Marketing Cream In Plastic Bags, James L. Olson
Marketing Cream In Plastic Bags, James L. Olson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Because quality directly affects both price and consumption, one of the basic problems facing the butter industry in South Dakota is quality improvement. Under the price support program, certain minimum quality standards have to be complied with before surplus butter can be sold to the government. One-fourth of the butter produced in South Dakota does not meet this minimum quality requirement, assuming that conditions have not changed since 1951-52. Marketing and processing cream plays an important part in quality. The small producer is at a disadvantage in that he usually does not have the facilities to handle his cream properly. …

A Study To Determine The Importance Of Pre-Service Training In Teaching Farm Mechanics Jobs In Vocational Agriculture, Morris W. Magnuson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Farms today are mechanized to a stage which would have been termed impossible two generations ago. In training the farmers of tomorrow it is the responsibility of the vocational agriculture teacher to prepare the boys to meet the challenge of this mechanized age of farming. Present complexity, new machines, new problems, and new skills to be learned and acquired are challenges which must be met by the teacher and the boy to make him a better farmer than his father before him. In teaching farm mechanics there are hundreds of major and minor skills in which a teacher must be …

A Status Survey Of Twelve Teacher Training Institutions Pertaining To Graduate Majors In Industrial Education, Duane R. Serlet
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Because of the increasing demands for graduate courses in this field, there arises the question as to the nature of the courses to be taught. Of course an institution may set up enough graduate work in Industrial Education for a major, but the candidate may be privileged to take his choice of a graduate major, a graduate minor, or a few graduate supporting courses. A related problem for the institution and also for the graduate student is that of admission requirements. The institution also has the problem of determining the nature of, and setting up the graduate courses in Industrial …

Suitability Of South Dakota Locations For Straw Pulping Plants, Winston K. Ullman
Suitability Of South Dakota Locations For Straw Pulping Plants, Winston K. Ullman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
An improved pulping process has been developed by the USDA which uses straw as the basic ingredient in the production of boxboard and corrugating paper. If a plant or plants using this pulping process could be built in the state, a use would have been found for a product produced by farmers that has very limited commercial value to them at present. The Northern Utilization Research Branch of the Agricultural Research Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture, has been selected the Experiment Station of South Dakota State College to undertake a research contract to determine availability of surplus wheat, rye, and …
A Preliminary Study Of Farmer Bankruptcy Experiences In The Dakotas 1928-1952, James Munger
A Preliminary Study Of Farmer Bankruptcy Experiences In The Dakotas 1928-1952, James Munger
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For many years a difference of opinion has existed regarding the relative effectiveness of the various methods for the relief of farmers in financial distress. Much interest has been centered around price support programs which would prevent farmers from becoming financially distressed but little attention has been devoted to an analysis of modern farm bankruptcy legislation which would permit individual farmers to rehabilitate themselves when faced with economic ruin.
A Study Of School Costs In The Wolsey Independent School District From 1944 To 1954, Mark E. Cogswell
A Study Of School Costs In The Wolsey Independent School District From 1944 To 1954, Mark E. Cogswell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The desirability of some form of budgetary procedure for public schools has long been recognized. It is wise planning to apportion available funds among the various items necessary for the efficient operation of the school system, and serious effort should be made to restrict expenditures to the various estimated amounts set forth in the adopted budget. In the larger city districts, in most cases, the boards of education are progressive and forward-looking and have developed budgetary procedures to a high degree. In cases where the basic school administrative unit is so small that, often, leadership in education and business management …

Status Of The Curriculum And The Practices And Regulations Affecting It In The Four-Teacher High Schools Of South Dakota, George Webbenhurst
Status Of The Curriculum And The Practices And Regulations Affecting It In The Four-Teacher High Schools Of South Dakota, George Webbenhurst
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In the United States public education has been generally designated as a local responsibility rather than a state or federal function. The local community is also expected to contribute the greater share of the financial cost of operating the school. The school, being controlled locally, is designed to best meet the demands of the community it serves. This results in a certain amount of variance in the curriculums of the school of this country. A certain amount of similarity in the curriculums is due to the regulations imposed by state regulations and also, in cases of federal financial support, by …
A Study Of The Education And Careers Of Eighth Grade Graduates Of Harding County, South Dakota From 1945-1954, Clifford A. Scherer
A Study Of The Education And Careers Of Eighth Grade Graduates Of Harding County, South Dakota From 1945-1954, Clifford A. Scherer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
At the present time Harding County is on the possible verge of changes that would affect the basic economic, social, educational, and political structure of the county. No one knows what the discovery of commercial quantities of oil and uranium might bring about it is reasonable to assume that any such changes would affect educational problems and policies in the county. This possibility makes it important that an evaluation of the present status of education in the county should be made now. The people of the county, themselves, feel the time is here for an evaluation of their educational system …

History Of The Kidder Consolidated School Covering The Fourteen-Year Period From 1941 Through 1954, Francis W. Richter
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In recent years there has been a great deal of speculation concerning the role of the small high school in the educational picture in South Dakota. The investigator has not intended to make a comparison between the small high school and the large high school but rather has undertaken to survey the Kidder Independent Consolidated school and note its progress toward fulfilling the needs of the community and keeping abreast of the times from 1941 through 1954.

Different members of the group have their optimum growth at temperatures slightly below the mesophilic range, but will grow at temperatures ranging from below zero to 25 degrees C. they have become increasingly important with the advent of the frozen food industry. In this respect they are as important to the homemaker to the scientist and industrialist. It was with the hope of adding to the …
A Status Study Of Elementary School Principals In South Dakota, James Wade
A Status Study Of Elementary School Principals In South Dakota, James Wade
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In recent years the importance of an adequately trained elementary-school principal has been recognized by many of our school officials. Because of this recognition the State Department of Public Instruction in South Dakota is increasing its requirements for an Elementary-School Principal’s Administrative certificate. Effective July 1, 1955, the above certificate will be issued to elementary-school principals who devote and one-half or more of their time to administration and supervision, and who have earned nine semester hours of graduate credit in the field of administration, supervision, and guidance, with a minimum of two semester hours of credit in each field. The …
Factors Pertaining To The Employment Of Married-Women Teachers In Public Schools Of Minnesota, Kenneth W. Sandboe
Factors Pertaining To The Employment Of Married-Women Teachers In Public Schools Of Minnesota, Kenneth W. Sandboe
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Before World War II the economic conditions and the oversupply of teachers tended to build up restrictions against employment of married-women teachers in the public schools. Many school boards went ahead and made board regulations against the hiring of married-women teachers. After the start of the World War II large numbers of the public-school teachers left the teaching profession to enter the services of their country and some to secure more lucrative employment. Also a diminished number of young people undertook teacher-training work in the colleges. As a result of these movements the public schools of our nation were then …
