Actions Of The Principal: Influences On Teacher Self-Efficacy And Motivation, Amanda Maslen Conner
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Classroom teachers are a significant influence on student achievement. Numerous studies indicate that teacher motivation and self-efficacy influence their effectiveness in the classroom. Furthermore, studies indicate that the leadership behaviors of the principal can influence the school culture and have a direct impact on teacher motivation and self-efficacy. This study sought to determine if a relationship exists between certain behaviors of administrators and a teacher's self-efficacy and motivation. The study used a correlational design using The Teacher Motivation & Job Satisfaction Survey (TMJSS), The Teachers’ Sense of Efficacy Scale (TSES), and the Leadership Practices Inventory (LPI). A Phenomenological Study Of One-To-One Paraeducators' Self-Efficacy In Self-Contained Special Education Programs, Deborah Schloemer-Frazer
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The purpose of this qualitative transcendental phenomenological study was to describe the lived experiences and self-efficacy of one-to-one paraeducators assisting high school students with disabilities in self-contained classrooms. The theory guiding this study is Bandura's social cognitive theory, which describes self-efficacy. Self-efficacy is a person's belief in their ability to complete a designated task (Bandura, 1997a). Bandura purports that there are four elements that contribute to one's self-efficacy: performance outcomes, vicarious experience, verbal persuasion, and physiological and affective state (Bandura, 1997b). In this phenomenological study, eleven one-to-one paraeducators within one school district in western Washington participated in interviews, focus groups, …

An Empirical Study Of The Relationship Between Organizational Commitment, Employee Voice Behavior, And Psychological Well-Being Among Employees Within Mid-Size Service, Katelin Barron
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Employee Psychological Well-Being (PWB) is a pertinent factor that impacts organizational effectiveness. There remained ample evidence of the various antecedents that impacted employees’ PWB. One core concept of maintaining a relationship with PWB is an employee’s organizational commitment. However, little was known about how an employee can further promote their PWB through voice behavior. Noting the importance of PWB, it was pertinent that a particular stream of research addressed the gap and examined the extent to which the three types of employee organizational commitment (e.g., normative commitment, affective commitment, and continuance commitment) correlated with the two types of employee’s voice …

Lmx, Leadership Style, And Retention In Southeastern Pennsylvania Social Services Organizations, David William Schlosser
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Organizations deal with employee retention (e.g., retaining employees, stemming attrition, mitigating intent to leave an organization) in a number of ways. Examining the relationship one has with his/her manager, and the leadership style of one’s manager, are valuable factors in retaining employees. LMX (leader-member exchange) is the quality of relationship between leaders/managers and members/employees and is based on trust and reciprocity between parties. Passive leaders avoid management issues and only act when they have no other choices. Transactional leaders are exchange-based individuals that provide rewards (e.g., compensation) in exchange for work completed by employees. Transformational leaders go beyond this and …

Remote patient monitoring (RPM), especially with continuous vital sign monitoring (CVM) is one method that could reduce readmission rates. The purpose of this integrative review is to determine whether RPM could be used to reduce emergency department and 30-day readmission visits for Medicare part A skilled nursing patients. Modeling And Simulating Brain Damage From Football Helmet Impacts, Tate Russell Fonville
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
The objective of this research was to present a model for brain damage to investigate the head’s response to mechanical loadings. A Finite Element (FE) head and brain mesh used throughout this dissertation was constructed from Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) scan data of one of the authors and validated in previous research. A computational modal analysis was first conducted on the whole head and an isolated brain to identify the resonant frequencies, mode shapes, and locations. A physics-based Internal State Variable (ISV) constitutive model for polymers was modified to include damage in the form of pore growth. The brain damage …

Integration Of Non-Traditional Students: Comparing Traditional And Non-Traditional Students' Sense Of Belong, Michelle Leeann Walbeck
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
With an ever-increasing number of non-traditional students enrolling each year, the importance of ensuring their academic success falls primarily on the higher education institutions (HEIs). Each institution has its recipe for success and mostly consists of a student success office to assist when non-traditional students begin to show signs of markers for being at-risk. The reactive approach of waiting for students to show signs of struggle is missing the larger picture. The researcher utilized quantitative correlative and predictive correlative studies to determine if a direct correlation existed between non-traditional students’ perceived sense of belonging, which is at the core of …

Disability And Employability: Challenging Stereotypes Through Information And Education, Claire Gallagher Mcelvaney
Doctoral Dissertations and Projects
Individuals with disabilities (IWDs) have had an alarmingly low employment rate despite introduction of the Americans with Disabilities Act and other legislation meant to enable workplace inclusion. Prior research indicated that organizations were willing to hire IWDs but were concerned regarding potential costs and training issues. Because lifelong unemployment has often resulted in segregation and depression for those with disabilities, this research sought to determine if educational intervention, i.e. a presentation designed to address some of the myths regarding costs and …

Cold War Economic Ideology And Us Aid To Taiwan, 1950-1965, Wayne Robert Hugar

This project examines the puzzle of the ideological contradiction for why the United States justified giving large amounts of economic aid intended to develop capitalism and private sector free enterprise for the authoritarian Republic of China (ROC) government’s socialist style public sector economy on the island of Taiwan during the cold war period 1950-1965. The $1.4 billion in US foreign economic aid to the Chinese Nationalist led ROC government in Taiwan during this 15-year period was a seemingly disproportionate amount compared to its small size and type of authoritarian regime compared to other aid recipients. This project appraises the extent …
