezoceramic sensors or accelerometers as vibration measurement devices. These measurement devices often produce noisy and/or low-precision signals, which makes it difficult to measure small-amplitude vibrations. Laser interferometry devices pose as an alternative high-precision position measurement method, capable of nanometer-scale resolution. Using an ethnically diverse sample of Mexican and Dominican families from the NewYork metro area, the present study investigated the behaviors of parents and their three-yearold children, during shared book reading (SBR). The aspect of child behavior that was investigated was engagement, which was assessed by observations of children’s attentiveness and verbal participation during the reading activity. Children within this sample were highly engaged, with most demonstrating active engagement, the highest level of engagement in this study. Composite polymer electrolytes (CPEs) for lithium-ion batteries provide an effectivebalance of ionic conductivity, mechanical robustness, and safety. Loss of charge capacity, however, is caused by multiple contributing factors, such as dendrite formation, changes in polymer crystallization, and reconfiguration of porous electrodes. In this thesis we specifically examine mechanical changes in the composite electrolyte layer. The hypothesis of this investigation is that the addition of rigid particles to a polymer electrolyte counteracts the fatigue softening effect caused by cyclic dimensional changes, as would be experienced during charge and discharge cycles. Gold and mercury mining in the latter half of California’s 19th century resulted in massive and lingering alterations to downstream ecosystems through sedimentation and mercury contamination. Located at the confluence of Sierra Nevada and Coast Range watersheds, the Yolo Bypass is a critical conveyor of flood waters from the Lower Sacramento Valley to the Sacramento–San Joaquin Delta. Sedimentation in the bypass diminishes its flood conveyance capacity, and Hg contamination is hazardous to humans and ecosystems.
