Blood Ethoprop Retention And Interaction, Ebenezer Bonsu Asafu-Adjaye
Blood Ethoprop Retention And Interaction, Ebenezer Bonsu Asafu-Adjaye
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
0-ethyl-S, S-dipropyl phosphorodithioate, technically known as Ethoprop, is a newly introduced insecticide-nematicide manufactured by Mobil Corporation. It is applied directly to the soil where it is believed to exercise a broad spectrum, non-fumigant effect. It has good soil movement and residual properties, and has been used to control rootworms, cutworms, ·nematodes, wireworms, flea beetles and symphylans in corn, tobacco, potatoes, peanuts, bananas, and other crops. The uses of ethoprop are primarily agricultural, thus most of the work done on it to elucidate its properties has been in that area. The little research that has been performed on the biological properties …
A Follow-Up Study Of South Dakota State University's Health Physical Education And Recreation Department's Master's Degree Program Graduates From 1955-1980, Byron J. Palsma
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to describe the status of South Dakota State· University's Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department's master's degree program graduates from 1955 to 1980. With the exception of standard record-keeping, the Health, Physical Education and Recreation Department of South Dakota State University has accumulated very little organized information of its master's degree program graduates. Four unpublished master's degree theses written at SDSU, three from the HPER Department and one in the area of journalism, may have indirectly provided some information of these graduates to department personnel. Hill performed a status study of South Dakota State …
Demographic Characteristics Of Donors To South Dakota State University Athletics, Keith Warren Randklev
Demographic Characteristics Of Donors To South Dakota State University Athletics, Keith Warren Randklev
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
While the SDSU Director of Development is responsible for all fund-raising activities involving SDSU, the athletic department's effort is an independent endeavor administered by the athletic director. All activities of the athletic department involving fund-raising are coordinated with those of the Development Office. As the athletic programs continue to feel the effects of inflation and financial demands continue to sap the athletic budget, fund-raising efforts for athletics remain vital. Efforts for voluntary financial support have become more competitive on our society. Fundraising has been recognized as a big business that demands a well-planned, forward-moving program that is constantly being re-evaluated …
A Short-Run Economic Analysis Of Some Factors Influencing The Supply Of Beef-Cattle At Auctions In South-Eastern Botswana, 1976-1980, Kene Patrick Cyril Sinombe
A Short-Run Economic Analysis Of Some Factors Influencing The Supply Of Beef-Cattle At Auctions In South-Eastern Botswana, 1976-1980, Kene Patrick Cyril Sinombe
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Auction sales provide a major cattle marketing outlet for farmers in Botswana. There were 5,740 cattle auctioned in the South-eastern part of Botswana in 1976. This number represented 16% of the total export off-take from the area. The main market outlet for slaughter beef is through direct marketing of cattle to the Botswana Meat Commission (BMC) abattoir. The BMC, an export monopoly beef marketing board, sets prices and cattle buyers country-wide adjust them to derive producer prices, because they finally sell cattle to the BMC. The BMC price plays a major role in deriving producer prices at auction sales yards. …
Radium-226 Detection By Radon Emanation And Rapid Simultaneous Scintillation Counting Methods, Richard Dean Wittmeier
Radium-226 Detection By Radon Emanation And Rapid Simultaneous Scintillation Counting Methods, Richard Dean Wittmeier
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Since its beginning the universe has been contaminated with a host of radioactive isotopes. Of these radioactive isotopes, many have completely decayed away due to their short half-lives. The remaining naturally occurring isotopes are members of long decay chains such as uranium-238, uranium-235 and thorium-232. The natural background radiation in the environment is primarily due to the decay of these remaining isotopes. This background radiation is normally harmless to the existance of life unless concentrated amounts are received. Because of its chemical compatibility with calcium, radioactive radium isotopes are the most health hazardous of all naturally occurring isotopes. Radium chemically …

