Background/Objectives: Temporomandibular disorder (TMD) affects a third of the adult population and has been associated with otologic symptoms. These symptoms are frequently misattributed to primary otologic diseases, leading to delays in diagnosis and treatment. This review aims to summarize the reported prevalence, proposed pathophysiologic mechanisms, and management strategies of otologic manifestations in patients with TMD.
Methods: A literature review was conducted using the MeSH terms "temporomandibular joint disease" and "otologic symptoms." Introduction: Poststroke depression (PSD) affects approximately 33% of stroke survivors and is associated with worse outcomes, poor quality of life (QOL) and mortality. Despite its prevalence and consequences, there is no consensus on the most effective strategy for PSD prevention. Behavioural activation (BA) is an effective intervention for depression across diverse populations and is considered safer, better tolerated and a longer-lasting alternative to antidepressant medications. This study aims to test the effectiveness of a remotely delivered BA intervention to prevent PSD (Tele-BA-S).

The epiphyseal growth plate is the key target of growth hormone (GH) therapy. Although growth plate stem cells are well defined in mice, their presence in humans was unclear. Using rare surgical specimens, the study by Chu et al. reveals conserved, GH-responsive stem cells in the human pubertal growth plate.

Introduction: The use of artificial intelligence (AI) in the scientific process is advancing at a remarkable speed, thanks to continued innovations in large language models. While AI provides widespread benefits, including editing for fluency and clarity, it also has drawbacks, including fabricated content, perpetuation of bias, and lack of accountability. Deploying medical image segmentation models in routine clinical workflows is often constrained by on-premises infrastructure, where computational resources are fixed and cloud-based inference may be restricted by governance and security policies. While high-capacity models achieve strong segmentation accuracy, their computational demands hinder practical deployment and long-term maintainability in hospital environments. We present a deployment-oriented framework that leverages knowledge distillation to translate a high-performing segmentation model into a scalable family of compact student models without modifying the inference pipeline. The framework is primarily evaluated on nnU-Net, with additional validation across transformer and heterogeneous teacher–student architectures. Early institutional care (IC; orphanage) is a severe form of early psychosocial deprivation with documented long-term effects on social and caregiving functioning. Despite longstanding interest in oxytocin (OT) as a key neuroendocrine modulator of affiliative behavior and stress, OT dynamics and synchrony during mother-child interaction among mothers with IC history remain poorly understood. Pediatric cardiothoracic surgeries are high-stakes, complex procedures, typically undergoing prior review at multidisciplinary conferences. This study evaluates practice patterns of conferences throughout the United States (US). Surveys were distributed to fellowship program directors or division directors in 124 US pediatric cardiology centers seeking information on conference logistics, fellow roles, quality improvement (QI), and satisfaction. All 47 responding centers (response rate 38%) conduct presurgical conferences, mostly on a weekly basis (92%) lasting 60-120 min (79%). The conferences are solely virtual (19%) or hybrid (81%). High-volume centers (> 300 surgical cases/year) are more likely to hold multiple conferences (13/20 vs 7/27, p < 0.01) and less likely to designate a moderator (11/20 vs 22/26, p = 0.027). Categorical pediatric cardiology fellows at 33 centers present clinical data (97%), echocardiograms (85%), catheterizations (82%), and cross-sectional imaging (39%), typically beginning in their first year. Most centers report that minor (98%) or major changes (51%) are made to patient management at least "sometimes." Responders rate conferences as very important (median 10/10 on a 10-point Likert scale, IQR 9-10), but satisfaction is more modest (median 7/10, IQR 7-9). Only 17% of centers have a formal QI process. Comments from 42 centers reveal positive themes of collaboration (68%) but also concerns about lengthy (30%) or inefficient (36%) discussion. Conclusions: This survey highlights common practices for pediatric cardiothoracic presurgical conferences. Conferences are collaborative and seen as highly impactful. However, satisfaction varies, and QI efforts are infrequent. These findings highlight opportunities for process improvement and standardization.

