In the past several years, the use of progressive resistance exercises has increased to the point where it is widely accepted as one of the best methods of increasing strength. The popularization of such exercises has brought about the establishment of weight training programs by football coaches for the purpose of increasing strength between seasons. To effectively increase strength through such exercises, proper methods must be maintained. The use of improper methods of exercise may result in an increase in endurance, where an increase in strength is desired. Weight training is an ideal form of exercise for the development of …

This study attempts to provide an up-to-date appraisal of student newspaper in New Mexico high schools. Special attention is given to tracing objectives of the newspapers, the available advertiser ship, journalistic offerings in high schools, staff selection, trends in production, and finance of the publication. The objectives of the New Mexico high school student newspapers and a comparison with objectives listed by journalism text authors. “To disseminate school news” was the most frequently noted objective and was the most frequent listing as prime objective of the newspaper. “To build morale and school spirit” and “to provide an exploratory experience in …

This study was undertaken because the investigator, being an instructor in the graphic arts, was very much concerned with the opportunities for young people aspiring to enter the printing industry. The investigator had often been confronted with questions concerning reward in printing for ambitious and promising young men who entered the field. Answers given were not always completely satisfactory of students or the investigator, and attempts to become familiar with the subject proved to be unsuccessful. Preliminary research showed that the industrial promotions in general received some attention, but no literature was found that dealt with the printing industry and …

Criticisms of the mass media are manifold. One that concerns this investigator is the criticism leveled against the quantity and quality of their content. These criticisms fall into the following general areas: (1) overemphasis on entertaining rather than on informing, (2) sensationalism rather than effective popularization, (3) insufficient interpretation and reluctance to exercise the opinion function, (4) lack of both quantity and quality in media content in smaller communities, and (5) bad taste and lack of social purpose in advertising, a criticism frequently extended to charges of cynical manipulation of consumer thought.
