Employment Discrimination Law, Cynthia Mertens Jan 1977

Employment Discrimination Law, Cynthia Mertens

Faculty Publications

Employment Discrimination Law must be on the desk of every practitioner in this field and in all law libraries. The volume is also an excellent teaching tool. There is no question that the authors' two primary objectives have been met; the book is of "significant and equal value to practitioner and student and of substantial value to the sophisticated non-lawyer," and is "balanced and non-partisan.

A Reconsideration Of The Stock Market Exception To The Dissenting Shareholder's Right Of Appraisal, Robert H. Jerry Ii Apr 1976

A Reconsideration Of The Stock Market Exception To The Dissenting Shareholder's Right Of Appraisal, Robert H. Jerry Ii

Faculty Publications

Legislation has attempted to balance fairly the interests of the dissenting shareholder against the corporation's need to reorganize in response to changing economic conditions. The bull market that lasted through 1972 persuaded many drafters of corporate statutes that a dissenting shareholder's interests were adequately protected if he could sell his shares on the market. Accordingly, they promulgated the stock market exception to limit the situations in which the appraisal remedy might inhibit needed corporate flexibility. Low stock prices during 1973 and 19741 have generated a need to reassess this balancing of interests and to reconsider the desirability of the stock …

There's Nothing New Under The Sun, Geraldine E. Larocque Jan 1976

There's Nothing New Under The Sun, Geraldine E. Larocque

Faculty Publications

The attempt to unite theory and practice in the education of English teachers has taken many forms: courses in which theoreticians attempt to illuminate the practice of professional teachers or student teachers; situations in which teacher-education faculty cooperate with teachers; student teachers; and the community; in order to make programs more responsive to community needs; and instruction in which school-based apprenticeship is stressed. Until research can provide a firm base for the structure and content of methods courses; professionals must rely on their own judgment as to the placement of emphasis. An adaptation of Lee J. Cronbach's research paradigm; used …

This study briefly reviews past studies; explores a new set of data to determine its usefulness in determining characteristics of the teacher-identified …

A Contextual Approach To Investigating Verbal And Nonverbal Behaviors, Douglas M. Brooks, Barry Wilson

Faculty Publications

Instruments of demonstrated reliability were employed to record simultaneous verbal and nonverbal data within the selected contextual framework of student-initiated questions. Data was collected at the University of Northern Iowa; Malcolm Price Laboratory School. The study sample included 15 teachers from grades one through twelve and 60 pupils. Pupils were placed in categories by their teachers: (1) accepting; (2) concerned; (3) indifferent; and (4) rejecting. Behavioral Parameters Of Drug Action: Signalled And Response‐Independent Reinforcement, Donald M. Thompson, Peter B. Corr Jan 1974

Behavioral Parameters Of Drug Action: Signalled And Response‐Independent Reinforcement, Donald M. Thompson, Peter B. Corr

Faculty Publications

Four pigeons were initially trained under a multiple variable‐interval 1‐min variable‐interval 1‐min schedule of food reinforcement. For two of the pigeons, a signal was then presented whenever the reinforcer was available in one component; this resulted in positive contrast. For the other two pigeons, the reinforcer was presented independently of responding on a variable‐time schedule in one component; this resulted in negative induction. After 30 to 50 sessions, however, a similar degree of differential responding occurred under both multiple schedules, i.e., high rates in the variable‐interval component and low rates in the other component. Reinforcement frequency remained about the same …

The Planner’S Image: The Impact Of Expertise On Development Planning And Policymaking (Phd Dissertation), Melvin J. Dubnick Jan 1974

The Planner’S Image: The Impact Of Expertise On Development Planning And Policymaking (Phd Dissertation), Melvin J. Dubnick

Faculty Publications

The purpose of this work is to develop a concept useful for analyzing the impact of a planner’s perception on Third World development planning successes. Borrowing extensively from Kenneth Boulding’s work, the Image concept is developed and used as a basis for the analysis.

In Chapter I, the failure of Third World development planning is discussed, along with some of the causes attributed to it. One such cause is found in the perceptions and orientations of the planning expert. That this causal factor has not been frequently and systematically investigated probably results from the lack of a sufficient framework for …
