The performance of regulatory analysis on commercial products is an important consumer service. The current regulatory method for phosphorus analysis in fertilizers is very time consuming and laborious. Because of the high price of fertilizers it is necessary to compare the indicated level of phosphorus and actual level in fertilizer sample. The analysis of fertilizer samples assures the farmer that he will be receiving a fair value for his money. The ideal method would be one which is accurate, fast, precise and less expensive. Non-Game Bird Habitat Associated With Haul Roads And Surface Mining For Bentonite Clay, Tim A. Schaid

A 2 year study was conducted to investigate possible differences in density and diversity of birds in relation to distance from mining haul roads and various aged mine spoils. Winter bird surveys and breeding bird counts were conducted during 1977 and 1978. Bird density and diversity were estimated and compared between the following habitat areas: old spoils (mined ≥20 years ago, unreclaimed), new spoils (mined ≤20 years ago, reclaimed) and unmined areas. Within unmined areas density and diversity of birds 100m, 300m, 500m, and 900m from a mining haul road were compared to detect differences in density and diversity with …

Solvent Extraction Of Chromium By Salicylic, Thiosalicylic, And Phthalic Acids, Dennis G. Sebastian

The use of salicylic, thiosalicycle, and phthalic acids as chelating agents for the extraction of Cr(III) from aqueous solution was investigated. Normal butanol was selected as a solvent due to its relatively low solubility in the aqueous phase. Heating of the metal-ligand mixture was necessary to accelerate complex formation. The efficiency of the extraction process was found to be dependent upon pH, heating duration, and the choice of buffer systems. The % extraction was reduced using some buffer systems due to the formation of non-extractable complexes with chromium. A potassium hydrogen phthalate buffer system was found to yield the highest …
