Prevalence Of Listeria Monocytogenes In A Bovine Associated Environment, Verne D. Brakke
Prevalence Of Listeria Monocytogenes In A Bovine Associated Environment, Verne D. Brakke
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Listeria monocytogenes has emerged into the realm of disease causing bacteria as a pathogen of public health importance. Its opportunistic and ubiquitous nature has led to an ever increasing number of case reports implicating this organism in human and animal disease. Following its discovery Listeria has been observed in many countries from the tropics to the arctic (6). In addition to human subjects, Listeria has been found with a very wide host range which includes 37 mammals, 17 fowls, ticks, fish, crustaceans, silage, soil, dust, slaughter house waste, stream water, sewage and mud.

Ridge Vent And Wind Direction Effects On Airflow Characteristics In A Model Open Front Beef Building, Robert K. Egan
Ridge Vent And Wind Direction Effects On Airflow Characteristics In A Model Open Front Beef Building, Robert K. Egan
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
Ridge vent design and building orientation with respect to predominating winds are two primary factors influencing the effectiveness of natural ventilation. Research concerning ridge vent design and building orientation as a means of optimizing natural ventilation is inconclusive and incomplete. Therefore, a model study was conducted to study ventilation characteristics of a model open front beef confinement unit with the following objective: 1) Evaluate the effects of ridge vent design and wind direction on air flow characteristics and temperature in a model of an open front beef building. 2) Develop prediction equations for the relationship between wind velocity and outlet …
Soil Salinity, Sodium Levels, And Corn Production As Affected By Rates Of Applied Beef Wastes, James L. Halbeisen
Soil Salinity, Sodium Levels, And Corn Production As Affected By Rates Of Applied Beef Wastes, James L. Halbeisen
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
In order to establish relationships between beef waste application rates on the land and its effect on soil, an experiment was conducted at the Southeast South Dakota Experiment Farm. Beef steers were fed to a finished market weight from approximately 200 kg (441 lb) with a typical beef finishing ration which varied only in sodium chloride content among the treatments and spread at various rates on the soil. The objectives of this investigation were: 1) to establish a beef waste application rate on dryland that will permit crop production without excessive salt or sodium accumulation in the soil and 2) …
Design, Construction And Testing Of An Animal Operated Device For Coordinated Feeding Of Liquid Supplement And Granular Material To Cattle, David B. Goos
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
The objectives of the project were established as follows: 1. Design, develop, and construct an animal operated device to coordinate the feeding of grain and liquid protein supplement of cattle. 2. Test the operation and performance of the feeding device under laboratory and actual feeding conditions. 3. Investigate individual animal participation in the use of the feeding device. 4. Analyze the economic feasibility of the animal operated device compared with current pasture supplementation systems.
Bentonite Or Sodium Bicarbonate In High-Concentrate Lamb Diets, Gerald Bruce Huntington
Bentonite Or Sodium Bicarbonate In High-Concentrate Lamb Diets, Gerald Bruce Huntington
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
A rapid change of ruminants from high-roughage diets, often used in background feeding programs, to high-concentrate diets used in the finishing phase tends to promote various digestive tract disorders. A major change in diets gradually made over a period of 3 to 4 weeks generally allows time for the rumen microflora to become adapted to the new conditions and minimizes digestive problems. However, performance during this period is often unsatisfactory. In the short-term feedlot finishing of ruminants for slaughter, the importance of profitable weight gains during the initial adaptation phase of the feeding period becomes relatively more important. Methods of …
Free Will And Destiny In Chaucer, Irvine Lee Patten
Free Will And Destiny In Chaucer, Irvine Lee Patten
Electronic Theses and Dissertations
This short comparison of a very old and a very new philosophy has been by way of introduction to my own topic, in a study which I hope will demonstrate some important aspects of how we have examined the extent of own responsibility in shaping our fate. My focus will be on the late Middle Ages and specifically on three of Chaucer’s works as they are borrowed in plot and character from Boccaccio, and how they are reworked to show the importance of moral self-determination. These works are Troilus and Creseyda, The Knight’s Tale, and The Monk’s Tale as they …
