Conversational Chatbot With User Customizable Utterance Style, Ping Zhong
Conversational Chatbot With User Customizable Utterance Style, Ping Zhong
Defensive Publications Series
Conversational agents such as chatbots or virtual assistants currently have a single speaking/utterance style when responding to user prompts or questions. Tasks where the user is looking for specific information or answer to a question benefit from a direct, clear answer. However, such answers are not suitable when users are looking for a conversation with a chatbot, as opposed to finishing a certain task quickly and efficiently. This disclosure describes a chatbot that tailors conversational style based on user prompts and/or preferences. In some implementations, the utterance style of answers (e.g., generated by an LLM or using other techniques) is …
Environmental Adaptation For Head Mounted Displays
Environmental Adaptation For Head Mounted Displays
Defensive Publications Series
When virtual reality (VR) users initially don their headset, the initial scene displayed can be much brighter than the ambient light the users are adapted to. This can cause some levels of eye discomfort. Gradual transitions from the real world to the virtual environment (VE), and smooth transitions from one VE to another can increase immersivity of the virtual experience.

Intelligent Network Probe Adjustment Based On Leosat Conditions, Dave Zacks, Robert Barton, Tim Szigeti, Jeff Apcar
Intelligent Network Probe Adjustment Based On Leosat Conditions, Dave Zacks, Robert Barton, Tim Szigeti, Jeff Apcar
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are presented herein that support the ability to dynamically create, implement, and monitor the performance of network probes in a low Earth orbit (LEO) satellite (LEOsat) deployment such that the probes can alert, as rapidly as possible, to real network and application performance issues while avoiding both the false positive and false negative conditions that are associated with more traditional, static network probe definitions. While such a dynamically defined probing capability would be valuable in any network deployment, it is especially so in a LEOsat deployment with its combination of highly variable delay, jitter, and packet loss, even between …

Locking Traffic Rerouting On A Current Working Route In An Optical Network, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure relates to optical networks and specifically to locking traffic rerouting on a current working route in an optical network. This can provide new commands in an optical control plane. This empowers network operators to take more informed decisions for every service in case testing or maintenance activities. For example, this approach provides an option to deal with issues on a current working route, where the mesh restorations can be denied/allowed. This will help meeting key requirement of network operators i.e., High network up-time and maximum traffic availability which used to get compromised because of maintenance activities such …

Utilizing A Human Computer Interaction Technique For Enabling Non-Disruptive Exploration Of App Contents And Capabilities In A Query Recommendation System, Keun Soo Yim
Defensive Publications Series
Conventional techniques for launching apps do not provide any facility to quickly launch app contents or app capabilities. This disclosure describes techniques for quickly launching app capabilities and contents, surfacing those capabilities/contents that result in high user interaction rate (UIR) without harming a total clicks metric. In contrast to conventional techniques, app contents and capabilities with high potential UIR are adaptively determined using heuristics and user-permitted interaction data. A quick scroll button advantageously enables providing a scroll interface with suggestions that are otherwise hidden behind a virtual keyboard or not displayed. App contents and capabilities with high potential UIR are …
A Type-To-Talk Framework Using Generative Voice Cloning Methods For Privacy-Preserving Communications, Dongeek Shin
A Type-To-Talk Framework Using Generative Voice Cloning Methods For Privacy-Preserving Communications, Dongeek Shin
Defensive Publications Series
A method for providing a text-to-speech framework that generated speech that mimics a user’s voice is disclosed. The proposed method receives sample speech from the user, and generates speaker embeddings specific to the user. The speaker embeddings are generated using a neural network. The speaker embeddings are used to fine-tune a generative vocoder. The finetuned generative vocoder can be used to generate speech that mimics the speech patterns and vocal characteristics of the user. Thus, text entered by the user can be converted to audio that sounds like the user’s speech. The generated audio is then transmitted to other participants …

System For Health Evaluation Involving Dynamically Grouped Entities, Mahesh Kumar Doraiswamy, Abhishek Sharma, Omanand Jha Vatsa
Defensive Publications Series
In observability and monitoring solutions, metrics can be collected for entities and health status for the entities can be evaluated based on certain rules. Health evaluation and reporting typically occurs on the same entities on which such metrics are collected/ingested. However, there are instances in which this approach may not suffice, such as instances in which metrics may need to be derived for parent entities based on child entities. Presented herein are techniques through which virtual entities can be dynamically introduced in order to derive metrics, health status, etc. for a parent entity based on child entity metrics.

Plan-And-Fill Scheme For Semantic Parsing, Dinkar Vasudevan, Sarthak, Rahul Goel, Jigar Gupta
Plan-And-Fill Scheme For Semantic Parsing, Dinkar Vasudevan, Sarthak, Rahul Goel, Jigar Gupta
Defensive Publications Series
Semantic parsing processes natural language queries to convert them into a structured parse. This disclosure describes a two-stage scheme for semantic parsing, comprising a plan stage and a fill stage. In the plan stage, the intent or plan behind an input query is identified. In the fill stage, a parse is generated by filling the plan with the relevant span from the query. The separation of parsing into plan and fill enables decoupling losses corresponding to basic intent generation (plan) and span identification (fill) stages. The described techniques provide the flexibility to decouple model parameters that correspond to the two …
Log Exploration And Analytics Using Large Language Models, Hari Bhaskar S
Log Exploration And Analytics Using Large Language Models, Hari Bhaskar S
Defensive Publications Series
Log data are typically stored in databases as schema-based entries in a structured format. Conventionally, log exploration requires an understanding of the fields, schema, and query parameters of the database. This disclosure describes techniques that use tabular large language models (LLMs) to process, mine, and make log data amenable to natural language queries. A relatively unsophisticated user with no database skills can query log files using natural language search. The LLMs can be fine-tuned using prompt engineering and causation information. The conventional, tedious mining of logs across multiple systems using database queries is replaced by a simple natural language interface …

Determining Device Position Using Ultrawideband To Customize Surround Sound, Aditya Ghadiali, Uiliong (Will) Lau
Determining Device Position Using Ultrawideband To Customize Surround Sound, Aditya Ghadiali, Uiliong (Will) Lau
Defensive Publications Series
Traditional surround sound experiences require precise placement of speakers at positions that are optimal for audio playback. Even after a careful setup, the audio experience may suffer depending on where the user sits relative to the speakers, since there is no way to intelligently adjust the equalizers for the different speakers distributed in space without localization information about the speakers. The techniques described in this disclosure utilize ultrawideband ranging to determine the relative position of different audio playback devices in an environment and the position of the user. A central node customizes the audio streams provided to each speaker device …
