A Critical Comparison Of The Restitution Motifs Of The Campbells (1809-1830) And The Anabaptists (1524-1560), Richard Thomas Hughes
A Critical Comparison Of The Restitution Motifs Of The Campbells (1809-1830) And The Anabaptists (1524-1560), Richard Thomas Hughes
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Many students have been impressed with the restitutionist character of the Radical Reformation and have observed certain similarities between that movement and the Restoration movement in America. The primary problem and purposes of this study are therefore twofold: (1) Were the two movements really similar, and if so, to what extent? (2) If both groups started with essentially the same presuppositions regarding the Scriptures, the church that was to be restored, and the method of restitution, how should one account for any differences that existed in practice?
Kentucky's 1935 Gubernatorial Election., Olivia M. Frederick
Kentucky's 1935 Gubernatorial Election., Olivia M. Frederick
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis deals with the events and issues which were connected with the 1935 gubernatorial election. There is first a brief sketch of Kentucky politics prior to the 1935 election. Particular interest is given to the history of the Democratic party and the split which occurred in it at the turn of the century. A great deal of attention is given to the factional struggles which occurred in the period between 1931 and 1935. The controversy and drive for a primary law is discussed in detail. Because of the nature of the primary law enacted in 1935 two primary elections …

A Survey Of School Districts In Boyd County, Nebraska, 1965-1966, Robert Stuerman
A Survey Of School Districts In Boyd County, Nebraska, 1965-1966, Robert Stuerman
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Today, due to the ever-increasing educational requirements laid down by states and the increasing costs of education, many of the smaller districts have either been forced to close down or are lacking in one or more of the state requirements and are on the verge of losing their accreditation and ultimately their school. Dennis M. David made a survey of 135 citizens in five mid-western states and showed that only one-fourth of the people were aware that the purpose of reorganization of school districts is to provide better education. It has been shown through surveys of Nebraska County high school …
A Study Of The Equalization Formula Of South Dakota's Minimum Foundation Program, Arthur K. Shaver
A Study Of The Equalization Formula Of South Dakota's Minimum Foundation Program, Arthur K. Shaver
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In 1963, the South Dakota State Legislature passed a supplemental portion to the minimum foundation law. This section of the law1 provides support to school districts on a formula of equalization base on an individual school district’s need and effort. The law limits the amount of equalization support distribution to $2,000,000. In 1963, when the law was passed, foundation payment computations were not available on every district. Information necessary to evaluate the foundation program became available to educators and legislators in 1964 when payment were computed to districts for the first time. Problems in the mechanics of the formula became …
The Nature And The Influence Of The Work Of The Information And Education Section, South Dakota Department Of Game, Fish And Parks, Edward Riedl
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This paper deals with a study of an organization whose responsibility is to inform and educate people. This is a study of the program of the Information and Education Section, South Dakota Department of Game, Fish and Parks. There is much confusion connected with the terms “public relations,” “publicity,” and “public information.” Definitions of these terms will result in a better understanding of this study. Emery, Ault and Agee define public relations, “as the planned effort to influence and maintain favorable opinion through acceptable performance, honestly presented, and with reliance on two-way communications.”1 Public relations is also a management function. …
Incomplete Neurological Development As A Root Of Reading Problems: A Classroom Teacher's Approach, Helen B. Prokes
Incomplete Neurological Development As A Root Of Reading Problems: A Classroom Teacher's Approach, Helen B. Prokes
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Incomplete neurological development as a root of reading problems is a concept that could revolutionize our system of education. It could guide us to treating the “disease” rather than the symptoms. It could save us much “beating of the air” in our use of methods. It could modify our demands that learning take place in developmental infancy. At least, that is the theory of Dr. Carl H. Delacato2 and his associates in their Developmental Reading Program at Chestnut Hill Academy in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Their motivation stems from the conviction that “reading problems need not exist at all because they can …
An Economic Analysis Of The Effect Of Commercial Bank Credit On Economic Growth In South Dakota, Robert W. Mckellips
An Economic Analysis Of The Effect Of Commercial Bank Credit On Economic Growth In South Dakota, Robert W. Mckellips
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Contemporary economic growth theories generally emphasize the importance of capital accumulation as requirement for growth. Capital accumulation is possible by diversion of a portion of present production from consumption into production of capital goods. If a portion is diverted from consumption, the dollar value of consumption goods available is less than the total income of the factors of production. The consumer is forced to forgo consumption and save part of his income. That portion of income which is saved by the firm may be directly invested because the firm is the investing institution. The savings of the other sectors must …
Planned Educational Progress In The Mitchell Public School System, Donald Jesse Mclean
