Shame is a common experience for all humans. When shame is high for an individual, it can be debilitating and even paralyzing for that person. Shame can have a negative effect on how a person feels about oneself, destroy relationships, and lead to mental health disorders. In the counseling office, shame can delay or interfere with mental health care and create a barrier in the therapeutic alliance. Shame is often about being seen and tied to a distressing secret one holds. With the increase of online communication, people have become more comfortable sharing in a digital format. The purpose of …

Preaching by far is the primary tool used within the Body of Christ to spread the gospel throughout the world and draw people to the ecclesia (church). For centuries the fundamental approach to heralding the Word of God has been rooted in expository preaching. This theologically sound approach has been shadowed by the rise of the Charismatic Movement and its preaching. Therefore, this thesis project study foci will be on "Charismatic and Expository Preaching: A Case Study of Two Preaching Methods within the Local Church." This study is necessary to determine if these two forms of preaching can co-exist or …

This study intends to discover and evaluate positive and negative relationships that music educators experience while teaching in rural educational settings and to discover if broader community involvement can help mitigate resource reductions. Influences such as the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) and Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) have accelerated reductions in music programs. The purpose of the investigation is to recognize the feasibility of rural music educators leveraging increased support through community involvement to benefit their local music programs and students. The study's focus is twofold: first, to discover and examine what causes rural music educators to not participate …

The Relationship Between Teachers' Experience And Their Self-Efficacy Regarding The Implementation Of Self-Regulated Learning Practices, Latoya Deonta Lewis-Frazier
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Twenty-first century learners are growing in a world of rapid change that requires them to be lifelong learners. Due to the uncertainties of the future, education must shift to meet the needs of the new generation. Literature revealed that self-regulated learners have the capabilities of holding themselves accountable for their learning and adjusting to new environments. Thus, the purpose of the proposed study was to explore if there is a relationship between teachers’ years of experience and their self-efficacy toward implementing self-regulated learning practices. A quantitative correlation research design was used to determine if the two variables share a relationship. …

Traditionally, military leaders accentuate military skill development over developing the moral character of soldiers. However, researchers have made recommendations to investigate components of sportsmanship with the intent to align better with the goals of other development programs that seek to promote character. The purpose of this quantitative, correlational design study was to use a multiple linear regression on an archival data set of Character in Sport Index scores to determine if the linear combination of the variables class, age, type of sport, and gender have predictive significance for Character in Sport Index scores. Subjects included 8,701 cadets between the ages …
The Effects Of Technology Integration On Avid Students Compared To Other Middle School Students, Kathy Veronica Hardy
The Effects Of Technology Integration On Avid Students Compared To Other Middle School Students, Kathy Veronica Hardy
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Student disengagement in the learning process is problematic, especially in the middle grades. Studies show that technology infusion in classroom instruction promotes student learning and behavior when effectively integrated. Employing the theory of constructivism, this study explored technology infusion in a college and career readiness program based on the assumption that integration aids in the construction of knowledge. The purpose of this study was to analyze the difference between the performance scores of AVID and non-AVID groups in middle schools. Archived test results for the Preliminary Scholastic Achievement Test (PSAT) were compared on a sample of non-AVID and AVID middle …
Military Veteran's Therapy Experiences For Combat Trauma, Laurie Gramlich Parker
Military Veteran's Therapy Experiences For Combat Trauma, Laurie Gramlich Parker
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Military veterans frequently return from combat with a diagnosis of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The debilitating disorder is often caused by experiencing trauma caused by war related distressing events. There are various clinical treatment modalities offered to help PTSD injured veterans. Despite numerous options, however, many military personnel receive little or no clinical relief after attending counseling. Moral Injury (MI) is often the underlying culprit, yet due to a lack of clinical clarity and understanding about the MI paradigm, many therapists use a catchall diagnosis of PTSD when treating combat veterans. The term Moral Injury has its inception as a …

Purging The New Age: A Theological Analysis Of The Use Of New Age Practices By The Church, Christopher Michael Berg
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
This dissertation sets out to demonstrate that Yoga and the Enneagram are not compatible with orthodox Christianity. Additionally, this dissertation will show that all possible attempts at Christianizing these practices ultimately fail due to incompatible underlying philosophies and theologies. In order to accomplish this task, assessment criteria will be developed through a comparison of a subset of evangelical Christian theological topics with their New Age counterparts. These criteria will be used to assess the level of syncretization in each practice as presented by the most popular and prolific Christian practitioners. After assessment, a recommendation will be given concerning each practice’s …

Christian Women's Pornography Usage: The Role Of Perceived Addiction, Social Anxiety, Shame, And Grace, Kathryn Ellen Bohannon
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
For decades, researchers have examined the relationship between pornography use, anxiety, and depression. The emotional component of shame has also been explored in connection with pornography use and other addictive behaviors. Recently, scholars have started to consider how the pornography user’s moral values and religious beliefs influenced their usage and outcome behaviors (Baltazar, Helm, H. W., McBride, Hopkins, & Stevens, J. V., 2010; Bradley, Grubbs, Uzdavines, Exline, & Pargament, 2016; Hook et al., 2015). The advancements in brain research have led to misconceptions in education. These misconceptions, known as neuromyths, can have impacts on the education system. The problem is educators could potentially waste resources on instructional practices or professional development due to neuroscience misconceptions. The purpose of this quantitative correlation study was to determine if there was a relationship between elementary educators’ self-efficacy, curiosity, learning attainment, experience, and the number of neuromythic beliefs. Despite the significant scope and documented challenges facing veterans, few studies have addressed student veteran graduation persistence. A predictive correlation research design was used to analyze the persistence of veteran and non-veteran students in an associate degree program. In this study, community college students’ veteran status (i.e. veteran or non-veteran), enrollment status (part-time or full-time), success in remedial/developmental English (Yes/No pass), and demographic variables, such as gender (male, female, other), race (minority, non-minority), and age, were examined to determine their ability to predict persistence to graduation from associate degree programs. A logistic regression analysis was conducted to examine how persistence …