Rainbow Trout Production And Water Quality In Eastern South Dakota Dugouts, William Lee Vodehnal
Rainbow Trout Production And Water Quality In Eastern South Dakota Dugouts, William Lee Vodehnal
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Nine-hundred-fifty-four rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) were stocked into 18 eastern South Dakota dugouts in April 1980 to determine the feasibility of dugouts for raising annual fish crops. Trout growth was compared between dugouts by stocking rate (1977/ha, 1483/ha, 988/ha, and 494/ha) and feeding combination [fathead minnows (Pimephales promelas) and supplemental feed, supplmental feed, and trout alone]. Chemical physical properties were also monitored in an old and new unstocked dugouts from July 1980 to July 1981. Growth was greater for 988/ha rainbow trout than the other stocking densities during the April 1980 to July 1980 sampling period. Mean total length increased …

Growth, Food Habits, And The Relative Effectiveness Of Stocking Rainbow Trout (Salmo Gairdneri) In South-Central South Dakota, Kenneth C. Clodfelter
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The effectiveness of stocking rainbow trout (Salmo gairdneri) in 47 selected stock ponds in south-central South Dakota was analyzed in 1977 and 1978. Rainbow trout were captured in 31 (66.0%) ponds during the study. Twenty-five of the 31 ponds (80.6%) appeared to have excellent rainbow trout populations. Rainbow trout stocked in ponds with a resident largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides) population had poor survival. The growth rates and condition factors for 93 and 463 rainbow trout in 1977 and 1978, respectively, were excellent. The average total length for age-groups I and II rainbow trout in 1977 was 195 and 224 mm, …

The Hamstring-Quadricep Strength Ratio Of College-Age Females, Roderick G. Moore Ii
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The purpose of this study was to describe the hamstring-quadricep strength ratio, as attained through isokinetic measurement, among eighteen to twenty-two year old female subjects. More specifically, the purpose of the study was to answer the following questions: 1. What is the hamstring-quadricep strength ratio of eighteen to twenty-two year old females as determined by isokinetic testing? 2. How does the hamstring-quadricep strength ratio for females, as determined in the present study, compare to the hamstring-quadricep strength ratio for males of similar age, as determined by isometric testing in previous studies? 3. Is there a significant difference between the hamstring-quadricep …
Dye Marking Of Antibiotics Used In Treatment Of Mastitis In Dry And Lactating Cows, Richard A. Ellefson
Dye Marking Of Antibiotics Used In Treatment Of Mastitis In Dry And Lactating Cows, Richard A. Ellefson
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Mastitis is the one major disease affecting dairy cows; considerable direct and indirect economic losses can be attributed to mastitis (6). Treatment of mastitis with antibiotic preparations will alleviate most disease symptoms. Problems may arise when cows treated with antibiotics have their milk used for commercial milk processes before antibiotics are clear. They are: 1) some people are allergic to penicillin, and 2) cultured dairy products may not grow because of inhibition. The Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act established that milk and milk products containing antibiotics are considered adulterated. Due to recent innovations in antibiotics testing The National Conference on …

Sixty-four Holstein calves were used in a 3 x 2 factorial experiment of 12 wk to evaluate growth performance when fed control, high starch, and high fat pelleted diets separately or with a supplemental concentrate mix offered the first 6 wk. High starch and high fat diets were formulated to .contain more digestible energy than the control diet. Calves received milk the first 5 wk, plus one of the above rations ad libitum wk 1 thru 12. The control diet contained corn, oats, and soybean meal; the high starch diet contained corn and soybean meal; while the high fat diet …
Use Of Dry Whey And Lactose Hydrolysis In Yogurt Bases, Nagendra P. Shah
Use Of Dry Whey And Lactose Hydrolysis In Yogurt Bases, Nagendra P. Shah
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Yogurt is one of the oldest and most traditional fermented dairy products. Since early times it has been an important food item of the people in the Middle East. Except for its refreshing taste and wholesomeness as a food, no special virtues were claimed for it until early in the 20th century when the bacteriologist, Elie Metchnikoff, who shared a Nobel Prize in 1908, concluded from his studies on the effect of lactic acid bacteria of the digestive tract, that yogurt arrests putrefaction in the intestinal tract and thus might be beneficial to health (55). Attempts to popularize yogurt in …
