Technology Use For Differentiation Of Instruction In Middle School: An Applied Research Study, Cecelia Denise Baggott
Technology Use For Differentiation Of Instruction In Middle School: An Applied Research Study, Cecelia Denise Baggott
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this study was to improve the use of instructional technology in differentiated learning for students at XYZ Middle School and to formulate a solution that encouraged teachers to leverage the benefits associated with using technology to differentiate. In 2016 the school adopted a one-to-one initiative that provided each student with a Chromebook to use at school and home. Since that time, state-mandated testing scores had shown improvement; however, large disparities in those results among various subgroups exposed the need for using the provided technology to differentiate instruction. This research answered the question: How can educators improve the …

The human papillomavirus (HPV) is a prevalent virus and the most common sexually transmitted infection (STI) worldwide. Nearly 80 million people, approximately one in four, are currently infected in the United States (US). Given that HPV infections affects over 20 million Americans with possible life-threatening consequences, the importance of adhering to the recommended two-dose or three-dose vaccination series has a significant impact on cancer prevention. Research studies have suggested that adolescents and young adults are at an increased risk of STIs and low HPV vaccination rates. For this integrative review, the target population was adolescents to young adults, ages 9-26 …

Perceptions Of The Sources Of Self-Efficacy In Special Education Teachers Of Writing: A Phenomenological Study, Jennifer Marlene Ludtke
Perceptions Of The Sources Of Self-Efficacy In Special Education Teachers Of Writing: A Phenomenological Study, Jennifer Marlene Ludtke
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this transcendental phenomenological study was to describe the perceptions of intermediate special education teachers regarding the factors that influence their self-efficacy toward teaching writing to students with disabilities. Students with learning disabilities rank at the bottom of national test scores for writing, resulting in a dire need for increased writing instruction (Institute of Education Sciences, 2011). Special education teachers may struggle to provide adequate writing instruction because of a lack of training, resources, support, or low self-efficacy (Graham, 2019; Hodges et al., 2019; Risko & Reid, 2019). Teacher self-efficacy influences student self-efficacy and positive student outcomes (Bandura, …

Veterans treatment courts are designed to help justice-involved veterans break their criminogenic cycle, but the VTC’s efficacy is still debated. Yet, when applied to other modalities, transformative learning has proven effective in changing counter-societal behavior. The guiding theory for this study is Mezirow’s theory of transformative learning, one of the premiere adult learning theories, and will be used as the rubric to evaluate if veteran transformative learning indeed occurs. The central …

A Phenomenological Study Of How English Teachers' Beliefs Affect Their Grammar Instruction, Athena Pualeilani Jackson
A Phenomenological Study Of How English Teachers' Beliefs Affect Their Grammar Instruction, Athena Pualeilani Jackson
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this phenomenological study was to describe how beliefs about grammar affected the grammar instruction of 10 high school English teachers in central Florida. Fishbein and Ajzen’s (2010) theory of reasoned action guided the study since the theory shows the relationship between beliefs and actions. A phenomenological design with a transcendental approach was used, and data was collected through three methods: interviews, observations, and participant reflections. Data was analyzed according to Moustakas’ (1994) steps for data analysis. Data analysis included horizonalization, theme development, textural descriptions, structural descriptions, composite descriptions, and a synthesized essence of the experience. Many participants …
