Repeated Acquisition Of Response Sequences: Stimulus Control And Drugs, Donald M. Thompson Jan 1975

Repeated Acquisition Of Response Sequences: Stimulus Control And Drugs, Donald M. Thompson

Faculty Publications

Pigeons obtained food by making four responses on three keys in a specified sequence, e.g., left, right, center, right. Under the “tandem‐learning” condition, all three keys were the same color throughout the response sequence, and the sequence was changed from session to session. After total errors per session (overall accuracy) and within‐session error reduction (learning) had stabilized, the effects of varying doses of phenobarbital and chlordiazepoxide were assessed. For comparison, the drug tests were also conducted under a “performance” condition, in which the response sequence was the same from session to session, and under corresponding “chain‐learning” and “chain‐performance” conditions, where …

Let Pt (x, ·) denote the Wiener measure in an abstract Wiener space (H, B) with variance parameter t > 0 and mean x in B. It is shown that if [FORMULA PRESENTED]; 0 and x are fixed, then the function ptf defined by [FORMULA PRESENTED] for h in H is infinitely Gross differentiable at x. The first two derivatives are given by [FORMULA PRESENTED], where h and k are in H. Moreover, [FORMULA PRESENTED] is a Hilbert-Schmidt operator and [FORMULA PRESENTED]. An application to Uhlenbeck- Ornstein process is also given. © 1975 Pacific Journal of Mathematics.

The Impact Of Suburbanization On Fluvial Geomorphology, William L. Graf Jan 1975

The Impact Of Suburbanization On Fluvial Geomorphology, William L. Graf

Faculty Publications

Analysis of aerial photography for the period 1950–1971 and field data collected from 1970 to 1974 indicate that in the Denver area suburban development has caused significant changes in fluvial systems. By first introducing large quantities of sediment and later by increasing surface runoff, suburban development leads to an expansion of floodplains followed by downcutting of streams. As areas of suburban development increase, greater percentages of stream lengths are dominated by transportation, and lesser percentages are dominated by erosion and deposition.

The New Due Process: Rights And Remedies, Doug R. Rendleman Jan 1975

The New Due Process: Rights And Remedies, Doug R. Rendleman

Faculty Publications

This article discusses the "new" due process. Perhaps new is a misnomer. Due process was not discovered recently. It has been around a long time protecting varying interests from arbitrary action. The discovery called the "new" due process is merely that procedural protections are not so limited as previously thought. This article will examine the interests encompassed by the new due process and the remedial apparatus now being developed to protect those interests.

Some Early And Current Studies Of Rural Churches., William H. Drier Jan 1975

Some Early And Current Studies Of Rural Churches., William H. Drier

Faculty Publications

The paper reviews about 25 major studies printed since 1920; and in turn; these refer to some 75 other studies about rural churches; their location; numbers; ministers; denominational arrangements; and supporting population per church on a county level. On the role of rural social science in Theological education; one study reports that the pastor is not only a man of God but a man of knowledge; not only in theological but in all fields of study. On the basis of these studies covering 50 years; the author states that while rural is by definition non-metropolitan; people everywhere since the 1960's …

Electrochemical Reduction Of Molybdate In The Presence Of Zinc Chloride In Molten Lithium Chloride-Potassium Chloride Eutectic, R. Cvetkovic, Branko N. Popov, H. A. Laitinen

Faculty Publications

Two chronopotentiometric waves were observed for the electrochemical reduction of molybdate in the presence of zinc chloride, with quarter-wave potentials of –1.5V and –1.75V vs. the Pt(II)/Pt reference electrode, respectively. It was observed that an increase in the molybdate concentration causes a decrease of the first transition time indicating a chemical reaction between ZnCl2 (which is reduced at –1.5V) and Li2MoO4 in the melt forming ZnMoO4 which is sparingly dissociated in LiCl-KCl eutectic. The equilibrium constant for the observed reaction was calculated. X-ray powder diffraction patterns of the reduction product of ZnMoO4 have been …

A Contextual Approach To Investigating Verbal And Nonverbal Behaviors, Douglas M. Brooks, Barry Wilson

Faculty Publications

This investigation utilized a recent concept developed by researchers and theoreticians studying nonverbal behavior--the contextual framework. Instruments of demonstrated reliability were employed to record simultaneous verbal and nonverbal data within the selected contextual framework of student-initiated questions. Data was collected at the University of Northern Iowa; Malcolm Price Laboratory School. The study sample included 15 teachers from grades one through twelve and 60 pupils. Pupils were placed in categories by their teachers: (1) accepting; (2) concerned; (3) indifferent; and (4) rejecting. Objectives of the investigation included: (1) to investigate physical proximity as a quantifiable dimension of nonverbal behavior; (2) to …

Constitutional Allocation Of The War Powers Between The President And Congress: 1787-88, W. Taylor Reveley Iii

Faculty Publications

For some time the international community has been keenly interested in the foreign uses to which America puts its military. The nature of these uses has traditionally been affected by the manner in which the Constitution divides the war powers between the President and Congress. This allocation of war-peace authority, in tum, is the product of a number of influences, among them the intentions of the Framers and Ratifiers for the text which they drafted and approved. Their war-power debates, as we shall see, have heavy international overtones. These debates have not been neglected, especially during America's recent involvement in Indochina. …

Constructive Cash Distributions In A Partnership: How And When They Occur, Robert S. Parker Jr., John W. Lee

Faculty Publications

Constructive cash distributions to partners with possible concomitant severe tax impact can occur whenever a partners share of firm or individual liabilities is cut. This reduction of liabilities can be triggered by a variety of typical partnership transactions. Messrs. Parker arid Lee analyze those transactions under which there is the danger of unforeseen taxation and urge extreme caution.

Behavioral Parameters Of Drug Action: Signalled And Response‐Independent Reinforcement, Donald M. Thompson, Peter B. Corr Jan 1974

Behavioral Parameters Of Drug Action: Signalled And Response‐Independent Reinforcement, Donald M. Thompson, Peter B. Corr

Faculty Publications

Four pigeons were initially trained under a multiple variable‐interval 1‐min variable‐interval 1‐min schedule of food reinforcement. For two of the pigeons, a signal was then presented whenever the reinforcer was available in one component; this resulted in positive contrast. For the other two pigeons, the reinforcer was presented independently of responding on a variable‐time schedule in one component; this resulted in negative induction. After 30 to 50 sessions, however, a similar degree of differential responding occurred under both multiple schedules, i.e., high rates in the variable‐interval component and low rates in the other component. Reinforcement frequency remained about the same …

Genotype-Climatic And Other Interaction Effects For Productive Responses In Holsteins, C. Branton, G. Rios, D. L. Evans, B. R. Farthing, K. L. Koonce

Faculty Publications

Season of calving had important effects on the shape of the lactation curve, affecting peak milk yield, persistency, and lactation lengths in a Louisiana Holstein herd. Feeding regime and age at calving also had marked effects. Plane of nutrition appeared to have more important effects on components of the lactation curve than did season of calving. Most interaction effects were small. Lactation milk yield for Holstein cows in five Louisiana herds calving in the hot season of the year was consistently from 200 to 300 kg (5 to 8%) less than that for cows calving during cool and mild seasons. …
