The Effects Of Optical Path Perturbations During Recording On A Reconstructed Holographic Image, Stevan Israel Feldman Jun 1976

The Effects Of Optical Path Perturbations During Recording On A Reconstructed Holographic Image, Stevan Israel Feldman

Dissertations

The effects of optical path perturbations occurring during recording on the reconstructed image of a hologram are investigated. It is shown that such variations of optical path are equivalent to conditions of holographic interferometry which can be classified in three categories: 1) object motion alone, 2) film motion alone, and 3) simultaneous film and object motion; all motions are defined with respect to the stationary reference source during the recording of the hologram.

The theory concerning the effects of object motion alone on the radiance distribution of a reconstructed holographic image has already been developed by previous researchers and is …

Distributed Parameter Sensitivity Theory To Solve Certain Reliability Problems, Moses Nee Buernor Ayiku May 1976

Distributed Parameter Sensitivity Theory To Solve Certain Reliability Problems, Moses Nee Buernor Ayiku

Dissertations

It is well known that in actual control systems there are uncontrolled parameter changes caused by aging of elements, temperature, pressure and effects of externalmedium, among others, which may impair the performance ofthe system. Hence, there is the need to develop systems that weakly react to these parameter fluctuations. Sensitivity theory has been developed to study some of these problems. Most of the investigations in this area, however, deal with problems in continuous systems modeled by ordinary differential equations. Even the recent publications on sensitivity problems in distributed parameter control systems are largely concerned with systems modeled by first order …

Preparation And Magnetic Properties Of Rare Earth Garnets And Apatites, Rostam Mondegarian May 1976

Preparation And Magnetic Properties Of Rare Earth Garnets And Apatites, Rostam Mondegarian

Dissertations

It has been found possible to prepare garnets with magnetic trivalent rare earth ions filling all or most dodecahedral sites while nonmagnetic Sc3+ ions fill all octahedral sites and magnetic Fe3+ ions fill all or most tetrahedral sites. Phase-pure garnets found include {RE3-yScy}[Sc2](Fe3)O12, where RE is Sm, Eu, Gd, Tb or Dy and y can be zero with Sm and Eu; {Nd3}[Sc2](FezGa3-z)O12; and other Nd-Sc-Fe garnets of the type {Nd3-(w+y)MwScy}[Sc2](Fe …

Separations Of Multicomponent Mixtures Via Thermal Parametric Pumping, John Daniel Stokes May 1976

Separations Of Multicomponent Mixtures Via Thermal Parametric Pumping, John Daniel Stokes

Dissertations

This dissertation covers the separation of solutes from multicomponent solutions via direct mode thermal parametric pumping.

Dilute solution separations were predicted from existing binary equations by assuming the existence of pseudo binary systems, each system consisting of one solute and the common solvent. Two systems, toluene-aniline-n-heptane and toluene-acetophenone-n-heptane with a silica gel adsorbent were used to experimentally demonstrate the separation. Experimental results were in good agreement with the mathematical predictions.

For concentrated multicomponent solutions, the separation was demonstrated by the system, toluene-acetophenone-n-heptane on silica gel. The effects of mass transfer and nonlinear adsorption isotherms became significant and a numerical solution …

The Leadership Behavior Of Jamaican High School Principals : Perceptions And Expectations Of Teachers And Principals, Nehemiah Mead Jan 1976

The Leadership Behavior Of Jamaican High School Principals : Perceptions And Expectations Of Teachers And Principals, Nehemiah Mead

Dissertations

Problem. This is a study of the leadership behavior of high school principals in Jamaica from the perspective of teachers and the principals themselves. The Ministry of Education in Jamaica concurred with the researcher that valuable insights could be gained from this study which could benefit the development of education in Jamaica. The purpose of this study is to identify the perceptions and expectations relative to Initiating Structure by which principals establish lines of communication and methods of procedure and Consideration by which they establish trust and friendship with their faculties. The transactional model of leadership describes these two dimensions …

The Correlation Of Value Profiles And Vocational Choice, Yew Chong Wong Jan 1976

The Correlation Of Value Profiles And Vocational Choice, Yew Chong Wong

Dissertations

Problem

Both vocational choice and value system development are processes that continue to dominate one's life-style. How do decisions in one area relate to those in the other? This study examined the value patterns held by individuals in different occupational environments, and investigated the relationship between these value patterns and vocational choices.

Method

Rokeach's Value Survey was administered to 180 participants from 49 counties in southern Michigan. Their individual value rankings or profiles were classified according to the occupational environments as defined by Holland's theory of vocational choice. Six aon-parametric statistical techniques— the Kruskal-Wallis one-way ANOVA, the Kendall Coefficient of …

Dimensions Of The Ideal Family As Perceived By Adolescents, Lily Hok-Neo Wong Jan 1976

Dimensions Of The Ideal Family As Perceived By Adolescents, Lily Hok-Neo Wong

Dissertations

Problem

The purpose of this study was to Identify the types of family concept held by different groups of adolescents in thirteen selected high schools in Illinois, Indiana, and Michigan. Could the adolescents' concepts of the ideal family be described in terms of a number of factors? If there were basic factors, how would they compare with those previously identified by van der Veen in his study of disturbed adolescents? Were there differences in the ideal family concept when the adolescents were compared according to grade in school, church membership, sex, race, residential location, and number of parents? With the …
