As the airspace is experiencing an increasing number of aircraft, spectrum sharing among Air Vehicles (AVs) and Terrestrial Users (TUs) emerges as a compelling solution to improve spectrum utilization efficiency. I investigated three types of aeronautical communication including the single-hop Air-Air Communication Network (AACN), the multi-hop Air-Air Ad-hoc Network (AAAN), and the Aerial and Terrestrial Hybrid Network (ATHN). I assume a spectrum-limited scenario through all communication networks. Poorer health outcomes disproportionately impact racial/ethnically minoritized (e.g., Black Indigenous People of Color, or BIPOC) populations in the U.S. One plausible reason for the persistence of poorer health outcomes among this population is the teaching of racialized curricular content within academic health professions programs. This includes the absence of appropriate context through explicit socio-political curricular content (SPC) and critical pedagogy (i.e., social and structural determinants of health, history of racism in health care, social justice concepts; dialogue and reflective writing). Even though Asian Americans continue to demonstrate academic excellence and have the highest rates of completion in higher education, their psychological well-being and the factors impacting it are often overlooked due to the model minority myth (Poon et al., 2016; Mahalingham, 2013). Higher education research mainly focuses on academic outcomes (e.g., persistence and retention) and less so on psychological outcomes. Diet-induced obesity and adipose tissue (AT) inflammation that ensues sets the stage for systemic metabolic inflammation, disrupted insulin signaling, and eventual type 2 diabetes (T2D) development. At the center of this pathology lies a disruption in endogenous inflammation resolution pathways characterized by an imbalance in lipid mediator production (greater abundance of pro-inflammatory to pro-resolving lipids). Additionally, obese states are characterized by adrenergic deficiency, especially in response to physical activity. This thesis seeks to uncover emergency psychiatric healthcare disparities by examining data of emergency departments from the National Hospital Ambulatory Medical Care Surveys, years 2020 and 2021. The two outcome variables are the length of stay in the emergency department and the urgency with which a patient should be seen. There are multiple independent variables that are analyzed, including age, residence, sex, race/ethnicity, pay type, region, and metropolitan statistical area status. The results indicate that there are disparities, especially in terms of race/ethnicity, region, and metropolitan statistical area status for each dependent variable. Spinal cord injury (SCI) is a devastating, life changing event that greatly impacts quality of life. SCI can have body-wide, multi-system consequences including dysfunction within the urogenital system. Challenges with the urinary system include urinary incontinence, urine retention, and detrusor-sphincter dyssynergia all of which require maintenance through the regular use of catheters. Sexual dysfunction in men, who comprise nearly 80% of the SCI population, includes erectile dysfunction, anejaculation, retrograde ejaculation, poor expulsive force during ejaculation, and poor sperm quality. Background: Across Kentucky, county-level geographic disparities in colorectal cancer (CRC) incidence and outcomes exist. Given the heterogeneity of lifestyle, socioeconomic (SES), and environmental factors within a county, more granular approaches should be used to identify local areas with a high CRC burden and identify the area-level factors that may contribute to geographic disparities. Cerebral/cortical visual impairment (CVI) is a disorder most often caused by perinatal hypoxic injury to the developing brain. CVI is the leading cause of childhood visual impairment in developed nations, encompassing deficits in many aspects of vision including visual acuity, contrast sensitivity, and object recognition. This dissertation explores the application of novel molecular dynamics simulation methods to better understand complex systems, with a particular focus on silica materials and protein interactions. Silica materials, known for their versatile surface and solution chemistries, play critical roles in catalysis, chromatography, and wastewater treatment. Despite their widespread use, the molecular-level interactions between silica surfaces and their environments remain poorly understood. This thesis explores the complex interplay between historical narratives, ideological manipulation, and cultural artifacts in Heinrich Himmler’s efforts to reshape Germany’s history during the Nazi regime. The study shows how Himmler used historical revisionism to mythologize Germanic history to support Nazi ideology. Himmler used the Ahnenerbe, an SS organization, to research and propagate distorted narratives, fabricating artifacts to legitimize the Aryan myth and assert Germanic superiority. Influenced by movements like the Völkisch Movement, Himmler's ideology relied on pseudo-historical narratives to shape public perception and Nazi policies. Previously, eviction has been perceived as a legal problem rather than a social issue. Previous literature examines eviction as a social problem and the role of program administrators in policy implementation. Through a mixed-methods study of in-depth semi structured interviews and secondary descriptive analysis of eviction data, this study serves explores program administrators’ perspectives on housing policy and eviction practices and the impact these perspectives have on policy implementation and eviction prevention. OBJECTIVES: To investigate patient- and county-level disparities in COVID-19-related mechanical ventilation use and mortality by SDOH factors and comorbidities among Medicaid non-pregnant adult beneficiaries in Kentucky. Additionally, to compare the association of COVID-19-related infections and mortality with social mobility and weather between Indiana and Kentucky during the stay-at-home period (March 1 to May 15, 2020). We consider a reaction-diffusion equation that models a population in a shifting bounded habitat with a protection zone and the Allee effect. We assume that the population growth function exhibits the strong Allee effect and has a positive integral within the protection zone (indicating population persistence) and a negative integral in the surrounding patches (indicating population decay). We prove that the existence of steady-state solutions to this system depends on the length of the protection zone. An essential part of robotics research is human-robot collaboration, which enables the use of current and new robots in everyday life and the workforce. This research applies to both parts of human-robot collaboration: physical human-robot interaction (pHRI), as well as non-physical human-robot interaction. Classical public key cryptosystems that currently protect the digital world will no longer be secure in the post-quantum setting. Research of fatalism, the belief that events are predetermined, suggests that fatalistic beliefs influence, shape, and potentially determine health behavior and decision-making. The Theory of Self-Determination posits the importance of motivation and competence in health behavior outcomes. Coproduction, or the interaction of citizens with their public service provider, has been used in policy responses to a myriad of service delivery problems, especially policing. This dissertation uses a three-manuscript approach to revisit coproduction both as a theory and a practice. The first manuscript tracks the evolution of coproduction as a theory from three different disciplines: economics, urban theory, and public administration. In addressing the three disciplines, the manuscript explains what broadly united the coproduction literature and the differences that hindered the early development of the concept. Many chemotherapy drugs are developed from plants, and some plant extracts can exhibit significant anticancer activities while also having less toxic side effects. The Apiaceae plant family consists of several species that are used as culinarily spices which have demonstrated antioxidant, chemopreventive, and anticancer activities. Polymicrobial interactions are an important, yet understudied area of research. Candida albicans is the most common human fungal pathogen. The bacterial genus, Enterobacter, is a source of nosocomial acquired infections and increased drug resistance. Our lab has previously discovered that Enterobacter preferentially adheres to C. albicans hyphae. From an E. cloacae transposon library screen, six candidates displayed reduction in C. albicans attachment. These candidates were identified genetically and characterized for involvement in attachment to C. albicans. A fluorescent plasmid was introduced into E. cloacae to measure and observe adherence to C. albicans in planktonic and biofilm growth. In vivo …

The purpose of this study was to investigate the chronic effects of accentuated eccentric loading (AEL) paired with cluster sets (CS) on dynamic and maximal strength, the endocrine system, and body composition. Seventeen recreationally active subjects (male = 11, females = 6, age = 23.05 ± 4.07, height = 172.09 ± 9.98, body mass = 81.29 ± 22.18, back squat to body mass ratio = 1.55 ± 0.33, bench press to body mass ratio = 1.06 ± 0.28) participated in one familiarization week, 2 weeks of testing, and 4 weeks of training.
