2.5-Dimensional High Bandwidth Flexible Memory For High Performance Parallelism, N/A Feb 2024

2.5-Dimensional High Bandwidth Flexible Memory For High Performance Parallelism, N/A

Defensive Publications Series

The ratio of memory bandwidth to compute power (B/C ratio) of a compute die influences the performance of machine learning (ML) applications. The B/C ratio generally degrades with the size of the compute die, as compute power is proportional to the area of the compute die while bandwidth is proportional to the perimeter of the die. This disclosure describes techniques to increase the ratio of memory bandwidth to compute power within an integrated circuit by using tiling geometries that enable the attachment of a compute die to two or more memory dies and by enabling bidirectional workload flows within the …

Dynamic Modification Of Priority To Reduce Unnecessary Grandmaster Clock Changes In A Precision Time Protocol Network, Mike Overton, Andrew Scott Feb 2024

Dynamic Modification Of Priority To Reduce Unnecessary Grandmaster Clock Changes In A Precision Time Protocol Network, Mike Overton, Andrew Scott

Defensive Publications Series

Precision Time Protocol (PTP) networks typically implement timing redundancy by incorporating multiple clocks from which the grandmaster timing source is selected. The selection is done by the Best Master Clock Algorithm (BMCA) as a function of the clock quality and some configurable priority settings. In common configurations if the current grandmaster fails or its quality degrades, then an alternate will be selected. If the original clock is restored, then it will re-assume the grandmaster role. These grandmaster changes can be disruptive to the network, so this innovation is a means to dynamically modify the priority of the clocks to reduce …

Defensive Publications Series

Undesired side effects of too much or too little bandwidth reservation in a bypass label switched path (LSP) can be eliminated or at least reduced by having the point of local repair (PLR) compute multiple bypass LSPs to protect a resource (node and/or link). The bypass LSPs do not have any bandwidth reserved. In the event of a failure on the protected LSP, the PLR uses all the bypass LSPs, as opposed to a single bypass LSP, as backup next hops of the protected LSPs. More specifically, when the protected LSP fails, the data plane in the PLR views each …
