Indicator Lights For Storage Space Available In An Airplane Overhead Compartment, A. Mittal Dec 2022

Indicator Lights For Storage Space Available In An Airplane Overhead Compartment, A. Mittal

Defensive Publications Series

Searching for available storage space in overhead compartments on a plane often involves multiple iterations of opening, checking, and closing overhead storage compartments before a space suitable for storing the given piece of luggage is found. This manual process is inefficient and time consuming, and increases the time required for completing the flight boarding process. This disclosure describes the use of sensors in overhead compartments that detect availability of storage space. The available storage space in an overhead compartment is indicated to passengers via indicator lights and/or display screens of the in-flight entertainment system. Different colors can be used based …

Two-Party Webauthn Token Activation, Richard Barnes, Adam Goodman, Carson Hoffman Dec 2022

Two-Party Webauthn Token Activation, Richard Barnes, Adam Goodman, Carson Hoffman

Defensive Publications Series

In order to prevent attacks such as phishing, an enterprise needs their users to log in using a World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) Web Authentication (WebAuthn)-based authenticator. Current WebAuthn authenticator devices present a number of problems for an enterprise. For example, outsourcing authentication device distribution logistics to a device vendor brings great operational benefits to an enterprise, however this traditionally requires that a large amount of trust be placed in the vendor. Techniques are presented herein that split an authenticator's secret between the two parties (i.e., an enterprise and a vendor), requiring active collaboration by the parties to issue an …

Identification Of Faulty Software Binaries From End-To-End Tests, Shubham Sharma, Varun Puri, Babu Prasad Elumalai Dec 2022

Identification Of Faulty Software Binaries From End-To-End Tests, Shubham Sharma, Varun Puri, Babu Prasad Elumalai

Defensive Publications Series

Software products are built from a number of interacting binaries that are rolled out asynchronously, at differing schedules and paces. When there is a problem with a software product such as a failure or sub-par performance, identifying the binaries that are the source of a product failure or sub-par performance is difficult with end-to-end tests. Additionally, an apparently failing test can be a false positive that does require any code changes to fix, yet that demands human attention. This disclosure describes techniques to automatically determine, from end-to-end tests of a software product, code binaries that are at the root of …

Real-Time Compression Of Software Traces, Clinton Grant Dec 2022

Real-Time Compression Of Software Traces, Clinton Grant

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques are presented herein that support the compression of software-generated traces as a stream, in real time, with reduced central processing unit (CPU) overhead. Such an approach may reduce cloud hosting bandwidth charges and is relevant when moving troubleshooting information from a device into the cloud for analysis. Additionally, such an approach eliminates the bursty nature of file-based compression that is typically achieved using legacy compression utilities. As a result, the presented techniques are more amenable to small CPU footprints such as, for example, a cloud-based router having just a single CPU. Aspects of the presented techniques have a broad …
