Digital Map With Integrated Toll Notifications And Account Recharge, Ajay Prasad, Preethi Chethan, Vishal Dalmia, Karthik Srinivas
Defensive Publications Series
Electronic toll booths that automatically debit toll charges from a prepaid account associated with a hardware tag are popular. However, having insufficient balance in the prepaid account can cause the user’s journey to be interrupted, as the user needs to recharge the account before crossing a toll booth. This disclosure describes techniques that enable the management of electronic toll accounts from within a digital map or navigation application and provide an easy process for payment. The techniques include real-time balance checks and predictive functionality based on the user’s location and route and can help ensure that users have sufficient funds …

Temperature Correction In Optical Enzymatic Assays Using Thermochromic Liquid Crystals, Herschel Watkins, Pete Richards
Temperature Correction In Optical Enzymatic Assays Using Thermochromic Liquid Crystals, Herschel Watkins, Pete Richards
Defensive Publications Series
Many point of care devices use enzymatic assays to quantify the analyte of interest. Enzyme efficiency can be strongly temperature dependent. Therefore, it is important to correct for temperature effects during the analysis of experimental results. This disclosure describes techniques to correct for temperature effects in enzymatic assaying by using thermochromic liquid crystals in parallel with the enzymatic assay to track real time temperature variation at the assay location. Temperature can thus be tracked at the precise assay location, rather than at some nearby point. By thus directly and empirically measuring temperature at the location that matters, assumptions about the …

Timeliness In Deterministic Network Data Transfer With An Mqtt Publisher For A Mobile Truck Platoon Scenario, Akram Sheriff, Pascal Thubert, Frank Brockners
Defensive Publications Series
Techniques are presented herein that support the guaranteed and timely delivery of operational technology (OT) messages across any technology-agnostic, wireless Internet of things (IoT) gateway (within a cluster, a truck platoon, a mobility as a service (MaaS) use case, etc.) when the primary node that is running an MQTT publisher (having an active network connection to an MQTT broker or MQTT server) becomes unavailable. Under such an arrangement, an MQTT broker could, depending upon the MaaS or other use case, be running in an edge layer (in an edge-native mode, in a fog layer, or in a cloud layer as …

System And Method For Secure Authentication Based On An Attribute Value, Anil Kumar Japa
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure relates to a method and system for secure authentication of user devices based on an attribute value. The present disclosure suggests updating a new temporary attribute value when a user performs actions like locking, or shutting down a user device. Thereafter, an authenticated application or resource is accessed using the decrypted value, wherein the decrypted value is used to obtain the current HostName lock status value. If the current HostName lock status value is not the same as the predefined value in a decrypted string, access to the authenticated application resources is allowed, otherwise access is restricted. …

Email Scanning Optimization Techniques, Suresh Gopathy, Gajendar Pandey
Defensive Publications Series
Typically, a Secure Mailbox (SM) or Secure Email Gateway (SEG) that receives emails for an organization scans emails and performs threat detection/handling for the emails (e.g., allowing or dropping emails) based on various handling policies configured for the organization. Currently, an SM/SEG completely scans all email each time an email traverses the SM/SEG (e.g., for an initial email and any subsequent replies/responses for a conversation/email thread), which can result in high usage of compute resources for an organization, potentially increasing the cost of email services, as well as increasing the latency of email delivery. In order to address such issues, …

Techniques To Prevent Organizations And End Users From Receiving Marketing Emails, Suresh Gopathy, Gajendar Pandey
Defensive Publications Series
Marketing companies typically maintain databases of reachable and valid email addresses, which they use to send marketing emails. Typically, a Secure Mailbox (SM) or Secure Email Gateway (SEG) for an organization accepts unsolicited emails and then handles the emails by allowing or dropping such emails based on various handling policies configured for the organization. However, such email handling typically does not curb the sender's behavior from continuing to send such emails. Provided herein are techniques through which an SM/SEG can bounce unsolicited emails sent to an organization's domain back to the sender, thereby increasing the bounce rate (percentage) of such …

Initiating digital payment to a merchant via a payment app requires users to scan a code identifying the merchant’s payment identifier. Scanning QR codes requires explicit user action, and can be time-consuming, cumbersome, and error-prone, especially in busy stores. The absence of prominently displayed QR codes at some merchant establishments further complicates the process. This disclosure describes techniques that improve the process of initiating digital payments to a merchant. With user permission, location-based triggers are used to determine likely payment intent and automatically provide a suitable prompt to the user, thus eliminating the need for manual scan of QR codes. …

Generating Geospatial Scene Summaries Using A Large Language Model, Jim Shuma, Ohan Oda
Defensive Publications Series
Digital map services offer a live view feature that provides users an augmented view of their surroundings. However, these features are only accessible to users who can view a display screen. While screen reader technology can provide voice output of on-screen content, such techniques are not particularly suitable for the type of information displayed in a live view. This disclosure leverages the summarization capabilities of a large language model (LLM) to provide a scene description to a user that is using a live map view. Per the techniques, in response to a user request from a user device, a digital …
Building Control And Sensor Power Use Optimization Using A Large Language Model, D Shin
Building Control And Sensor Power Use Optimization Using A Large Language Model, D Shin
Defensive Publications Series
Conventional building control and automation relies on a central decision logic that controls the in-building environment based on readings aggregated from multiple sensors distributed throughout the building. The operating mode is detect-then-decide, such that building control decisions are made only after data is received from the suite of sensors. These techniques do not work well when there are missing observations and are therefore energy intensive. Further, the central decision logic needs to be adapted to building-specific factors. This disclosure describes the use of a large language model (LLM) to automatically identify sensors in a building that can be turned off …

Automatic Validation Of User-Contributed Content Using Learned Similarity Function, Hari Bhaskar S, Nikhil Shirish Ketkar
Defensive Publications Series
The quality of user-contributed content at online platforms can vary. Manual validation of such content for quality and relevance is difficult and not scalable. No current techniques utilize known high quality content to rank user-contributed content. This disclosure describes techniques for scalable automatic validation of user-contributed content (UCC) provided to an online platform. A similarity function is learned based on merchant media and known high-quality user submitted media. The similarity function is used to score new UCC media and determine whether the new UCC media is relevant and of sufficient quality to include on the platform. The techniques improve the …

Optimizing Audio Beams And Camera Cropping In Collaborative Workspaces Based On Mute Button Locations, Sigurd Klasson
Optimizing Audio Beams And Camera Cropping In Collaborative Workspaces Based On Mute Button Locations, Sigurd Klasson
Defensive Publications Series
In collaborative workspaces, such as meeting rooms, it is desirable to optimize the direction of audio pickups (referred to herein interchangeably as 'beams') and also camera cropping to be focused on the location of a participant that is currently speaking during a collaborative session. Such optimizations are typically performed using audio triangulation techniques based on a speaker that is actively speaking during a meeting. However, when the audio in a meeting room is muted, it can be difficult to direct room cameras toward a meeting participant that desires to speak, as the audio triangulation techniques may be limited when no …
