A Study Of The Effects Of Some Chemical And Physical Factors On Plankton In An Artificial Lake, Archie Garnett Smither Aug 1948

A Study Of The Effects Of Some Chemical And Physical Factors On Plankton In An Artificial Lake, Archie Garnett Smither

Master's Theses

It has been well established that chemical and physical factors exert a marked effect upon the plankton population in bodies of water. However, the literature reveals the fact that the same chemical and physical factors not only produce a different effect upon plankton in different bodies of water, but are not consistent in their effects upon plankton in like bodies of water. These lakes were also of the same age, yet all were individual as to the amount …

Youth Work In A Rural Church, Verna Gertrude Palmer Jan 1948

Youth Work In A Rural Church, Verna Gertrude Palmer

Master's Theses

Youth work has been an important part of the activity of churches. Most of the studies about it and most of the programs for young people, however, seem to concern town and city churches more than rural churches.

It is my purpose in this paper to present a study of the work that is being done with and for young people in rural churches in Virginia. First a survey will be made of conditions which contribute to the problems of youth work in rural churches in general. Then the youth activities and problems of churches in Virginia will be considered. …

A Logical Development Of The Real Number System, Carolyn M. Kelley Jul 1947

A Logical Development Of The Real Number System, Carolyn M. Kelley

Master's Theses

Man and a few of the lower animals possess what may be called Number Sense. This is the power to recognize a change in number in a small collection without actually counting the collection.

The cardinal number is based on this principle of correspondence. We now no longer look for model collections; we set one collection into one-to-one correspondence with the natural numbers; in other words, we count it.
