The Velocity Of The Baseball Batting Swing As Affected By The Addition Of A Select Resistance Exercise Of A Traditional Pre-Season Weight Training Program, Harold George Wertich
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this investigation was to determine the effects of two types of resistance-training programs on the velocity of the baseball batting swing. A sub-problem of the study was to determine the effect on the velocity of the batting swing of using a weighted bat immediately prior to batting. The following procedure was employed: thirty freshman baseball candidates at the South Dakota State University were selected as subjects and were placed in two groups equated by the measure of the velocity of the baseball batting swing. The subjects in the two experimental groups (Traditional Weight Training Group and Resistance …

A Survey Of School Districts In Boyd County, Nebraska, 1965-1966, Robert Stuerman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Today, due to the ever-increasing educational requirements laid down by states and the increasing costs of education, many of the smaller districts have either been forced to close down or are lacking in one or more of the state requirements and are on the verge of losing their accreditation and ultimately their school. Dennis M. David made a survey of 135 citizens in five mid-western states and showed that only one-fourth of the people were aware that the purpose of reorganization of school districts is to provide better education. It has been shown through surveys of Nebraska County high school …
An Analysis Of The Production Output Difference Between An 11-Pica And A 15-Pica Line Width When Type Is Set By The Tts Method, Larry E. Rolufs
An Analysis Of The Production Output Difference Between An 11-Pica And A 15-Pica Line Width When Type Is Set By The Tts Method, Larry E. Rolufs
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since the early 1940’s there have been few experiments dealing directly with line width, and even fewer studies dealing with the effect of line width on productions output differences. However, there has been considerable speculation, and many hypotheses, about these differences. In a 1969 study, Leicht studied output differences on manually operated typesetting machines, using 11 picas and 15 picas.30 In the same year, Nuckols investigated comparative reading times using the same measures.31 These studies supported the hypotheses of the Louisville Courier-Journal that a 15-pica line width make for a more readable newspaper, and that type can be set manually …
Incomplete Neurological Development As A Root Of Reading Problems: A Classroom Teacher's Approach, Helen B. Prokes
Incomplete Neurological Development As A Root Of Reading Problems: A Classroom Teacher's Approach, Helen B. Prokes
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Incomplete neurological development as a root of reading problems is a concept that could revolutionize our system of education. It could guide us to treating the “disease” rather than the symptoms. It could save us much “beating of the air” in our use of methods. It could modify our demands that learning take place in developmental infancy. At least, that is the theory of Dr. Carl H. Delacato2 and his associates in their Developmental Reading Program at Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their motivation stems from the conviction that “reading problems need not exist at all because they can …

A Comparison Of The Anxiety Measures And Match Performance Evaluations Of High School Wrestlers, Richard Edward Newman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this investigation was to determine if an individual high school wrestler’s anxiety measures would serve as an indicator of his match performance. The subjects were thirty-one varsity wrestlers who were in attendance at Brookings High School, Brookings, South Dakota, during the academic year 1966-1967. The top twenty-four wrestlers, as determined by weekly competitive challenge matches, received alternate forms of the IPAT 8-Parallel-Form Anxiety Battery forty minutes prior to the “A” and “B” teams’ competitive performances in all home wrestling matches. These tests were administered in order to measure the anxiety levels of subjects in a stress situation. …
Planned Educational Progress In The Mitchell Public School System, Donald Jesse Mclean
Planned Educational Progress In The Mitchell Public School System, Donald Jesse Mclean
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There is but one major purpose for the existence of the public schools in the American society. That purpose is to provide the best possible education for the nation’s children. Several elements are required to make this successful program a reality within a given community. The school board and administration must provide for at least three important ingredients, the first being a system of well-designed school buildings. The second is the employment of well- prepared teachers and the third is a well-planned curriculum. To accomplish a successful program it is necessary to continually evaluate all three areas. In doing so …

Effects Of Continuous Running As Compared To Interval Running On Cardiorespiratory Efficiency Of Conditioned Freshman Wrestlers At South Dakota State University, Terry J. Linander
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this investigation was to determine whether a running program significantly influences the cardiorespiratory efficiency of conditioned wrestlers and to compare continuous running and interval running as methods of increasing the cardio-respiratory efficiency of conditioned wrestlers. Eighteen of the 19 members of the freshman wrestling squad at South Dakota State University, Spring Semester 1967, volunteered as subjects. The 18 subjects were divided into three equated groups, the results of a cardiorespiratory efficiency test being used as the equating factor. By employing the track pillbox method, the three equated groups were designated as the Interval Running Group (IR), and …

As a result of the first pilot study, certain changes were necessary for successful administration of the test. A second test was devised using only locomotor movement in pattern combinations. A second pilot study was conducted. As a result of the second pilot study, …
An Investigation Of The Ability Of An Individual To Perceive The Needs Of Others In A Group Setting, Herbert L. Notch
An Investigation Of The Ability Of An Individual To Perceive The Needs Of Others In A Group Setting, Herbert L. Notch
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The study of group dynamics has always been fascinated to those interested in a group setting. While much as been done in this area, a still larger amount of knowledge lies un-sorted and mysterious in the realm of group behavior. When, and specifically, when one who transmits enthusiasm and a guiding hand to a group, attempts to understand its workings, dynamics enter the group. A group has been defined as the meeting of a number of people and their subsequent interaction1. Admittedly, social interaction does take place in a group, if the above definition is accepted. This interaction has to …
A Study Of Seventh And Eighth Grade Home Economics Programs In South Dakota With Implications For Curriculum Development, Lacquita Olson Wagner
A Study Of Seventh And Eighth Grade Home Economics Programs In South Dakota With Implications For Curriculum Development, Lacquita Olson Wagner
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
One of the basic requirements of curriculum building is a clear and concise understanding of social, economic and technological developments which influence the American way of life. In fact curriculum revision is needed because of these rapid changes which are often so rapid that the educator has difficultly interpreting their implications. A first step in curriculum reorganization according to Trump and Baynham involves an analysis of what is being tought and studied by students.9 It was with this thought in mind that the writer developed a questionnaire which was sent to teachers in the public schools teaching homemaking in the …
