Smart Alarm Updates Based On Updates To Calendar, Alex Chen Nov 2023

Smart Alarm Updates Based On Updates To Calendar, Alex Chen

Defensive Publications Series

Alarm features provided via a smartphone or other device enable a user to set a wake-up time of their choice. However, when a user’s calendar is updated overnight, the alarm time may cause the user to miss a newly added event or wake up early unnecessarily even when an early event has been canceled. This disclosure describes techniques, implemented with user permission, to automatically adjust the time of the wake-up alarm based on changes in the user’s calendar. The user’s calendar is examined periodically to determine if adjustments to the alarm wake-up time are necessary and make such adjustments automatically. …

Using Device Signals To Enable Trusted Conditional Access, Alistair Chappelle, Zhou Zhou Nov 2023

Using Device Signals To Enable Trusted Conditional Access, Alistair Chappelle, Zhou Zhou

Defensive Publications Series

It is important for enterprises to enable employees to remotely and securely access official resources. This disclosure describes techniques that enable enterprise identity management providers to review a set of trust-posture signals from a device to enable secure sign-on and access to enterprise resources. A cryptographic nonce is generated and shared with enterprise ecosystem partners, such that they can confirm that the operating system is working as intended. A large dataset is created from snapshots of device trust-posture signals and results of access requests. A large language model is trained on the large dataset. An application programming interface (API) that …

Automatically Updating Video Presentations Containing Dynamic Content Whenever The Content Changes, Alan Gatzke, Anuj Shah, Brian Christopher Powell, Ty Thorsen

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques are presented herein that support automatically updating the spoken words in a video presentation (using a custom text to speech (TTS) model that is tuned to the video creator’s own voice) that contains dynamic content whenever that content changes. Aspects of the presented techniques employ a cataloging mechanism, an image-to-text machine learning module, and a natural language processing (NLP) data labeling mechanism. Further aspects of the presented techniques offer an end-user interface that allows a user to select and verify which portions of the dynamic content should be automatically updated whenever a change is detected.

Wearable Device With Distance Sensing And Haptic Feedback For Visually Impaired Users, Gabriella Lanning, Jaime Guajardo, Dmitrii Boiarshinov

Defensive Publications Series

A blind walking cane (white cane) enables visually impaired users to navigate their surroundings. Through movement and touch of the white cane, such users can detect obstacles and/or change in terrain. However, in crowded environments, environments with a lot of moving objects, weather conditions such as rain or snow, or in environments where objects are at a distance longer than the cane itself, use of a white cane may be ineffective or impractical. In such situations, the cane may not provide essential feedback in time to avoid obstacles. This disclosure describes a wearable device that uses a distance sensor such …

Continual Learning System With Sentence Embeddings, Anonymous

Defensive Publications Series

Recent improvements in computing power and ambient technologies have opened up new perspectives in ambient intelligence and proactive software systems. The need emerges for an ambient and supportive system that deeply understands the user's needs and preferences under the current context. In this work, we propose a recommendation system that aggregates and understands the current situation and continuously learns from the user’s decision history. To leverage a rich pool of contextual data, the system dynamically changes the strategy and scope for contextualization and encodes multimodal data into unified embeddings. A contextual similarity database consisting of these embeddings is leveraged for …

Remote Pay, Mrutunjaya Chavadi, Devesh Gupta, Faiz Ahmed, Harini R, Shubham Shivhare

Defensive Publications Series

Disclosed herein is a method wherein a sender device initiates a transaction by requesting Virtual coins (Vcoins) in exchange for actual money through a remote pay application. A portion of this money is reserved for offline transactions. The sender device receives the Vcoins, which are essentially encrypted representations of the money, from a central server. These Vcoins are securely stored on the sender device before being transferred to the receiver device via locally established networks like NFC, Bluetooth, or Wi-Fi, facilitated by the remote pay application. The receiver device receives and securely stores the Vcoins. Both the sender and receiver …
