A Comparison Of The Blood Oxygen Capacity In Semi-Terrestrial And Aquatic Frogs, Francis Burke Leftwich
Master's Theses
The present investigation is a comparison of the blood oxygen capacity in three species of frogs: a semi-terrestrial form R. pippins, the meadow frog; and two aquatic forms, R. clamitans, the green frog; and R. catesbeiana, the bullfrog. The habitats or these frogs are described by Wright and Wright (1949) as follows: R. pipiens inhabits swampy marsh lands, upland backwaters, overflows, and ponds in the spring. In summer it is found in swamp lands, grassy woodlands, or in cultivated hay and grain fields. In winter it hibernates in pools or marshes. It has been found as far as …

A Comparison Of The Blood Oxygen Capacity In Painted Turtles (Chrysemys Picta Schneider) And Box Turtles (Terrapene Carolina Linne), Harold J. Payne
Master's Theses
Among factors necessary for an animal to maintain life is the presence of an oxygen carrier that will transport a sufficient quantity of oxygen necessary for respiratory metabolism. In animals whose blood contains hemoglobin, which is a pigment that loads and unloads oxygen, this carrying capacity is referred to as blood oxygen capacity. It is a measure of the amount of oxygen that will combine with whole blood when completely mixed with air. It is usually expressed in volumes per cent (ml. 02/100 ml. blood) and corrected to standard temperature and pressure.
A search of available literature revealed that there …
Plant Capacity Costs, Genevieve D. Armstrong
Plant Capacity Costs, Genevieve D. Armstrong
Master's Theses
Plant facilities represent an investment that leads to continuing cost for taxes, interest, depreciation and maintenance. These costs are, for the most part, fixed. Consequently, the higher the volume of production attained with given facilities, the lower is the cost per unit of such overhead; conversely, as production falls off there are fewer units over which to spread overhead and unit costs rise. Thus idle capacity may result in "unabsorbed" overhead. Idle capacity may result from managerial inefficiency; therefore, executives should watch the extent to which capacity is utilized. The knowledge of idle capacity may enable corrective steps to be …

Performance Budgeting : Report And Evaluation Of Its Use In Municipal Administration, William Robert Harton
Master's Theses
The Commission on Organization of the Executive Branch of the Government, better known as the Hoover Commission, in its Report on Budgeting and Accounting to the Congress of the United States in February, 1949, reported that the Federal Budget was poorly organized and improperly designed to serve its major purpose which was to present an understandable as well as a workable financial plan for the expenditures of government. The report further indicated that some or the fiscal procedures and concepts of the federal government came down from the. time of Alexander Hamilton resulting in an accounting system which was outmoded …
