Selected Traits For Predicting Success In Football As Determined By College Football Coaches, Dennis Waldon Van Berkum Jan 1975

Selected Traits For Predicting Success In Football As Determined By College Football Coaches, Dennis Waldon Van Berkum

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Football on the college and university level has become more complex. As innovations in strategies and techniques continue to emerge, players with more highly developed abilities are being sought by coaches. Knute Rockne emphasized the significance of the task of player selection when her stated: “A coach and his system are as good as his players…and not an iota better. Give me great players and they can win without a system. Bad ones can’t win with the best tutoring in the world.” The popularity of modern football has attracted large numbers of athletes to the sport, thus compounding the problem …

The Development Of Validated Metric Teaching Materials: Basics, Barbara Vanhove Hoff Jan 1975

The Development Of Validated Metric Teaching Materials: Basics, Barbara Vanhove Hoff

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The purpose of this study was to develop a “Basic Metric” self-instructional programs for use by female adult consumers who wish to learn to use the metric measurements. Such a study was not conceived as an experimental or descriptive type of research but rather as a creative project in which innovative teaching materials are developed. Although the creative element is of major importance, the use of programming required a scientific procedure for developing the teaching materials. The sequence of steps in programming is similar to the steps advocated by systems designers. Field testing of teaching materials was a second purpose. …

Studies Of The White Pelican In South Dakota: Reproductive Biology Of Wild Populations And Effects Of Polychlorinated Biphenyls And Ddt On The Behavior Of Penned Birds, Vernon Pat Mccrow

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The learning behavior of penned white pelicans (Pelecanus erythrorhynchos) was studies 2 August to 5 October 1972 using a swimming pool – Y-maze apparatus in an operant conditioning experiment. The experiment consisted of three consecutive phases: trial-and-error learning, extinction, and relearning. Three groups of nine pelicans each were studied: a polychlorinated biphenyl (PCE) treated group, a DDT, DDD, DDE treated group, and a Control group. The object of this study was to determine the effect of PCB and DDT, DDD, DDE on the learning ability of penned white pelicans. Control, PCB, and DDT groups of penned white pelicans learned to …

Development Of A Simulation Game In The Area Of Housing, Beverlee Olson Buenning Jan 1974

Development Of A Simulation Game In The Area Of Housing, Beverlee Olson Buenning

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

This study focused on the development of a simulation game to teach certain aspects of housing. Underlying the development of the game was the assumption that a simulation game can be an effective teaching technique. The development of the game involved the use of a simulation design: objectives and generalizations for housing, questions that required decision-making, and designing a game board. More precise objectives were (1) to gain information about simulation gaming, particularly current research in the area of gaming in home economics, and (2) to develop a game for use in teaching specific behavioral objectives in the area of …

A Study Of Selected Objective Factors In College Basketball And Their Relationship To Team Success, Richard M. Dohrer Jan 1974

A Study Of Selected Objective Factors In College Basketball And Their Relationship To Team Success, Richard M. Dohrer

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The primary purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between selected components of basketball and winning. Winning was analyzed in three ways: by total points scored, point spread, i.e., difference in points between the losing and winning teams, and final won-loss percentage within the North Central Intercollegiate Athletic Conference. A secondary purpose of this study was to develop regression equations to predict total points scored, point spread, and final won-lost percentage on the basis of the correlations with the independent variables and the intercorrelations between the independent variables. 1. There is no significant statistical relationship between the selected …

Consumer Installment Loan Risk: A Discriminant Analysis, Ronald Edward Fisher Jan 1974

Consumer Installment Loan Risk: A Discriminant Analysis, Ronald Edward Fisher

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

All lending institutions are faced with the fact that a portion of their outstanding loans will not be repaid. A loan officer, or other designated individual, is normally charged 'it h the responsibility of evaluating loan applicants in terms of their comparative risks in order to reduce this inherent cost of doing business. The loan officer has traditionally evaluated consumer installment loan applicants using the three C's rule: character, collateral and capacity to repay, as his guideline for evaluating risk. The information required for this type of evaluation came from the data on the loan application, a credit check and …

Development Of A Control System For Positioning The Centerbody In A Choked Inlet, John Jacob Jibben Jan 1974

Development Of A Control System For Positioning The Centerbody In A Choked Inlet, John Jacob Jibben

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Since the introduction of high bypass ratio turbofan engines, the noise problem from aircraft shifted primarily from jet noise to noise of turbomachine origin. The present dominant noise source is the inlet noise generated by the first compressor stage (or the fan). Acoustic liners to reduce this noise have met with only limited success since the noise reduction to cost ratio is quite low. There are also many technical problems with acoustic liners that are not completely solved. Another method is by means of the choked inlet. This device simply accelerates the air to sonic velocities in the opposite direction …

The Probability Of A Basketball Rebounding In Specific Areas After A Missed Shot Is Taken From A Certain Area, James Egge Jan 1974

The Probability Of A Basketball Rebounding In Specific Areas After A Missed Shot Is Taken From A Certain Area, James Egge

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

Rebounding in basketball has always been of concern and importance to coaches at all levels of competition. The collection of data concerning on-the-court performance of basketball players has increased greatly during the past twelve years; however, only limited rebounding statistics have appeared in recent studies. Allsen concluded that shots attempted from the right side have a tendency to rebound to the middle and right side. On the other hand, when shots were attempted from the left side a greater percentage of missed shots rebounded to the right side or middle area of the court. In Allsen's study there was equal …

A System To Measure Thermal Resistivity Of Soils, Steven F. Oakland Jan 1974

A System To Measure Thermal Resistivity Of Soils, Steven F. Oakland

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

A transient heat-flow, cylindrical-probe method for measuring thermal resistivity of &oils in situ is investigated. The theory of conduction of heat in a medium containing a cylindrical heat source is studied in detail. Effects of finite probe radius, length, and thermal conductivity are investigated and minimized. The effect of thermal contact-resistance at the probe surface is also studied. Errors in measurements of samples of finite dimensions are considered. An electronic system which uses the cylindrical-probe method to measure thermal resistivity of soils is described. Results are given for the use of the system in the measurement of thermal resistivity of …

Energy Sources In Starter Diets For Early Weaned Pigs, Leon Jon Reiner Jan 1974

Energy Sources In Starter Diets For Early Weaned Pigs, Leon Jon Reiner

Electronic Theses and Dissertations

The swine industry is largely dependent upon feed grains as major dietary ingredients because of the very limited ability or the pig to utilize roughages. The dependence upon feed grains puts the pig in direct competition with humans for available food supplies. Grains are an excellent source of carbohydrate but in general are a poor supplier or protein. Raising the level and quality or protein in corn and oats wou1d be of great economic and nutritional value. New uses of high protein ingredients, which were once used as supplementa1 protein for swine, are continually being implemented to help meet the …
