The Formulation, Implementation, And Evaluation Of Educational Planning In Public School Districts Of Tennessee, Daniel R. Fielden
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The legislature of the State of Tennessee enacted The Public Education Governance Reform Act of 1984 as the first step in a restructuring and reform program for Tennessee education. One of the major elements of this piece of legislation was that the state board of education would "... develop and maintain current a master plan for the development of public education, grades kindergarten (K) through twelve (12)." A regulation was passed by the Tennessee State Board of Education mandating that each local board of education in the state should develop and implement a five-year educational plan to include a mission …
Cytokines And Ovulation In The Mouse Ovary, Jong G. Kim
Cytokines And Ovulation In The Mouse Ovary, Jong G. Kim
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Ovulation has been hypothesized as an inflammatory process. Interleukin(IL)-1$\alpha$, IL-1$\beta$ and tumor necrosis factor(TNF)-$\alpha$ are potent cytokines produced from macrophages and various other cell types, and are pivotal components of inflammation. Although previous studies have investigated cytokine activities in the reproductive system, there is little information on their precise localization and activities during the periovulatory period. To investigate the role of cytokines in ovulation, experiments were designed to determine the immunohistochemical localization and time specific production of cytokines IL-1 and TNF-$\alpha$ using a mouse model at 36h, 12h, 6h, 2h before ovulation, and at 6h and 18h after ovulation in …

The purpose of this study was to investigate the origin, development, and implementation of the Better Schools Program in Tennessee. Materials were gathered from East Tennessee State University Library, University of Tennessee Library, Walters State Community College Library, Belmont University Library, Tennessee State Library and Archives and Morristown-Hamblen County Library. These materials consisted of government documents, presidential and gubernatorial speeches, audio and video tapes, books, and periodicals. Personal interviews were also collected from two TEA members and seven legislators. The materials were analyzed, and important passages were marked, incorporated into the paper, and documented. The research questions were (1) What …

The Attributes, Teaching Effectiveness, And Educational Commitment Of Part-Time Faculty In North Carolina Community Colleges, Joseph W. Franklin
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study evaluated the attributes, teaching effectiveness and educational commitment of part-time faculty in enrollment-funded community colleges. The Student Instructional Rating instrument was used to measure student perceptions of instructors in the community college. Twenty four community colleges were randomly selected from North Carolina. Within each college, four full-time and four part-time faculty were randomly selected to participate in the study. Attributes of part-time faculty were compared to attributes of full-time faculty. Teaching effectiveness was assessed from dimensions on the Student Instructional Rating instrument. Various dimensions on the SIR including Faculty/Student Interaction, Overall Quality of the Course, Course Difficulty, and …

Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to measure the learning of the specific skills and knowledge as identified by the National Policy Board for Educational Administration during internships of students from universities participating in the Alliance for the Preparation of Educational Leadership. Former interns from Brigham Young University, East Tennessee State University, Florida State University, and Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University, responded to a survey designed to measure the skills and knowledge as defined by the National Policy Board for Educational Administration. Indicators of the domains identified by the National Policy Board for Educational Administration allowed former interns to …
Differential Role Of The Endothelium In Regulating Microvascular Blood Flow, Tao Tang
Differential Role Of The Endothelium In Regulating Microvascular Blood Flow, Tao Tang
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The vascular endothelial cell (EC) plays an important role in regulating vascular tone and local blood flow by sensing chemical and mechanical stimuli on the vascular wall and releasing a host of vasoactive substances upon activations of endogenous or exogenous vasoactive substances. The central hypothesis is that local control of blood now and autoregulatory behavior in the microcirculation is distinctive at different levels of the vasculature and is dependent on the cellular activities of the EC and its interaction with the local environment. The in vivo as well as the ex vivo, flow-controlled preparations of the hamster cheek pouch were …
An Evaluation Of A Pilot Interpretive Program For National Forest Recreation Areas In East Texas, Ronda Elain Sutphen
An Evaluation Of A Pilot Interpretive Program For National Forest Recreation Areas In East Texas, Ronda Elain Sutphen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A visitor survey was conducted at Ratcliff and Double Lake National Forest Recreation Areas to evaluate visitor characteristics and the effectiveness of interpretive services as a management tool. Two hundred eighty-two campers completed the visitor survey. A one hundred percent sample was attempted at both recreation areas every Sunday morning during July and August of 1991. Data from both recreation areas were analyzed and compared in order to determine any significant differences between visitors in each recreation area and also between visitors who attended or did not attend interpretive programs.
Characterization Of The Vasoactivity Of Tachykinins In Isolated Rat Kidney: Functional Studies And In Vitro Receptor Autoradiography, Yuejin Chen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Although tachykinins have potent vascular actions, their effect on renal resistance blood vessels is currently unknown. The vasoactive properties of tachykinins and related analogs were assessed in isolated perfused rat kidney. At a basal perfusion pressure (PP) of 75 $\pm$ 6 mm Hg (n = 5), bolus injections of substance P (SP) had no significant vasoactive effect. Following a sustained increase in baseline PP (134 $\pm$ 10 mm Hg) produced by phenylephrine (1 $\mu$M), SP evoked a dose-dependent increase in PP. The largest dose of SP increased PP by 60 $\pm$ 5 mm Hg. The vasoconstrictor response to SP was …
The National Policy Board Of Educational Administration Competency Skills For School Leaders And Their Relation To Interagency Collaboration, Ellen Stites
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study examines the 21 competency domains of the National Policy Board of Educational Administration (NPBEA) and their importance in a collaborative effort like Cities in Schools (CIS). Marketing Acceptance And Its Relationship To Selected Institutional Characteristics In Higher Education Institutions, Melanie G. Narkawicz
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This study examined the level of acceptance of marketing by colleges and universities in the United States. It was based upon the "Four Stage Model Reflecting the Acceptance of Marketing in Higher Education Institutions" developed by Simmons and Laczniak (1992). The primary purposes of this study were to validate the model and to identify the operational level of marketing acceptance at colleges and universities. Secondary purposes were to determine if the level of acceptance differed according to source of control/affiliation (public v. private), highest level of degree awarded (associate, baccalaureate, master's, doctors), regional location, urban location, and institutional size. Variables …
