Selective Data Access In Dual-Sim Dual-Standby Devices, Robert Greenwalt, Sooraj Sasindran, Balaji Sampath, Xiangyu Chen, Shivank Nayak
Defensive Publications Series
In dual-SIM dual-standby mobile devices, two protocol stacks share one radio transceiver. Thus, only one SIM can task the radio transceiver at a time, with voice calls having priority over data calls. On such devices, a default data SIM is identified and the other SIM is a voice SIM by default. When using the voice SIM to make a voice call, the radio transceiver is tasked by the voice SIM, and data services, being provided by the other SIM, are suspended. It is advantageous to continue data services in parallel to the voice call. This disclosure describes techniques that enable …

Fingerprint-Matching Algorithms, Firas Sammoura, Kuntal Sengupta, Jean-Marie Bussat
Defensive Publications Series
This publication describes a fingerprint-matching algorithm that uses a fusion of minutiae and pattern-correlation matching. Instead of extracting minutiae points, the algorithm extracts small patches from the fingerprint image and transforms them into rotationally-invariant vectors. The algorithm divides each image to be evaluated, herein called an “enrolled” image, into “M” number of patches with a sliding distance of one (1) pixel. The algorithm also extracts “N” number of random patches from a stored image, herein called a “verify” image, and calculates the similarity between the “verify” rotationally-invariant vectors and the “enrolled” rotationally-invariant vectors. At this stage, the algorithm merges vectors …

Serverless Cybersecurity Training
Serverless Cybersecurity Training
Defensive Publications Series
Training students and professionals in cybersecurity practices is expensive due to the complex laboratory environments required to properly isolate the trainees. Traditional methods include downloading and executing a virtual machine locally or accessing cloud-based virtual machines. In this work, this cost is reduced by obtaining static files from server that cause a user’s browser to execute an HTML5 Service Worker and a Web Worker. The Service Worker intercepts browser requests to one or more domains and redirects them to the Web Worker. The Web Worker, which provides the vulnerable services the trainee interacts with, responds to the user.

Identifying And Correcting An Edge-Fattened Area Generated By Stereo-Matching Techniques, Onur Guleryuz, Ambrus Csaszar
Defensive Publications Series
This publication describes an image-boundary manager used in an image-capture device. The image-boundary manager uses a low-complexity algorithm to compute an edge-fattened area of a foreground object included in an image of a scene generated by the image-capture device. After computing the edge-fattened area of the foreground object, the image-capture manager assigns correct depth values to the edge-fattened area such that the image-capture device renders the foreground object, in a modified image of the scene, accurately and without the edge-fattened area.
An Optimized Producer And Consumer Design Pattern To Control Data Congestion, Hp Inc
An Optimized Producer And Consumer Design Pattern To Control Data Congestion, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
Exponential growth in computer networks has resulted in a tremendous amount of traffic variability in time scales ranging
from a few milliseconds to several hours. This leads to network traffic congestion which, if persistent, could lead to
significant data losses. Congestion losses cannot be avoided by modest increases in buffer capacity, it requires far more
creative solutions. Missing data points can result in misleading inferences which can, in turn, lead to wrong engineering
and/or business decisions. It is therefore important to identify ways to avoid loss of data packets at the receiving end and
thereby ensuring data integrity. Currently available …
