Nickel-rich ternary materials with large reversible capacity as well as high operating voltage are considered as the most promising candidate for next generation lithium-ion batteries (LIBs). However, the inferior cycle stability and thermal stability have limited their widely commercial applications. Concentration gradient design of Ni-Co-Mn/Al ternary concentration gradient materials have been extensively studied in the past decade, which can ensure high cycle capacity while maintaining excellent cycle stability. In this paper, the latest research progresses in Ni-Co-Mn/Al ternary concentration gradient materials for LIBs are reviewed. Firstly, we summarize the different synthesis methods of ternary concentration-gradient materials, especially focusing on the …

The development of highly efficient oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) catalysts is the key to the commercialization of fuel cells, where the sluggish ORR reaction rate needs to be overcome by adjusting the intermediates adsorption energies on the catalytic surfaces. To-date, platinum (Pt)-based materials are the-state-of-the-art catalysts in terms of both activity and stability in ORR, making them the preferred choice for commercial applications. However, the high cost of Pt-based catalysts limits their widespread use, leading to massive effects paid in reducing Pt loading, improving catalyst activity and stability. This article illustrates the challenges in the ORR reaction and introduces the …

The Ni-Fe/Ti oxygen evolution electrode was prepared by electrodeposition on a titanium mesh substrate. Then, the as prepared Ni-Fe/Ti electrode was used to derive the Ni-Fe-S/Ti hydrogen evolution electrode through solid phase sulfuration. The effects of the molar ratio of Ni2+ to Fe3+ in the electrolyte and the amount of thiourea on the structures and electrochemical performances of Ni-Fe/Ti and Ni-Fe-S/Ti electrodes were investigated. The results show that the oxygen evolution performance of Ni-Fe/Ti electrode was first increased and then decreased with the increase of nickel ion content in the electrolyte. The Ni9Fe1/Ti electrode exhibited the best oxygen …

Atomic Force Microscopic Characterization Of Solid Electrolyte Interphase In Lithium Ion Batteries, Qing-Yu Dong, Yan-Li Chu, Yan-Bin Shen, Li-Wei Chen
Journal of Electrochemistry
In recent years, the rapid growing in the electric vehicle market has raised higher requirement on the lithium-ion batteries (LIBs) performance towards energy density and safety. However, considering the successful development of LIBs techniques in the past 30 years, there is little room left for improving the LIBs performance on the aspects related to the electrode materials, battery structure design and production processes. It is important to pursue more comprehensive fundamental understanding in the entire system and working principle of LIBs. Solid electrolyte interphase (SEI), existing between the electrode material and the electrolyte, has been proved to be an important …

Proton exchange membrane (PEM) is one of the key components in PEM fuel cells, which possesses the function of separating the cathode and anode, affording proton transport channels and preventing fuel permeability. The property of PEM significantly influences the performance and service life of fuel cells. Nowadays, the commercially used Nafion membranes have the shortcomings of serious fuel permeability, low proton conductivity at elevated temperature and high price, which limits the rapid development of PEM fuel cells. Therefore, it seems to be urgent to develop novel PEMs with low cost and good comprehensive properties. Polymeric proton exchange membrane is an …

Journal of Electrochemistry
The LaNiO3/TiO2 nanotube arrays were prepared by pulse electrodeposition combined with high temperature annealing. The LaNiO3 nanoparticles modified on the TiO2 nanotube arrays had small particle size (< 10 nm), uniform distribution and controllable loading. Some LaNiO3 nanoparticles were deposited inside the TiO2 nanotubes. The UV-visible absorption spectra displayed that the absorption band edge of LaNiO3/TiO2 nanotube arrays was obviously red-shifted as compared with that of TiO2 nanotube arrays, and the visible light absorption was enhanced significantly. The photocatalytic degradation results of rhodamine B (RhB) under visible light showed that the LaNiO3/TiO2 nanotube arrays prepared …

Electrochemical Behaviors Of Azopurine On Gold Electrodes, Ming-Xue Li, Hang Shi, Jia Liu, Meng Zhang, Jian-Zhang Zhou, De-Yin Wu, Zhong-Qun Tian
Journal of Electrochemistry
In this paper, we studied the electrochemical behaviors of azopurine on polished gold electrodes with cyclic voltammetry (CV). On the basis of analyzing scan rate and peak current, it was supposed that the redox process belonged to a reversible process controlled by adsorption in 0.2 mol·L-1 PBS (pH = 4.0 ~ 10.0) solutions. The potentials of redox peaks moved more negatively with increasing pH value. This proved that the H+ proton has participcted in the electrochemical reaction. The further data analysis and the calculation of surface adsorption excess demonstrated that the reaction was a two-proton and two-electron process. …

Then polyaniline layer was coated again on the surface of sulfur layer through the reaction of aniline with (NH4)2S2O8. After being dried at 60 oC for 12 h, the ADD in such a composite evaporated totally, and resulted in the formation of polyaniline-coated hollow sulfur …

Journal of Electrochemistry
P-nitrothiophenol (PNTP) is one of the most common probe molecules studied by surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS). The research in electrochemical reduction behavior of PNTP will help understanding the mechanism for the nitrobenzene reduction. In this paper, we used transient electrochemical surface-enhanced Raman spectroscopy (TEC-SERS) to study the SERS of PNTP with cyclic voltammetry and chronoamperometry on gold electrodes. The results show that the TEC-SERS provide a time resolution that equals the transient electrochemical methods, and we concluded that the reaction was so quick that we did not observe the spectral information of intermediate species described in the literatures with a …

The nanoparticles had a core-shell structure, with magnetic Fe3O4 NPs as the core and Hb imprinted polymers as the shell. Therefore, Hb could be concentrated and fixed on the surface of the magnetic imprinted nanoparticles (MMIPs NPs). Furthermore, MMIPs NPs were immobilized with chitosan (CS) on the surface of a magnetic electrode to constitute Hb enzyme-like biosensor …

By means of differential pulse stripping voltammetry, the concentration of Zn2+ can be determined using an in-situ formed bismuth film electrode, which allows determining indirectly the amount of levofloxacine hydrochloride. The linearity equation, I = 1.1401c - 0.5309 with the correlative coefficient R = 0.9979, was presented in the experiment. The results showed that this approach is very sensitive, having a limitation of detection of 3.18 …

The modified platinum nanoparticles not only enhanced the electron transformation of catalysts, but also increased the active sites for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). Pt-WO3/NF revealed a better catalytic activity than WO3/NFs with a smaller Tafel slope (80 mV·dec-1) and a lower overpotential of 72 mV at the current density of 10 mA·cm-2. In addition, Pt-WO3/NF showed great durability and stability during …
