A New Latch Design For Network Equipment, Johnny Chen
A New Latch Design For Network Equipment, Johnny Chen
Defensive Publications Series
Many mechanical parts or modules used in networking equipment need to move or be removable. For example, in a rack server, it is often necessary for the top cover of the server to be removable in order to allow for maintenance, upgrades, and/or the like. A latch is often used to facilitate opening the cover. Existing latching mechanisms for networking equipment are typically off-the-shelf products. Such existing latching mechanisms may have different limitations, such as being able to move in only one direction. Presented herein is a new, innovative latch design that encompasses a new mechanical structure that offers enhanced …

Corporations often seek honest feedback from their employees for different issues, such as changes to benefits, policies, strategies, product designs, etc. However, there are a number of factors that typically prevent employees from providing such feedback—fear of consequences. Many times, processes that are marketed as anonymous may not be totally anonymous such that when employees provide purported "anonymous" feedback, such feedback may not be completely anonymous and can cause employees to lose face with management or senior technical leaders, which can harm their careers. Open group dialog has demonstrated superior results to problems compared to individual inputs. Presented herein is …

Optics Line Quality Prediction Through A Long-Term Trend Inflection, Randy Zhang, Stefano Binetti
Optics Line Quality Prediction Through A Long-Term Trend Inflection, Randy Zhang, Stefano Binetti
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are provided herein for using a long-term trend inflection for optics parameters (such as optics error count) to make event predictions. Different methods (e.g., machine learning) may be used to model the inflection. Short-term or instantaneous optics measurements, such as pre-FEC error count, are often a reflection of instantaneous bursts or drifts and are thus not a reliable indicator for pervasive and inherent connection quality issues. A longer term and continuous trend analysis can better predict connection degradation and failure.

Packet Tracing In Distributed Network Architectures, Gaganjeet Reen, Naveen Gujje, Maneesh Soni, Kaarthik Sivakumar
Defensive Publications Series
In a distributed network architecture, tracking the network function node instances through which a network packet traverses, the time that a packet spends in each of the network functions, and the operations that the functions perform on each packet are extremely important when troubleshooting packet processing issues. However, such distributed architectures often include legacy services which cannot be readily extended (either because of the architecture or because of the programming language used) to include solutions to facilitate the above-described tracing. Techniques are presented herein that support a novel OpenTelemetry-based packet tracing approach that facilitates data plane debugging in a distributed …

Pixel-Based Conversion Gain Selection For Quad-Cell Cmos Image Sensors With Image Calibration And Extended Dynamic Range, Farhad Abbassi Gholmansaraei
Defensive Publications Series
A Quad Bayer pixel structure is the current driving technology in developing high resolution image sensors with smaller pixel pitch. However, by reducing the pixel size the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) and the dynamic range (DR) of an image sensor will be compromised. One of the means to improve the SNR and DR for a quad-cell image sensor or other type of complementary metal-oxide semiconductor (CMOS) image sensor with tiny pixels is to use a dual conversion gain (DCG) approach in a pixel structure where the conversion gain (CG) selection is adaptive with scene illumination and enhances the SNR and DR. …
