Embedded Ready To Use Hybrid Mesh Network For Iot Applications, Jérôme Elleouet, Emmanuel Helbert

Defensive Publications Series

Gathering data from IoT (Internet of Things) sensors requires a communication infrastructure. This infrastructure could rely on WiFi, LAN or other proprietary networks as well as on mesh networks using any kind of radio technology. Thus, these networks are a prerequisite to conveys this data. In addition, some IoT applications such as asset or human tracking requires a dedicated network of sensors as well. That means that the overall solution requires device provisioning, configuration, installation and maintenance, as well as devices and network planning, leading to huge cost due to manual installation, ad-hoc configuration and maintenance …

Direct I/O Solution For Containerized Hpux, Maheshwara Aithal, Dinesh Thanumoorthy, Harish K

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure relates to the field of hardware emulation solution called c-UX (code named Kiran) which runs HPUX in emulated (Itanium hardware emulation on x86) mode as a futuristic solution for the margin rich UNIX business. The value of containerized HPUX is that it allows customers using legacy HPUX applications to continue running on x86 hardware. c-UX design relies on instruction level emulation which has inherent performance issues. Especially, compute intensive workloads are prone to performance issues while running in emulated environment. However, I/O workloads on such emulated systems can make use of direct device access or device assignment when …

Defensive Publications Series

HPE has positioned containerized solution called c-UX (code named Kiran) which runs HPUX in emulated (Itanium hardware emulation on x86) mode as a futuristic solution for the margin rich UNIX business. The value of containerized HPUX is that it allows customers using legacy HPUX applications to continue running on x86 hardware. Significant effort has been expended to increase the effectiveness of hardware resource utilization on c-UX. The next step in fully optimizing I/O in c-UX environment is to provide truly scalable high-performance, by enabling a single I/O device to provide DMA for multiple VMs. This scalability challenge can be solved …

A Novel Encoding & Alignment Of Histograms Of Referential Integrity Columns For Scalable Data Generation, Suresh Soundararajan Jan 2019

A Novel Encoding & Alignment Of Histograms Of Referential Integrity Columns For Scalable Data Generation, Suresh Soundararajan

Defensive Publications Series

Testing the performance of database management systems is often accomplished using synthetic data and workload generators such as TPCH and TPCC. However most synthetic benchmarks don’t fully match customer database configurations. Customer database configuration data-sets are typically hard to obtain due to their sensitive nature and prohibitively very large sizes. As a result, oftentimes the data management systems are not thoroughly tested, and performance related bugs are commonly discovered after deployment, where the cost of fixing is very high. We propose a scalable data generator called XGen, an approach to generating data-sets out of customer metadata information, including integrity …

Battery Charge Level Based On Power Source Availability, Thierry Strudel Jan 2019

Battery Charge Level Based On Power Source Availability, Thierry Strudel

Defensive Publications Series

Maintaining the voltage of a consumer-device battery at near-maximum levels causes premature battery degradation. If kept fully charged for excessive amounts of time, the battery can swell, damaging the device enclosure and causing safety problems. However, users legitimately fear the draining of device batteries before a power socket is available, and hence keep devices plugged in beyond recommended durations.

The techniques of this disclosure monitor the availability of a power source, and accordingly set the maximum charge level such that battery life is optimized. For example, if power sources are amply available, the maximum allowed charge level is relatively low. …

Heat Removal From High Temperature Hardware While Shielding Electromagnetic Interference, Yao Xue, Eugene Fox Jan 2019

Heat Removal From High Temperature Hardware While Shielding Electromagnetic Interference, Yao Xue, Eugene Fox

Defensive Publications Series

For devices with space constraints or lower heat generating components, connecting the heat generating component to another larger body, such as the enclosure metal, is a common heatsink solution. To ensure that the device antenna can function correctly, electromagnetic noise of the component is usually shielded by encapsulating the component with a grounded metal shield. For efficient heat dissipation, the number of intermediate items in the heat conduction path can be reduced by removing the shield cover or cutting a hole in the shield in order to sandwich a pad of conductive material between the component and the heatsink. While …

Proxy Monitoring Of Session State For Shared Fate Entities, Stefan Olofsson, Khalid Raza Jan 2019

Proxy Monitoring Of Session State For Shared Fate Entities, Stefan Olofsson, Khalid Raza

Defensive Publications Series

By using a general protocol that allows for sharing of bidirectional forwarding detection (BFD) state across a shared path between neighboring routers, scale, simplicity and flexibility in designs may be achieved with at least a 2:1 ratio compared to a traditional implementation. Each participating node hosts BFD sessions that monitor a locally attached link and then shares the state of the BFD sessions to other neighboring nodes, effectively proxying the BFD state for consumption by participating devices in an efficient manner.

In addition, the mass use of smartphones with rear-facing and front-facing cameras gives researchers the opportunity …

Delayed Predicate Algorithm Evaluation In Hybrid Answer Set Programming (Asp), Alex Brik, Jori Bomanson Jan 2019

Delayed Predicate Algorithm Evaluation In Hybrid Answer Set Programming (Asp), Alex Brik, Jori Bomanson

Defensive Publications Series

A hybrid answer set programming (ASP) solver is a logic programming type solver with a variety of applications, e.g., diagnosing software failures, modeling dynamical systems, etc. A hybrid ASP solver finds solutions for hybrid ASP programs, which are sets of hybrid ASP rules. Hybrid ASP rules include stationary rules with associated predicate algorithms and advancing rules with associated advancing algorithms. Solutions to hybrid ASP programs are found iteratively by starting with an initial state and producing consequent states. Part of computing a consequent state involves determination of the stationary rules that are applicable at the consequent state. This in turn …

Sound-Based Classifier For Domain Specific Language Model Selection, Anonymous Jan 2019

Sound-Based Classifier For Domain Specific Language Model Selection, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Providing correct responses to spoken commands issued to voice-activated devices depends on such devices recognizing the commands accurately. General language models that are agnostic to functional domains have lower quality of speech recognition. An automatic speech recognition system described in this disclosure uses a sound-to-domain classifier to determine probabilities that a particular spoken phrase corresponds to particular functional domains. A language model selector picks a combination of domain-specific language models based on the probabilities. Speech recognition is performed using the selected models.

Augmented Reality Dance Instructions, Anonymous Jan 2019

Augmented Reality Dance Instructions, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Users are provided guidance on physical activity such as dance by use of an augmented reality overlay displayed atop a user’s own image. The overlay provides visual instruction, e.g., instruction on how to execute a dance move, to the user. The overlay provides visual feedback to the user on how well the user’s pose or movement matched that of the instruction.

Maximum Power Point Tracking Using Test Cell(S) In Solar Array(S), Anonymous Jan 2019

Maximum Power Point Tracking Using Test Cell(S) In Solar Array(S), Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Solar arrays provide power to loads and are operated at their maximum power point (MPP) to optimize the power output from the solar arrays under various environmental and operating conditions. Maximum power point tracking (MPPT) techniques control operating conditions so that the solar arrays are at or near the MPP. However, MPPT techniques search for the MPP by repeatedly changing the voltage/current load of the solar array, until an operating point is determined that produces the maximum power at a given time. However, the process of repeatedly changing the voltage/current load for the entire array results in the entire array …
