A Study Of The Aspects Of Vocational Agriculture Teacher Travel In South Dakota, Sylvan D. Vigness Feb 1958

A Study Of The Aspects Of Vocational Agriculture Teacher Travel In South Dakota, Sylvan D. Vigness

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Travel outside the area is vital to the success of vocational agriculture programs. It enables the instructor to improve professionally through his attendance at conferences, conventions, and other meetings held for purposes of in-service improvement. An integral portion of the vocational agriculture teacher’s responsibilities also entails visiting students and their parents on their home farms. Travel benefits students as well. Students in vocational agriculture classes “learn by doing”. Without travel some of the effectiveness of the vocational agriculture programs could be lost, since the home farm, as well as industries related to agriculture, serve as the laboratory. The purpose of …

Locker And Shower Room Facilities Used For Physical Education At South Dakota State College, Peter Dominic Torino

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This is a study of the existing locker and shower room facilities for physical education at South Dakota State College. At present, there is little or no information covering this topic, and at the same time there is a possibility that such information could be most useful and important. South Dakota State College at present requires at least one year of physical education for all students. With the present load and the predicted increased enrollment, will the facilities be able to handle the increase, and are they now adequate to handle their present load? It is the purpose of this …

A Study On Turkish Highways, Orhan Tasangil Feb 1958

A Study On Turkish Highways, Orhan Tasangil

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

In the time of the Seljuk Turks and the Ottoman Empire, the majority of the roads were built for the purpose of the major military campaigns. Later, the discovery of the ocean rout via the Cape of Good Hope caused the old caravan routes to be neglected; and consequently, the roads of Turkey were allowed to deteriorate. With the development of express highways and modern commercial vehicles, Turkey has now entered an era in which road transport is again in a position to compete even with sea transportation. Turkey, therefore, will play once again an important part internationally and this …

The Relationships Of Selected Factors To The Personal Adjustment Of A South Dakota Rural-Nonfarm Community's Older Population, Denton E. Morrison

Declining health, loss of physical vigor and the increased probability of death are conditions to which the aged of all societies must adjust. In addition, many older citizens in American society must face unique problems including the termination of gainful employment; reduced income; isolation through death or removal of family, friends, peers; increased periods of indolence; and a decreasing standard of living. Moreover, later life with its attendant complex of problems now faces more people in this country than ever before. The problems of older citizens in American society have therefore become the focus of considerable public attention in recent …

Acreage Response Of South Dakota Wheat Producers To Expected Price Changes, 1955, Richard Hoyt Kruse

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Prices have long been considered to be an important factor influencing agricultural production. The diversity of views as to the effectiveness of prices in allocating resources in agriculture has served to emphasize the need for further research on this problem. Geographic and economic conditions in South Dakota are widely different from other parts of the nation. This study was undertaken in order that legislators and other policy makers might have access to more research results in formulating future agricultural policies. The purpose of this …

A Bibliography Of Studies In Oral Reading, With Annotations Of Studies In The Teaching Of Artistic Oral Reading In College, Jeanne Phyllis Grove

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Educators and oral readers have differed on what should be included in a course of study for oral reading. The student of oral reading must examine the field and try to formulate his own philosophy. In so doing he finds that some studies of oral reading have stressed different schools of thought. Others have discussed specific problems in the field, compiled philosophies and methods of leading writers and teachers, or studied textbooks used in oral reading. These investigations offer a means for students and teachers to note the trends in the study and philosophy of oral reading, including the specialized …

This information was thought to have indications for improvements in the homemaking program, in preparation for guidance, and in the understandings and beliefs concerning home …

The Physiology And Some Nutritional Aspects Of A Rumen Bacterium, Norma P. Christopherson Jan 1958

The Physiology And Some Nutritional Aspects Of A Rumen Bacterium, Norma P. Christopherson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

One of the interesting symbiotic relationships in nature is that existing between the ruminants and their microbial population. This arrangement has solved for them the problem of existing on an herbivorous diet. Most mammals can derive little benefit from the potentially available energy in plant materials, which is locked in the complex, insoluble polysaccharide, cellulose. Cellulase is not a mammalian enzyme, but it is part of the chemical machinery of a number of bacteria, some species of which reside in the rumen. Many different organisms are present and their biochemical activities have not as yet been completely delineated. All of …

Raw Sewage Stabilization Ponds As A Means Of Sewage Treatment, John Robert Anderson Jan 1958

Raw Sewage Stabilization Ponds As A Means Of Sewage Treatment, John Robert Anderson

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The successful operation of sewage stabilization ponds by a number of North and South Dakota communities during the past few years has shown this method of disposal to be adequate in taking care of the needs of small communities. Since land is relatively cheap compared to construction work involved in the building of a sewage treatment plant, and since the actual construction cost of a stabilization pond I s a comparatively small figure, this type of treatment has been readily accepted by the smaller communities. Because stabilization ponds are primarily successful due to solar radiation and vary according to climatic …
