Faculty Perceptions Of The Value Of Academic Libraries: A Mixed Method Study, Kelly L. Heider, Sandra Janicki, Joann Janosko, Blaine Knupp, Carl Rahkonen

This article details the findings of a year-long study at Indiana University of Pennsylvania (IUP) Libraries which examined IUP faculty members’ perceptions of the value of library resources and services to both their research and teaching. Through a mixed-method study, which included an online survey and follow-up focus groups, the researchers found that faculty were dissatisfied with IUP Libraries’ marketing initiatives but satisfied with its small embedded librarian program. As a result, marketing and growth of the embedded librarian program became the two main focus areas for improvement in the next academic year.

The purpose of this study was to determine the user's priority expectations and their perceptions of quality services of university libraries. Survey method was used to assess user's perceptions and expectations. A revised version of SERVQUAL was used to determine user's perceived and expected service levels along seven point Likert scale. The study examined the influence computer skills and locus of control on the utilization of Internet resources by undergraduate students in Nigerian universities. Data were collected through the use of questionnaire. A study sample of 201 students randomly selected from a federal, a state and a private university in Osun State were used for the study. The resulting data were analysed using percentages, tables, Pearson Correlation and t-test analysis at 0.05 level of significance.
