Extent Of Use Of Learning Packages And Their Acceptance By South Dakota Home Economics Teachers And Pupils, Marlene Bleeker Brands

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study· was to determine the extent to which home economics teachers in South Dakota were using learning packages. A second purpose was to determine teacher and pupil reaction to package teaching and learning. Of the 200 home economics teachers responding to the· teacher questionnaire, 72 or 36 percent indicated they had used learning packages during the 1970-71 school year. There was no significant difference among teachers with varying years of teacher experience as to whether or not they used packages. CAPSULES were the major source or type of learning package used by home economics teachers in …

Telemetered Cardiac Responses And Energy Expenditures Of Two Women Engaging In Intercollegiate Basketball, Sandra Ann Bode Feb 1972

Telemetered Cardiac Responses And Energy Expenditures Of Two Women Engaging In Intercollegiate Basketball, Sandra Ann Bode

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The role of women participating in athletics is becoming accepted as being a part of the educational process of the feminine sex. For many years such participation has been restricted due to customs, prejudices, and the lack of objective information as to what really happens physiologically to women while taking part in activity of varying stages of strenuousness. Is physical activity physiologically harmful to young women? Can a young woman withstand exercising at high heart rate levels for extended periods of time? The recent upsurge of women's basketball on the secondary and higher education levels behooves interested physical educators and …

Physiological Effects Of Nine Months Of Training And Competition On College Distance Runners, Deane Donald Bjerke Feb 1972

Physiological Effects Of Nine Months Of Training And Competition On College Distance Runners, Deane Donald Bjerke

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The present-day athletes who engage in cross country and distance running must dedicate themselves to running many miles in training to prepare for a season of competition. Distance running coaches employ various training methods for their athletes, knowing they need to increase cardiovascular endurance in order for performance improvement to take place. Many coaches are aware of the research which shows the effects of training on the cardiovascular system as related to running proficiency. Research involving well-trained athletes has shown the tremendous cardiovascular capacities that can be developed. This knowledge has helped the coach in training and developing his athletes--particularly …

Builders' Reactions To Changes In Demand : A Theory Of Short Run Fluctuation In Residential Single Family Housing Starts, Douglas Paul Anthony Feb 1972

Builders' Reactions To Changes In Demand : A Theory Of Short Run Fluctuation In Residential Single Family Housing Starts, Douglas Paul Anthony

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

One factor which distinguishes the production of non-mobile housing from the production of other consumer goods is the relatively long duration of the production process. A recent study found the median construction period for single family units to be three months, the mean length being 4.3 months. The implication is that, for single family housing, the level of inventory under construction is approximately three to four times the level of monthly starts and completions. If the level of realized sales falls short of the level of sales expected by a builder, it will create undesired increases in the level of …

Food Selectivity Of The Black Bullhead (Ictalurus Melas, Rafinesque) In Lake Poinsett, South Dakota, Andrew J. Repsys Jan 1972

Food Selectivity Of The Black Bullhead (Ictalurus Melas, Rafinesque) In Lake Poinsett, South Dakota, Andrew J. Repsys

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The food habits of young-of-the-year, subadult and adult black bullheads were studied in Lake Poinsett, South Dakota, from March, 1970, to April, 1971. Two hundred twenty young-of-the-year (37-87 mm total length) fed primarily on limnetic cladocerans and copepods. Leptodora and Diaphanosoma comprised 86.5% of the total food volume. Chironomid larvae and pupae made up 5.6% of the total. Other benthic organisms and littoral cladocerans together contributed less than 1%. Stomach contents of 608 subadult and adult black bullhead (143-304 mm total length) indicated significant seasonal vairaiton in diet. Daphnia pulex and chronomid larvae were important food items in winter. Bullheads …

Urban Insurrections: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach Toward An Integrated Typology, James Russell Stewart Jan 1972

Urban Insurrections: A Multi-Disciplinary Approach Toward An Integrated Typology, James Russell Stewart

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to investigate the possibility and appropriateness of employing a multi-disciplinary approach in the study of urban insurrections in an effort to construct a typology which would include all of the elements common to each disorder. The multi-disciplinary method is necessitated by the biases which are inherent in any analysis that is restricted to either a psychological, sociological, or politico-historical treatment of episodes of collective behavior. All of the disciplines make major contributions to any analysis, but it is the contention of this writer that the disciplines must be integrated before the most accurate depiction …

