A Comparison Of The Blood Oxygen Capacity In Painted Turtles (Chrysemys Picta Schneider) And Box Turtles (Terrapene Carolina Linne), Harold J. Payne
Master's Theses
Among factors necessary for an animal to maintain life is the presence of an oxygen carrier that will transport a sufficient quantity of oxygen necessary for respiratory metabolism. In animals whose blood contains hemoglobin, which is a pigment that loads and unloads oxygen, this carrying capacity is referred to as blood oxygen capacity. It is a measure of the amount of oxygen that will combine with whole blood when completely mixed with air. It is usually expressed in volumes per cent (ml. 02/100 ml. blood) and corrected to standard temperature and pressure.

The Growth And Development Of A Program For Exceptional Children In The State Of West Virginia, Marcia Walker Blandau
The Growth And Development Of A Program For Exceptional Children In The State Of West Virginia, Marcia Walker Blandau
Master's Theses
West Virginia is a comparatively young state. Special Education in the public schools is younger still. Throughout the history of West Virginia, the state has had financial difficulties and political factions. When West Virginia became a state she had no institutions, no social organs to provide for the general welfare, no common schools, no normal schools, and no university. Within sixty-five years the state had provided twelve institutions tor exceptional children. And today, six years before the state celebrates its first centennial, West Virginia has a well established special education program.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the …

The Situation Test As A Method Of Problem Solving In Science Teaching On The Sixth Grade Level, Hilda Scott Harwood
The Situation Test As A Method Of Problem Solving In Science Teaching On The Sixth Grade Level, Hilda Scott Harwood
Master's Theses
Research states that elementary science is about twenty-five years old -- a recent addition to the curriculum. Changes in a new area in elementary teaching usually come slowly. The rapid development of the science program has resulted from the tremendous pressure of various groups to gain child attention. The weight of the national and international events have forced public opinion to consider science teaching in the elementary school as a necessity.
The American elementary school is a unique institution. It is the foundation for the citizens in a democracy. This assigns to the elementary school teacher many professional tasks. She …

The Principal's Part In Planning The Program For The Gifted Child, Jack Edwards Dickson

A major responsibility of school administration lies in recognizing current trends in education. One or the current major trends in education today is that or discovering, planning and providing for the gifted child. More than ever, men and women with ability are needed in positions of influence in all fields of human relations and technical know- ledge. The Extent Of Dropouts In Public Schools In Richmond And Metropolitan Area, Donald Barham Beaman
The Extent Of Dropouts In Public Schools In Richmond And Metropolitan Area, Donald Barham Beaman
Master's Theses
About the middle or the nineteenth century the graded school emerged, which resulted in a great number of failures, which, in turn caused an overloading of lower grades and many dropouts in the upper grades.l Although dropouts in large numbers began at about this time it has been only in recent years that they have been classified as a problem. The problem rises largely from the concept that everyone should be in school until eighteen, or until he completes high school. Statistics dealing with the trends of all youth show that eighty per cent enter the ninth grade and only …
A Survey Of Supervisory Practices In Virginia Elementary Schools, John William Jordan
A Survey Of Supervisory Practices In Virginia Elementary Schools, John William Jordan
Master's Theses
The elementary principal today sees increasing emphasis placed upon supervision as a means of improving the instructional program for children. Just as business has recognized that supervision is a wise investment and a. necessity, so has education come to realize the value of proper supervision by a capable principal. "It any person in a supervisory position is not contributing to more effective learning the classroom, his existence in that posit ion cannot be justified." If it is true that, "the most effective way of supervising has not yet been determined" then it appears that find ing more effective supervisory practices …
Plant Capacity Costs, Genevieve D. Armstrong
Plant Capacity Costs, Genevieve D. Armstrong
Master's Theses
Plant facilities represent an investment that leads to continuing cost for taxes, interest, depreciation and maintenance. These costs are, for the most part, fixed. Consequently, the higher the volume of production attained with given facilities, the lower is the cost per unit of such overhead; conversely, as production falls off there are fewer units over which to spread overhead and unit costs rise. Thus idle capacity may result in "unabsorbed" overhead. Idle capacity may result from managerial inefficiency; therefore, executives should watch the extent to which capacity is utilized. The knowledge of idle capacity may enable corrective steps to be …
Conversion Of Disbursing To Tabulating Operation, Cecil A. Brown
Conversion Of Disbursing To Tabulating Operation, Cecil A. Brown
Master's Theses
The purpose of this paper is to present to the reader the actual problems encountered, and their solutions, in converting a large check-writing operation to an "automatic" tabulating machine process. It should be noted that this paper covers a change of procedure in a Disbursing Department, other than the introduction of tabulating equipment, resulting in "automatic" machine check writing. To do this, the function of the Disbursing Department is briefly summarized and the original system of operation prior to 1 November 1955 is described. The development of a new system of paying Accounts Payables is then explained along with the …

A Reconstruction Of The Utopia Of William Morris From His Later Prose Romances, Edagr Fitz Randolph Erdman
Master's Theses
In her book, William Morris, Medievalist Revolutionary, Margaret R. Grennan says, "What the invention of the telescope did for space in the seventeenth century, the sense of the past accomplished for time in the nineteenth." In- other words, this "sense of the past, " though not a mechanical instrument like the telescope, nor aimed at discoveries within the realm of physical science, nevertheless served such men as Carlyle, Ruskin, Arnold, and Newman in much the same fashion as the telescope had served Galileo and Kepler some two hundred years earlier. If not renowned natural scientists, Carlyle, Ruskin, Arnold, and …

The twentieth century has been witness to a phenomenal rate of growth in accounting. For every accountant employed in the construction of a statement, there are scores of people interested in the analysis and use of such statements, particularly the balance sheet and income statements. These persons include creditors, bankers, investors, executives and …
