Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to examine the test performance of five randomly selected groups of 1978 students on five different versions of the Stanford Achievement Test. Three types of comparisons were made. First, the test scores of the five groups of 1978 students in grade 8.1 were compared with each other on the 1929, 1940, 1952, 1964, and 1973 Stanford Achievement Tests. Second, the test scores of each 1978 test group were compared with the test scores of the 8.1 normlng group for each test. Last, the test scores of 1978 students were compared with the test scores …

Attitudes Toward Items In The Professional Negotiation Process As Expressed By Kentucky School Board Chairpersons And Teacher Association Presidents, William A. Bell
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Purpose of Study. Disagreement was prevalent as American school boards and teacher associations attempted to reach consensus on what items should be negotiated at the collective bargaining table. This struggle to reach consensus clearly suggested an uncompromising need for additional research related to this perplexing problem. The purpose of this study was to identify and analyze those items in educational collective negotiations that Here viewed by Kentucky school board chairpersons and Kentucky teacher association presidents as negotiable items suitable for the negotiation process.(Abstract shortened.)

A Comparison Of Cheddar Cheese Yields And Composition Using Conventional Bulk Set Cultures And Superstart Concentrated Cultures, William J. Kipp
A Comparison Of Cheddar Cheese Yields And Composition Using Conventional Bulk Set Cultures And Superstart Concentrated Cultures, William J. Kipp
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The cheese industry has become by far the largest user of milk for manufacturing. In 1978, cheese production utilized a fourth of the total market supply of milk, up from less than an eighth in 1960 (4). Rising consumer incomes and changing lifestyles and eating habits have increased cheese consumption and sales by 60% since 1960 (21). In the last ten years, annual per capita consumption of cured cheese has increased from 11.6 lb to 17.1 lb (45). Economists state that the cheese market will continue to expand through the 1980's (7, 21, 68). Manufacturing cultured dairy products can be …
A Geographic Investigation Of Selected Historical Winter Weather Patterns In Eastern South Dakota, November 1959-April 1978, Douglas Edward O'Neill
A Geographic Investigation Of Selected Historical Winter Weather Patterns In Eastern South Dakota, November 1959-April 1978, Douglas Edward O'Neill
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study centers on winter snowfall and storms in eastern South Dakota. The main purpose of this study in to determine the snowfall patterns and their movements from 1959 through 1978 in eastern South Dakota. The specific 19 year period was selected due to the initiation of the publication of Storm Data, a monthly document printed by National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association (NOAA), which deals solely with storms (of all types) by individual states. With the data for snowstorms or heavy snowfall being provided in Storm Data an accurate cross check with South Dakota Climatological Data was achieved to determine …
Enhancement Of Flameless Atomic Absorption Determination Of Tellurium In Botanical Materials By Means Of Solvent Extraction, Jeffrey D. Jung
Enhancement Of Flameless Atomic Absorption Determination Of Tellurium In Botanical Materials By Means Of Solvent Extraction, Jeffrey D. Jung
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The use of sodium diethyldithiocarbamate and ammonium iodide as complexing agents for the extraction of tellurium from botanical materials is investigated. Flameless atomic absorption spectrophotometry is used as the method of analysis. The acids used to wet ash the samples are examined for their contribution to interferences in the extraction and analysis processes. The extract ion parameters needed for complete extraction of the tellurium are described. The instrument parameters required for the most precise and accurate analysis of tellurium are described. The two extract ion processes are compared to determine which method is more suitable for the extract ion of …
Effect Of Sodium Sulfate, Calcium Level And Source And Phosphorus On The Potentiation Of Chlortetracycline And Performance Of Growing Pigs, John P. Balios
Effect Of Sodium Sulfate, Calcium Level And Source And Phosphorus On The Potentiation Of Chlortetracycline And Performance Of Growing Pigs, John P. Balios
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Experiments designed to study the potentiation of antibiotic in swine were conducted over a two-year period. During the two years, 344 crossbred pigs were used in three separate experiments to study the effects of calcium sources and levels, sulfate sources and levels, and phosphorus levels in diets containing different levels of chlortetracycline. The first experiment was divided into three two-periods. During the first two weeks 50 g/ton of chlortetracycline in the diets increased gain of pigs from 0.68 to 0.72 kg. per day. Pigs fed diets containing chlortetracycline gained significantly faster when the source of calcium was sulfate rather than …

Selected Socio-Demographic Factors Associated With Fertility Change In South Dakota, 1960-1970, John M. Butterbrodt
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The objectives of this study are as follows:
1. To measure the direction and magnitude of the changes occurring between 1960 and 1970 in the fertiity of South Dakota women.
2. To compare the changes occurring in the fertility of South Dakota women with the fertility changes occurring among women nationally and regionally.
3. To analyze the extent to which changes in fertility among South Dakota women were associated with changes in selected sociodemographic factors.
The Effect Of Sodium Hexametaphosphate On Cottage Cheese Yields, Stephen T. Dybing
The Effect Of Sodium Hexametaphosphate On Cottage Cheese Yields, Stephen T. Dybing
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A major concern in the cottage cheese industry is the inefficient use of the available milk proteins. Currently, the methods of cottage cheese manufacture convert an average of only 74.9% of the milk proteins into cottage cheese, while the remainder are removed in the by-product whey (43, 56). As protein is the main determinant of both the yield and nutritional value of cottage cheese, if 25% of the available protein is lost to the whey, then potential cottage cheese yield and nutrition have been lost as well. The proteins lost in the whey are mainly -lactalbumin and β-lactoglobulin, which remain …

A Profile Of Women In Broadcasting In South Dakota, Kathy Mitchell Austad
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study is to develop a profile of South Dakota's typical women broadcasters. The profile will report how long they have worked in broadcasting, what their age was when they started in the industry, how many stations they have worked for, if their previous job was in broadcasting, if they were living in the present town before they took their current job, how they first heard about the opening for their position, and why they entered the broadcasting profession. The study is also an attempt to find out the attitudes of women in broadcasting toward job performance, …
Drying Of Large Cylindrical Bales With A Solar Energy Intensifier-Thermal Energy Storage System, Jose L. Calle
Drying Of Large Cylindrical Bales With A Solar Energy Intensifier-Thermal Energy Storage System, Jose L. Calle
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Recent energy conditions have caused a reexamination of the use of solar energy for the drying of agricultural crops. As a result, because of the great importance in developing alternate energy sources as substitutes for conventional energy sources, research was conducted with the following objectives:
1. Test a multi-use solar energy intensifier-thermal energy storage system using various drying systems for a low temperature hay drying application.
2. Evaluate the thermal efficiency in terms of useful energy collected for a solar energy intensifier used to provide supplemental heat to dry hay, under actual climatic conditions.