The Physiological And Anthropometrical Effects Of A Circuit Weight Training Program On The Endomorph, Mesomorph And Ectomorph, Ronald C. Downs Jan 1972

The Physiological And Anthropometrical Effects Of A Circuit Weight Training Program On The Endomorph, Mesomorph And Ectomorph, Ronald C. Downs

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The effectiveness of athletic performance in sports is centered to a great degree upon the muscular strength and the power of participants. Physical educators and coaches, recognizing that efficient and effective athletic performance hinge upon good muscular strength and power, are concerned with the development and maintenance of such qualities in their athletes. However, the extent to which muscular strength and power can be improved depends upon a number of factors among which is the body type of the athlete. Could a physical educator or coach expect an individual with a slight or heavy body build to improve in muscular …

A Study Of Selected Demographic Factors Associated With Changes In Age Structure In The Population Of South Dakota From 1960-1970, Robert Todd Wagner

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A study of the population profile for South Dakota for 1960 and 1970 was made to determine: (1) the changes that transpired in the composition 0£ the population for the age categories 0-4, 0-14, 15-34, 35-64, 65+ and 75+; (2) the variation in the changes observed in the selected age categories when controlled according to residence, sex and race differentials; and (3) the extent to which changes in the basic demographic components of migration, fertility and mortality are associated with changes in the age interval 0-4. Each county in South Dakota was employed as the unit of analysis, and census …

Carlyle's Literature Of Heroism And Its Contemporary Model--Mao, Kang-I Eleanor Chang Jan 1972

Carlyle's Literature Of Heroism And Its Contemporary Model--Mao, Kang-I Eleanor Chang

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Today when millions of Chinese people are shouting, "Long Live Chairman Mao” and waving their red books with flaming, uncontrollable enthusiasm, one wonders whether the worship is genuine, and whether this is the kind of worship which Carlyle means. However, the main emphasis of this thesis is on Carlyle's concept of heroism. Carlyle was greatly obsessed with the heroic ideal. After he was disappointed with the lack of modern heroes in America, he longed for a heroic nation to admire. Thus Carlyle, after a long pilgrimage became the good friend of Germany and the worshiper of German great men. He …

An Experimental Study Of No-Screen Bump Exposures For Short Density Range Reflection Copy, Stephen E. Horwood Jan 1972

An Experimental Study Of No-Screen Bump Exposures For Short Density Range Reflection Copy, Stephen E. Horwood

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this thesis, therefore, is to investigate a system of no-screen bump or highlight exposure (so-called because it is the highlight area of the negative that is affected) based on logarithmic densities and opacity tables. The system under investigation used in shooting the copy. R. E. Maurer says that 11 a contact screen is a light modulator that is placed in contact with the halftone emulsion. The small, vignetted dots in the photographic screen absorb the exposing light selectively so that the proper intensity distribution is produced in the halftone emulsion." The second exposure is the flash, which …

Factors Influencing Irregular Compaction Curves, Ching- Yee Hsu Jan 1972

Factors Influencing Irregular Compaction Curves, Ching- Yee Hsu

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The important influences of temperature on the compaction curves has been given little consideration, A.W. Johnson and J. K. Jallberg summarized primarily from a search of the literature that increasing the temperature leads to increase the maximum dry density 0£ the single peak curve. They explained that the water in the soil is more viscous at the lower temperature, reducing the workability of the soil, which induces a lower dry density. Some investigations which were not involved· in the compaction tests, have shown the temperature effect on some soil properties. From the results of confined and undrained compression test, M. …

Effects Of Diethylstilbestrol On Reproduction In The Black-Tailed Prairie Dog, Donald G. Pfeiffer Jan 1972

Effects Of Diethylstilbestrol On Reproduction In The Black-Tailed Prairie Dog, Donald G. Pfeiffer

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Research was conducted in southwestern South Dakota in 1970 and 1971 to obtain information on the reproductive cycle of the black-tailed prairie dog (Cynomys ludovicianus) and to test effectiveness of diethylstilbestrol as a reproductive inhibitor. Embryo body lengths from 10 pregnant females were compared to body lengths of 14 known day-old young to learn the peak breeding period when an estrogenic chemosterilant would be most effective. Conception dates were obtained for three females by backdating the gestation period. The breeding peak was found to occur in late February and early March in South Dakota. Nine of 11 Prairie dogs were …