Planned Educational Progress In The Mitchell Public School System, Donald Jesse Mclean
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
There is but one major purpose for the existence of the public schools in the American society. That purpose is to provide the best possible education for the nation’s children. Several elements are required to make this successful program a reality within a given community. The school board and administration must provide for at least three important ingredients, the first being a system of well-designed school buildings. The second is the employment of well- prepared teachers and the third is a well-planned curriculum. To accomplish a successful program it is necessary to continually evaluate all three areas. In doing so …
A Follow-Up Study Of South Dakota State University Graduates With A Major In Industrial Arts 1951 Through 1966, Robert Vernon Lee
A Follow-Up Study Of South Dakota State University Graduates With A Major In Industrial Arts 1951 Through 1966, Robert Vernon Lee
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Education is not an end in itself. It is only a means to an end. This end is usually away from the educational institution itself. There are no doubt several methods for evaluating the effectiveness that the educational institution is achieving in its endeavor to prepare its graduates toward the desired goals. The degree of proficiency in the individual subjects can be tested while the student is in school. How the person is doing after graduation is a major part of the true test of his overall education. Evaluation becomes more difficult after the student has graduated. This is due …
Feedlot Performance Of Hereford And Holstein Steers As Affected By Ration And Slaughter Weight, William M. Larson
Feedlot Performance Of Hereford And Holstein Steers As Affected By Ration And Slaughter Weight, William M. Larson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In 1918 the Bureau of Markets, now the Bureau of Agriculture Economics, of the United States Department of Agriculture inaugurated its market reporting service on livestock in Chicago. At that time a uniform standard was set up for market classes and grades of cattle. The use of these uniform descriptions for all classes and grades of cattle throughout the country by researchers, producers, selling and buying agencies and packers has contributed a great deal to the orderly marketing of cattle and to the reporting and exchange of research information. The grade of a particular animal is determined by the apparent …

A Study Of Expansion And Contraction In A Pavement Consisting Of Prestressed Concrete Panels Interconnected In Place, George A. Jacoby
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This thesis investigation is a study of the temperature expansion and contraction characteristics of a composite pavement constructed as a continuous pavement. The composite pavement consists of precast, prestressed concrete panels interconnected with grout keys and special panel connectors. A thin layer of asphaltic concrete is placed on the panels to provide a smooth riding surface and protection for the panels. This pavement was developed at South Dakota State University by Emil R. Hargett as a means of providing a more economical pavement for the high traffic volumes and heavy wheel loads that are now carried by our modern highways. …
A Proposed Demonstration City For The Oahe Irrigation Development, Frederick Daryl Hejl
A Proposed Demonstration City For The Oahe Irrigation Development, Frederick Daryl Hejl
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
It is believed that existing metropolitan development problems may be greatly alleviated by reducing the migration of the agrarian people to the urbanized areas. If we are to reduce the migration of our agrarian population to urban areas, we must provide them with a higher standard of living and an increased earing capacity. It is the purpose of this thesis to make a rational investigation of a demonstration city designed for the purpose of providing the modern farmer with the desirable features normally associated with urbanized development. The use of a demonstration city was suggested by Professor Hargett of South …
The Effects Of Arsenical Compounds On Growth And Enzymes Of Klebsiella Pneumoniae, M. L. Halling
The Effects Of Arsenical Compounds On Growth And Enzymes Of Klebsiella Pneumoniae, M. L. Halling
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
For many years people have equated arsenic or compounds containing arsenic with poison. Inorganic arsenic compounds are used as chemotherapeutic agents as well as poisons. Organic arsenicals were introduced at the start of this century launching modern chemotherapy. The introduction of antibiotics in the 1940’s virtually replaced organic arsenicals in chemotherapy. Solutions of inorganic arsenic compounds are used as tonics for animals and to finish animals for show. Because arsenicals are excreted by animals in much the same structure as they are consumed and arsenite prevents both putrefaction and growth, it is possible the decomposition of animal excreta will be …
A Method For Characterizing The Noise Produced By An Agricultural Tractor In Terms Of The Acoustic Power And Directivity, Tom Shepherd Chisholm
A Method For Characterizing The Noise Produced By An Agricultural Tractor In Terms Of The Acoustic Power And Directivity, Tom Shepherd Chisholm
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In agriculture, as in the civic, military and industrial areas, excessive noise is a problem that must be recognized. Tentative criteria have been established that specify the maximum noise levels that people can be exposed to for various time periods without receiving permanent hearing damage. In many cases, the noise produced at the operator’s location by agricultural machines is considerably above the maximum safe level for continuous daily exposure. The seriousness of the problem is further emphasized when it is realized that many young men in their teens are operating agricultural machines. The hearing damage that they receive will be …
