Speech Training And Speech Activities In Institutions Of Higher Education In Taiwan, Chang Yuh-Sheng

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

An M.A. thesis in speech on the status of speech training in Taiwan, China, is proposed. From personal experience, this author has discovered some difficulties which Chinese students meet when they take up speech in American universities. The chief reason for this might be that the Chinese students who study speech in American universities and colleges have a somewhat limited knowledge of the speech areas and an. inadequate background of speech training. Since speech courses are elective in most of the universities in Taiwan, the students' interest in participating in speech activities, such as speech contest and ·dramatic performance, has …

Adjustment Of Rural And Urban Residents In Five Retirement Homes In Northeastern Wisconsin, Grace E. Kiefert

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The need for this study is indicated by gaps in gerontological research and information. Until the last twenty years, studies were not often made of the many aspects of the aged in society; and currently, many questions in this field remain unanswered. Some studies have dealt with the physical setting of the retirement homes, but the individual's perception of the home has not been studied. The actual physical conditions of the homes are inconsequential to this study because the residents' perception of the situation· is critical to adjustment. This will provide the focus for this study. The objectives of this study …

An Ecological Study Of Coleoptera Succession In Bovine Manure With Emphasis On Natural Enemies Of The Face Fly (Musca Autumnalis De Geer) In Eastcentral South Dakota, Howard Kessler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The frequency and succession patterns of coleopterous species in cattle dung were determined for two localities in eastcentral South Dakota during 1969 and 1970. Thirty-nine species of beetles were screened as potential predators of the face fly, Musca autumnalis De Geer, a pest of cattle and horses; and 1 Coleoptera, 1 Hymenoptera and 1 nematode were screened as parasites of the same host. Corn, oat hulls, solvent-extracted soybean meal, full-fat extruded soybeans, C-1 protein, casein and texturized forms of soy protein were added to the basal diet at various levels. All feedstuffs were added at two particle sizes: natural form of the feedstuff (>250 u); and ground in a ball mill (<250 >u). The effects of autoclaving for 60 minutes at 120°C were also investigated. …

Unlike most of the studies which have attempted to meliorate the exigencies of unemployment, this study focused on the needs …

A Conceptual Analysis Of Alienation In Current Theory And Research, Lanny Aron Neider Jan 1971

A Conceptual Analysis Of Alienation In Current Theory And Research, Lanny Aron Neider

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study is to examine the assumed relationship between theory and research with respect to alienation. The basic hypothesis of this study is that empirical research on alienation would be influenced by existing theoretical formulations on the topic. It is argued that Melvin Seaman's 1959 conceptualization of alienation would constitute the major theoretical influence inasmuch as it alone provided a systematic set of researchable meanings. To test this basic hypothesis, four sub-hypotheses were developed: (1) Based upon Seeman's five dimensional scheme one should expect a fairly equal emphasis on the examination of all dimensions of alienation in …

An Analysis Of Three Approaches To Grammar With Recommendations For A Multiphasal Grammar, Rose Marsha Kessler Jan 1971

An Analysis Of Three Approaches To Grammar With Recommendations For A Multiphasal Grammar, Rose Marsha Kessler

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Today the teacher is confronted with three approaches to the teaching of grammar, all of which contain useful concepts; it is the major contention of this study that the best of each of these approaches may be the desired choice. It is the intention of this paper to propose a multiphasal grammar and to show that such a grammar seems to be the ultimate direction for the teaching of the English language. This multiphasal grammar will combine the best of the three approaches: the most useful and logical elements of traditional nomenclature; the structuralists' emphasis on the sound of language, …

The Relationship Of Forward Pass Catching Ability In Football And Selected Anatomical Measurements And Motor Responses, Marlin Peter Vis

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

American football has undergone many significant changes since its first recorded game between Rutgers and Princeton in 1869. Once change has been the growth in the importance of the forward pass to the offense. Rockne cites the year 1912 as a turning point of the growth in popularity of football. It was during this year that the Rules Committee removed many of the restrictions against the forward pass and made more definite the penalties against interfering with the receiver. Rockne states that this increase in the popularity of football is due “entirely to the open game, to the increase of …

An Evaluation Of An Aerated Lagoon System Treating Combined Dairy And Domestic Wastes During Summer Operation, Douglas M. Skie

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The Water Quality Act of 1965 and the adoption of the subsequent state water quality standards emphasized the general public's concern for the control of water pollution; for it has become the goal of our nation to maintain all American waters in a suitable condition for domestic and industrial supply, for recreation and for other beneficial uses. It is for these reasons that many communities have been faced with the problem of constructing new sewage treatment facilities or expanding present operations. The use of stabilization ponds as a means of providing sewage treatment has been the practice of many small …

S. I. Hayakawa's Expressed Positions Regarding Campus Government And Control From November 26, 1968 To March 20, 1969, Richard E. Pletcher

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Since the role of many college administrators has been challenged in the past by segments of the college community, it may be valuable to look at possible effects of this challenge. In any college, one of the main figures of established authority is the college president. The purpose of this study has been to ascertain to what extent the position of the chosen administrator regarding campus government and control, as revealed in his public statements, has been altered over the period of time from November 26, 1968, to March 20, 1969. For purposes of this study campus government and control …
