The opioid and SUD epidemic drives a need to dramatically increase treatment opportunities, yet there is a dearth of practitioners who feel comfortable and competent in this area. And there are not enough specialists. To address this, we have developed an elective, online, asynchronous course for Nursing, Medicine, Pharmacy, Social Work, and Public Health housed within a DNP program at UW School of Nursing. Course content includes concepts of trauma-informed practice (and education), stigma, etc., and are woven throughout the course. Use of telehealth simulation scenarios served to prepare students for therapeutic patient interactions and to practice skills of motivational …

Breaking Down Barriers To Becoming A Nurse, Shelby Britt Hall
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
It is estimated that between 2021-2031 there will be 194,500 openings for registered nurses (RNs) in the United States annually. The American Nurses’ Association calls for “real solutions” to this nursing shortage crisis by addressing barriers that prohibit students from earning nursing degrees. Barriers for students include personal financial status, exorbitant tuition, an unobliging work schedule, lack of emotional support, access to nursing programs and insufficient study time. Factors that support the obtainment of a nursing degree include employer support such as a flexible work schedule, tuition reimbursement or tuition funding.
A nursing professional development (NPD) position specializing in nursing …

Stress and anxiety are prevalent among nursing students, who encounter numerous academic, social, and personal pressures throughout their education (Franco et al., 2022; Oneiva-Zafra et al., 2020). Factors such as life events, financial issues, domestic conflicts, food insecurity, and preexisting mental health conditions amplify stress levels, impacting academic performance and overall well-being (Karaca et al., 2019; Moran et al., 2023). Studies have shown that supportive faculty behaviors correlate with reduced levels of depression, anxiety, and stress among undergraduate nursing students (Stubin et al., 2024). Responding to these needs, the School of Nursing recognized the importance of proactive support and initiated …

Predictors For Different Levels Of Covid-19 Vaccination Among Immigrant And Non-Immigrant Adults, Cheryl Zlotnick, Orit Cohen Castel
International Nursing Research Congress (INRC)
Overview: This study contributes to the literature by examining a comprehensive operationalization of vaccination status among working-age (21-49 years), immigrant and non-immigrant adults.
Background: The commonly used outcome, obtained any vaccination versus not, tends to overestimate COVID-19 vaccination utilization, distorting the associations found with covariates/predictors. More recent studies have used a three-variable COVID-19 status outcome of any, partial or complete vaccinations. However, they lacked a theoretical framework and focused on older and non-immigrant populations. This study examined working-age immigrants and non-immigrants, used the three-variable operationalization of COVID-19 vaccination, and was guided by Andersen’s Behavioral Model with its three factors …
