The Effectiveness Of The Tarmac Reading Program, Dan G. Wilder
The Effectiveness Of The Tarmac Reading Program, Dan G. Wilder
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Statement of the Problem. It was the problem of this study to determine if educationally-deprived students participating in the TARMAC Diagnostic-Prescriptive Reading Program would show significant differences in reading abilities compared with educationally-deprived students who were not participants in that program. Limitations of the Study. The following limitations were imposed upon the study: 1. Initial grade levels in reading in control and experimental groups were measured by California Achievement Test scores as criteria for defining educationally deprived. 2. The 1975-76 school year was used as the experimental period. 3. The results were limited to one school and forty student participants. …
Analysis Of Aerial Surveys And Tolerance Of Landowners For A Canada Goose Flock In Northeastern South Dakota, Thomas C. Tacha
Analysis Of Aerial Surveys And Tolerance Of Landowners For A Canada Goose Flock In Northeastern South Dakota, Thomas C. Tacha
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Four hundred rural landowners were interviewed in Day and Marshall counties in South Dakota in 1974 and 1975. These 400 interviews included 200 interviews with landowners living within 6.4 km of the three major summer-fall goose concentration areas and 200 interviews from a random sample of landowners living in the study area. Eighty-six percent of the interviewed landowners indicated that it was a good idea to expand the northeastern South Dakota Canada goose flock from 2,000 to 5,000 birds. Only 6 percent of the landowners had complaints about the geese, despite the fact that 23.5 percent of them had received …

Factors Associated With The Acceptance By Nursing Students Of Role Functions As Characteristic Of An Expanded Role For Nurses, Sharon Leech Hofland
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A study of graduating nursing students was conducted to determine: (1) the extent to which these students would be willing to accept specified role functions as characteristic of an expanded role for nurses; and (2) what factors are associated with and seem to explain the graduating nursing students' acceptance of these specified role functions as characteristic of an expanded role for nurses. An interview schedule was developed, pretested, and administered to students enrolled in their final year of study at one of the nine schools with state board approved programs for Registered Nurse licensure. The interview schedule included questions relating …
The Development Of Validated Metric Teaching Materials : Length, Joanne Parry Dankey
The Development Of Validated Metric Teaching Materials : Length, Joanne Parry Dankey
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of the present study was to develop a Metric Length self-instructional program to teach adult male and female consumers how to use the meter, the basic unit of length in the metric system. The goal of the project was to create a self-paced program containing instructional materials that were totally individualized. The researcher chose this approach because adult education programs have found individualized instruction to be very effective. Self-instructional programming has been found to be effective for mastery level learning. The goal of this program is to help consumers think metric and to use these units in their …

Edge Detection And Adjacency Classification In Digital Data Via The Gradient Vector, Michael John Russell
Edge Detection And Adjacency Classification In Digital Data Via The Gradient Vector, Michael John Russell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Detection of edges in imagery represented by the matrix of data and classification of the data surrounded by an edge are investigated. An edge detection algorithm is developed and used to locate edges in digitized imagery. An algorithm called the adjacency classifier is developed to classify all groups in adjacent data points that are surrounded by edges. These two algorithms incorporate three important characteristics of the gradient vector: high gradients are inherent at edges, low gradients are inherent at edges, low gradients are inherent within homogeneous objects and gradient vector directions are perpendicular to the edge direction. Computer programs which …

Development Of An Inventory To Measure Attitudes Of Adolescents Toward The Elderly, Julie A. Gullickson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The initial intent of the study was to measure adolescent attitudes toward the elderly by using an inventory that had previously been developed by authorities in the field. As a result of clarifying attitudes toward the elderly, innovative and successful classroom experiences to change any negative attitudes toward the aged could be developed. No satisfactory inventory could be found. For this reason the purpose of this study was to develop an inventory to measure attitudes of adolescents toward the elderly. An inventory of this type would help teachers to determine the feelings of students about people who are in the …
