Cannabidiol (CBD) is a non-psychoactive cannabinoid from the plant, Cannabis sativa. CBD’s structure degrades over time and other minor cannabinoids are formed when in contact with organic solvents. This is a growing area of interest due to the Agriculture Improvement Act (The Farm Bill) in 2018, which led to growing marijuana consumption and increased CBD markets. Monitoring the concentration of CBD can be used by forensic investigators and researchers to determine how CBD interacts with solvents, like ionic liquids. The building for the University of Mississippi civil engineering senior design class was designed and analyzed. The building is in Oxford Mississippi. The current address according to the Lafayette Parcel is 825 Sisk Avenue Suite 200. The floor plan, column, and beam design were performed based on engineering judgment and industry standards. The dead, live, snow, rain, and roof live loads were calculated to be 13.3, 50, 20, 27.51, and 20 psf respectively. An important question in discrete topology and geometry is how to recover the structure and characteristics of a manifold when only given a finite set of points sampled from that manifold. Thus, if mathematicians have a point cloud of data which induces a discrete metric space, they look for some structure to these points. Understanding the structure of these points often gives needed insight to solve this problem. Amphibians are ectotherms meaning they are dependent on environmental temperature for the maintenance of physiological processes, and they rely on behavioral thermoregulation to maintain body temperatures within their thermal limits. Comparative genomics data suggest that vertebrates are descendants of ancestral polyploids and that historical polyploidization events fueled evolutionary innovations. For example, polyploidization can modify gene expression patterns and/or increase gene mutation rates to alter the phenotype. While considerable emphasis has been placed on the evolutionary impact of ancient polyploidization events, less is known regarding phenotypic modifications in extant polyploids. Mississippi’s evaluation tool for principals is called the Administrator Growth Rubric. This research surveyed 194 public school principals across Mississippi to determine their thoughts on the Administrator Growth Rubric and how it might be improved. Coastal environments of the Gulf of Mexico host diverse and dynamic microbial communities essential for biogeochemical cycling, yet the fine-scale environmental drivers of microbial function and community structure in these systems remain underexplored. This study investigated the relationships between sand moisture content, microbial extracellular enzyme activity, and bacterial community composition along beach transects on Biloxi East Beach, Mississippi. Sand was sampled at five points along four transects spanning a gradient from submerged intertidal zones to dry upper beach sands. Mississippi ranks among the worst states in the United States for cardiovascular health, with high rates of heart disease, obesity, and hypertension. This thesis examines how race and gender influence heart health literacy and behavioral practices among University of Mississippi students. Utilizing a mixed-methods approach, this study combines quantitative survey data from a stratified random sample of 1,000 students with qualitative interviews from a public health professional specializing in cardiovascular health and a student heavily involved with on-campus heart health programs. The present thesis aims to determine the effects, if any, of six potential moderators on the effects of acute moderate-intensity exercise on cognitive functioning. The modes of exercise undertaken by the participants included treadmill (Experiment 1) and stationary bike (Experiment 2) exercise. Participants in each experiment either exercised or rested for twenty minutes and then participated in either a memory recall task or cognitive functioning (“Stroop”) task. Mammalian Unc13 (Munc13) and Drosophila Unc13 (Dunc13) are presynaptic active zone proteins essential for synaptic vesicle docking and priming in a neuron. Alcohol binds to the C1 domain of Munc13, which inhibits DAG binding. The reduction in DAG binding by Munc13 decreases the probability of vesicle fusion with the membrane, decreasing neurotransmitter release. Heterozygotes for a Dunc13 loss-of-function allele are behaviorally resistant to alcohol, physiologically resistant to alcohol, molecularly resistant to alcohol, and self-administer significantly more alcohol than control flies. Therefore, genetically reducing Dunc13 mimics a state of alcohol tolerance in the fly. The two main Dunc13 isoforms, Dunc13A and …