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma of unknown primary (HNSCCUP) comprises 2%-5% of head and neck squamous cell cancers (HNSCC). Its coexistence with abdominal paraganglioma is exceedingly rare. We report a unique case of a 48-year-old male with HNSCCUP presenting as cervical lymphadenopathy and a coexisting abdominal paraganglioma. 18 F-FDG showed uptake in both lesions, while 68 Ga-DOTATATE was avid only in paraganglioma, and 68 Ga-DOTA-FAPI-04 was avid only in cervical nodes. Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remains one of the most lethal malignancies worldwide due to late diagnosis, dense stromal barriers, and resistance to existing chemotherapeutics. To address these limitations, we developed a targeted liposomal delivery system that encapsulates AGY2, a newly synthesized, more potent fluoro pyrimidine nucleoside analog. In this study, epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) functionalized liposomal nanoparticles (EGFR-AGY2 LNPs) were optimized using Box–Behnken Design to achieve superior physicochemical stability. The optimized formulation demonstrated nanoscale dimensions (∼121 nm), high entrapment efficiency (∼75%), and strong colloidal stability. Background: Bromine-76, a positron emitting radionuclide for positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, and bromine-77, an Auger electron (Ae) emitting radionuclide, make a unique halogen theranostic pair. These isotopes have previously been used to synthesize a rucaparib-derived, poly-ADP-ribose polymerase inhibitor ([76/77Br]RD1). As [77Br]bromide activity in [76/77Br]RD1 radiosyntheses increased, coincident with solid target hardware changes in our facility, radiopharmaceutical yield became less reproducible. This work describes the modifications to this hardware, distillation procedures, and [76/77Br]bromide solution chemistry to enable reproducible production of preclinical quantities of [76/77Br]RD1.

This study investigates whether long-term changes in neighborhood racial and ethnic diversity are associated with adult diabetes prevalence across the contiguous United States. We calculated diversity indexes for US census tracts (n = 72,033) using decennial census data from 1990 to 2020. Five diversity trajectory clusters were identified using K-means clustering. Diabetes prevalence in 2019 was obtained from the CDC's PLACES dataset. Linear mixed models (LMMs) assessed global associations between diversity trajectories and diabetes prevalence, adjusting for age, sex, poverty, marital status, and public insurance. Over half of dementia cases remain undiagnosed, with persistent disparities across racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic groups. Dementia care navigation (DCN) has demonstrated value in post-diagnosis settings. If implemented earlier, DCN could address diagnostic delays and care gaps. We define the diagnostic window as the period from initial symptom awareness through diagnosis and early care planning. Drawing on deliberations from the Alzheimer's Association Dementia Care Navigation Roundtable, we present a pre-diagnosis DCN framework organized across six domains and describe navigator roles across three phases: pre-evaluation, diagnostic assessment, and immediate post-diagnosis and transition. This is the protocol of a Campbell Systematic Review. The objectives are as follows: to identify implementation determinants from the perspectives of both participants and implementers, and to assess their influence on specific implementation outcomes, thereby clarifying why certain aspects of the implementation process succeed or fail. If sufficient data is available, variations in perceived barriers or facilitators related to individuals and program characteristics will also be explored.

Background: Peripheral arterial disease often affects the lower extremities, is frequently bilateral, and typically involves multiple leg segments. Symptomatic disease is usually treated endovascularly. Antegrade access may be necessary in some cases and can be challenging compared with retrograde common femoral artery access. The ability to convert a conventional retrograde access to antegrade access would thus be valuable. We developed and tested a novel system, named as antegrade-to-retrograde converter. Objectives: Sexual and gender minority (SGM) individuals can experience notable health disparities, including higher HIV prevalence, social isolation, substance abuse, lack of culturally competent providers, and poorer health outcomes compared to heterosexuals due to stigma and discrimination. This study aims to identify predictors of dental care utilization across sexual minorities using the 2023 TEXAS PRIDE Survey.
Methods: We analyzed data from 517 SGM individuals, assessing sociodemographic characteristics, health behaviors, and recent medical and dental visits. Multivariable logistic regression identified predictors of dental care utilization (i.e., a dental visit in the past year).

Artificial intelligence (AI) is increasingly applied to biomedical research, but most current systems remain limited to specific tasks, data types, or biological scales. This makes it difficult to connect molecular alterations, organelle dysfunction, cellular behavior, tissue remodeling, organ physiology, systemic regulation, and whole-body phenotypes into coherent biological reasoning. Objectives: The objective of this research was to examine the content and context-specific information diffusion patterns underlying communication pertaining to tobacco use from online health communities (OHCs).