The Concept Of The Flapper In The Early Writings Of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Janet Foster Carroll
The Concept Of The Flapper In The Early Writings Of F. Scott Fitzgerald, Janet Foster Carroll
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A curious, but important, relationship exists between the social history of a particular age and the imaginative literature of the same period. The writings in both areas become major sources of knowledge about that era for readers in future generations. The following thesis is the outgrowth, in part, of this interest – an examination of the concept of the flapper in the early works of F. Scott Fitzgerald. For years Fitzgerald has been regarded as the chronicler of his Age. As early as 1920 he was heralded by the public as “Spokesman for the Younger Generation,” and although he seems …
An Analysis Of Per Capita Costs For Selected County Functions In South Dakota, Burdette V. Blumer
An Analysis Of Per Capita Costs For Selected County Functions In South Dakota, Burdette V. Blumer
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
South Dakota had a greater number of local governments per 100,000 inhabitants than any other state in the United States in 1962.1 This fact suggests the existence of economic inefficiency in the operation of local governments in South Dakota. The people of South Dakota are demanding more services form their governments in South Dakota. The people of South Dakota are demanding more services from their governments. Governmental functions are becoming more expensive, partly because of providing more and higher quality services, and thus the taxes are increasing.2 Taxes are of constant concern, perhaps greater concern than usual, among the people …
An Economic Analysis Of Livestock Auctions In South Dakota, Donald K. Bendt
An Economic Analysis Of Livestock Auctions In South Dakota, Donald K. Bendt
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The structure of the livestock industry in the United States has undergone change in the past three decades. Integration, scale economies, changed eating habits, production and processing innovations, decentralization and increased demand for service have all affected the market structure. During this change, however, livestock auctions have remained important outlets for marketing livestock. Since the establishment of the first auction at Yankton in 1930, livestock auctions in South Dakota have become increasingly important.1 By 1937 the number had increased to 34. In 1964 there were 58 auctions operating in the state handling an annual volume of almost three million head …
Fox-Prey Relationships In Eastern South Dakota, Robert L. Drieslein
Fox-Prey Relationships In Eastern South Dakota, Robert L. Drieslein
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Relationships between red foxes (Vulpes fulva) end their principal prey, particularly ring-necked pheasants (Phasianus colchicus), were studied on four units in eastern South Dakota from December 1964 to September 1966. Each unit was composed of a 100-square-mile "reduction area," on which fox populations were reduced, and a 100-square-mile "check area," on which fox populations were not reduced for the study. Indices to populations of foxes, pheasants, mice, eastern cottontails (Svlvilagus floridanus) and whitetail jackrabbits (Lepus townsendi) were obtained and used to evaluate food habits and the effect of predator reduction on prey populations. Four-hundred seventeen stomachs and 104 female reproductive …
Seasonal Movements Of Prairie Grouse In South Dakota, Warren W. Jackson
Seasonal Movements Of Prairie Grouse In South Dakota, Warren W. Jackson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
From 1962 through 1966, 1,401 plains sharp-tailed grouse (Pedicecetes phasianellus jamesi) and greater prairie chickens (Tympanuchus cupide pinnatus) were trapped in Gregory and Lyman Counties in south-central South Dakota. Cannon-projected nets and funnel traps were used to capture prairie grouse on breeding grounds and winter baitsites. Some birds were marked with backtags and leg-markers. Movement information was obtained from field observations, hunter reports, sharp-tailed grouse collections, and by recapturing banded birds. Male birds moved less than two miles from winter baitsites to breeding areas; most movements over five miles were made by immature female birds. Seventy-seven percent of the hunter …
Comparison Of Two Cultures For Use In Preacidified Skimmilk For Cottage Cheese Manufacture, Daryl D. Boddicker
Comparison Of Two Cultures For Use In Preacidified Skimmilk For Cottage Cheese Manufacture, Daryl D. Boddicker
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Curd formation in a cultured dairy product is brought about by the addition of a bacterial culture capable of producing lactic acid from lactose. The primary function of this culture is to produce sufficient lactic acid to cause coagulation of the caseinate system of skimmilk. A secondary function of the culture is the production of flavor compounds considered to be desirable in these products. The flavor compounds produced by the normal growth of citric acid fermenting organisms are water soluble, and are largely removed during washing of the Cottage cheese curd. Therefore, flavor compounds are normally added to the cheese …
The Influence Of Artificial Insemination In Three Midwestern States, Wendell Lee. Kucker
The Influence Of Artificial Insemination In Three Midwestern States, Wendell Lee. Kucker
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Increased productivity of dairy cattle depends in part upon genetic changes brought about by select ion. Because of the long generation interval and low reproductive rate, genetic improvement in dairy cattle is slow. For this reason, the accuracy and effectiveness of selection of sires is of utmost importance. Selection of sires plays a major role in the genetic improvement of dairy cattle since a sire can leave many more descendants than a female. Consequently, the use of outstanding males is important in the genetic advancement of the dairy cattle population in the upper mid west as well as throughout the …
