A College Athletic Department - An Example Of A High Performance System Existing In An Organized Anarchy Known As A University-Higher Education Organization, June Townsend Scopinich Edd

Dissertations

This study investigated an empirical example of a Vaill's high performance system within the university-higher education organization with the purpose of assisting leaders within colleges and universities in having a greater understanding of the organizational structure of their own institutions. The results are analyzed with the prospects of utilizing this information to address such theoretical questions as: how did the athletic department achieve this high level of performance and how was the athletic department able to exist as a high performance system within the university organization? This study, which extended from January, 1986 to May, 1986, was conducted using the …

Executive Effectiveness Profile Instrument Development And Validation, John W. Hanes Edd Jan 1987

Executive Effectiveness Profile Instrument Development And Validation, John W. Hanes Edd

Dissertations

As executives ascend in organizational structures, they become less likely to receive objective feedback from superiors, peers, and subordinates regarding the effects of their behavior within their organizations. This loss of feedback can contribute to perceptual blind spots within the executives. Such blind spots and their ensuing negative consequences have been found to be a major cause of executive derailment. Despite the enormous value of feedback, there is a paucity of proven methodologies for providing executives with constructive feedback on the effectiveness of their behavior. Consequently, the objective of this research was to design and validate an instrument that measures …

Identification Of Key Strategies For School Effectiveness And How They Are Implemented, As Perceived By Administrators And Teachers In Selected Exemplary Private Secondary Schools, Hedley J. Eager

Dissertations

Problem. Educators in the 1970s and early 1980s identified characteristics of effective schools. But researchers had not addressed the problem of identifying what strategies exemplary schools used to make the characteristics effective, nor how the strategies were implemented.

Method. Administrators and teachers in selected exemplary private secondary schools responded to the Quality Schools Index for Private Schools (QSIPS). Key strategies for school effectiveness were ranked on the basis of mean weighted scores for: (a) extent of use of the strategies within the school; and (b) their importance to quality schooling. Selected personnel were interviewed in six schools to determine how …

Design And Analysis Of Efficient Algorithms To Solve The Maximum Concurrent Flow Problem, Farhad Shahrokhi Dec 1986

Design And Analysis Of Efficient Algorithms To Solve The Maximum Concurrent Flow Problem, Farhad Shahrokhi

Dissertations

The maximum concurrent flow (MCFP) is a generalized commodity flow problem, where every pair of entities can send and receive flow Ma85 , BM86 , MS86 . We develop efficient labeling algorithms to solve the MCFP. We explore the combinatorial structure of the MCFP and show that the problem of associating costs (distances) to the edges so as to maximize the minimum cost of routing the concurrent flow is the dual of the MCFP. This duality covers max-flow min-cut theorem as a special case. Applications in packet switched networks At81 and cluster analysis Ma86 are discussed.