Importance: Religiosity, trust in physicians, and trust in government health agencies influence individual decision-making and behavior toward public health programs. Context: Insulin resistance (IR) is more prevalent in men than in women, but evidence directly linking IR to fracture risk in older men remains limited.
Objective: To evaluate the association between insulin resistance (IR), estimated using the Homeostatic Model Assessment of Insulin Resistance (HOMA-IR) and the triglyceride-glucose (TyG) index, and fracture risk in older men.

Background: The aim of the present study was to examine whether age and sex affected the prevalence and severity of periodontal conditions in patients attending an academic dental clinic.
Methods: Electronic health record (EHR) data on the demographic characteristics and periodontal conditions of patients presented for a comprehensive periodontal evaluation were extracted from the institutional dental EHR database. Cells communicate through ligand-receptor (LR) signaling interactions, but identifying when and where these interactions are active remains challenging. We developed CytoSignal to infer the locations and dynamics of cell-cell communication at cellular resolution from spatial transcriptomic data. Here we show that our cellular resolution, spatially resolved signaling scores enable several important analyses-identifying spatial gradients in signaling strength, quantifying the locations of contact-dependent and diffusible interactions, detecting signaling-associated genes and identifying differential signaling across multisample data. Background: A systematic review was conducted following PRISMA guidelines to identify human studies investigating pharmacological interventions and reported sleep outcomes among individuals with CUD or MUD.
Methods: PubMed and APA PsycInfo were searched from inception to January 2025 and risk of bias was assessed. Articles were included if they included human participants with either cocaine or methamphetamine dependence, administered a pharmacological treatment, and reported night-time sleep as an outcome using at least one rigorous measurement tool. Objectives: Periprosthetic distal femur fractures have grown in volume because the rate of primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA) has increased. These injuries are increasingly treated with intramedullary nailing (IMN), but knee instability after retrograde IMN has not been well studied. A cadaveric study was performed to investigate TKA balance after retrograde femoral IMN. The main hypothesis was that retrograde femoral IMN preparation would lead to increased flexion space laxity.

Mutations in isocitrate dehydrogenase (IDH) genes, specifically IDH1 and IDH2, are frequently observed in diffuse gliomas (DG) and define distinct molecular subtypes, namely IDH-wildtype and IDH-mutant. Abnormal expression of extracellular vesicle-derived microRNAs (EV-miRNAs) in the cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) of DG patients may serve as minimally invasive diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers. To investigate this potential, we employed miRNA-sequencing (miRNA-seq), quantitative real-time PCR (qRT-PCR), and multivariable logistic regression (MLR) to identify differentially expressed microRNAs (DE-miRNAs) in CSF samples from DG patients. qRT-PCR analysis demonstrated that EV-miR-21-5p effectively differentiated CSF from glioblastoma (GBM) patients versus controls (p = 0.012, AUC = 0.84) and …

Deformable image registration plays an essential role in various medical image tasks. Existing deep learning-based deformable registration frameworks primarily utilize convolutional neural networks (CNNs) or Transformers to learn features to predict the deformations. However, the lack of semantic information in the learned features limits the registration performance. Furthermore, the similarity metric of the loss function is often evaluated only in the pixel space, which ignores the matching of high-level anatomical features and can lead to deformation folding. Background: Rural US populations bear a high burden of cardiovascular disease, with hypertension contributing to the rural-urban gap. We examined hypertension prevalence and control across the rural-urban continuum among patients in a large healthcare system in Northeast Texas.
Methods: We analyzed the electronic health record data from 363,539 patients with at least one outpatient encounter between September 2021 and April 2025. We defined hypertension using ICD-10-CM codes, antihypertensive prescriptions, or a blood pressure ≥ 130/80 mm Hg. We classified rurality using the Rural-Urban Commuting Area categories. Objective: This study aims to understand the characteristics of people who inject drugs approached by others for injection assistance.
Method: Peer-referral and outreach were used to recruit rural adults who recently injected drugs in Appalachian Kentucky (n=435). Interviewer-administered questionnaires elicited data on participant characteristics and injection assistance. Descriptive statistics and generalized estimating equations clustered on peer-referral recruitment chain were used for analysis.
Results: Nearly one-third (30.1%) reported others had come to them for injection assistance. People approached for assistance were slightly younger (prevalence ratio [PR]: 0.91, 95% confidence interval [CI]: 0.85-0.99) but otherwise, demographically similar to their counterparts. Those approached …
