Agricultural Production Trends In South Dakota, 1925-51, Robert J. Antonides

Such information will be of value in analyzing the changes that have been taking place and will aid in developing educational programs to help improve agricultural productivity. No attempt here will be made to analyze the results obtained except …

A Study Of Male Eighth Grade Graduates Of Codington County, South Dakota Who Dropped Out And Who Did Not Start High School From 1948 Through 1952., Clarence R. Hall
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Rural pupils must make a major change from the eighth grade in the country school to the ninth grade in a city, town or consolidated school. Some ot them never begin high school and some of those who do, tail to complete their work. There is seemingly a natural break between the eighth grade in a rural school and the ninth grade in high school. School through the eighth grade has been compulsory. Now, it is voluntary. They have been graduated from a rural school where there were perhaps only one or two in the class and perhaps ten or …
Estimating Commercial Expansion From Irrigation Development In The Oahe Unit, John E. Thompson
Estimating Commercial Expansion From Irrigation Development In The Oahe Unit, John E. Thompson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Commercial activity in an economy that is predominantly agricultual is very sensitive to changes in farming conditions. It is generally agreed by businessmen in agricultural areas that the success of their business operation is largely dependent upon the number and prosperity of farmers in their trade areas. For this reason businessmen often encourage proposals to increase the number of forms in their trade areas and support measures designed to improve the economic position of farmers. In South Dakota, where rainfall is considered a limiting factor in agricultural production, considerable interest has been taken in irrigation as a means for increasing …

A Study Of The Practices And Procedures Prevailing In The Legion Government Day's Programs In Five South Dakota Schools During 1953, Philip R. Haskett
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The project was adopted by the national American Legion in 1951; however, similar programs were in existence in a number of schools prior to that time. The approach to the problem has been unique in South Dakota. · Because it is sponsored by a state-wide organization, the American Legion, projects are round in the smaller as well as in the larger schools. The purpose of this study, then, is to determine the practices and procedures used in Legion Government Days' programs in five schools in this area of South Dakota. The programs which are the subject of this investigation originated …
Scholastic Records And Personality And Character Traits Of The Public-School Trained And The Parochial-Trained Students Of The Graduating Class Of 1952, Central High School, Aberdeen, South Dakota, John J. Woodruff
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For many years at Aberdeen, South Dakota, a difference of opinion has existed regarding the relative academic achievement, rank in class, and social adjustments of the students in the public school system and parochial -school system. The advocates of the two school systems have base their opinions on observations only and without the benefit of statistical evidence. To present impartial evidence upon which the proponents may form a more logical conclusion was the purpose of the investigator. The purpose of this study was to compare the students who had received the first nine years of their training in a parochial …
Scheduling Of Extracurricular Activities In The Consolidated Schools Of South Dakota, Charles Webbenhurst
Scheduling Of Extracurricular Activities In The Consolidated Schools Of South Dakota, Charles Webbenhurst
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the State of South Dakota we have had well over fifty Consolidated Schools operating for the past several decades. There are many problems in connection with the operating of a Consolidated School. It is rather obvious that these schools must do comparatively well in most phases of activity to avoid undesirable criticism from outsiders as well as from the patrons of the local district. These consolidated schools should strive to do at least as good a job of educating the individual student as the neighboring non-consolidated schools do. This would include the extracurricular program of the consolidated school just …

A Survey Of The Status Of Conservation Education In Junior High Schools Of Eight Selected Counties In Northwest Iowa, John E. Voss
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In recent years the subject of conservation has acquired considerable importance throughout this country. The very nature of the problem has become so broad as to include nearly every facet of our daily lives. It has come to include human lives, consumer education, and production along with the more traditional areas of our natural resources such as forests, minerals, soil, and water. As with other contemporary topics, this subject has many implications for American education. It has becorr1e increasingly evident that if we are to maintain our present high standards of living, some effort in education has to be put …
A Comparative Study Of The Scholastic Ability Of South Dakota High School Seniors In Their Self-Selected Occupational Groups As Evidenced By The State-Wide Ace Test Results In 1952, Guy O. Karnes
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The major study was to discover the general character of fourteen selected groups from the high-school seniors of South Dakota who took the ACE tests and filled in the personal data in the Fall of 1952. Eleven of these groups were occupations; one group was those who indicated college academic majors; one group was made up of those boys and girls who put in some form of military service as their "tentative occupational choice," and the final one was composed of those boys and girls who gave no vocational choice. The median was used as the measure of central tendency …

Achieving Farm Ownership In South Dakota Through The Farm Ownership Program Of The Farmers Home Administration, Canute M. Johnson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The problem stated as a broad social question is : Has the Farm Ownership loan program been achieving its objectives of reducing farm tenancy and promoting security of tenure through family farm ownership? Available evidence indicates that the program may not have been very effective in reducing farm tenancy either nationally or in a high-tenancy area such as South Dakota where 53 percent of the farmers were tenants in 1940 . From its inception in 1937 through June 30, 1950, the Farm Ownership loan program made 58, 395 direct and insured loans in the United States. This figure compared with …
