2d Print Surface For A 3d Printer, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

In a 3D printer, media is placed onto a flat surface and an image is printed which can then be

analysed to calibrate the printing process for better print quality. Three variable points of

adjustment allow the surface to be positioned at a desirable distance away from the printing

hardware. Media can be retained flat and its presence can be detected on the adjustable surface

with the use of a vacuum.

Electrostatic Discharge System For Modular Sensor Device, Hp Inc Nov 2018

Electrostatic Discharge System For Modular Sensor Device, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

The invention is a design for a printed circuit assembly (PCA) retention structure that grounds

the PCA without the use of dedicated components, tools to mount the PCA, or a grounding wire.

This design was developed for a modular sensor PCA which must be installed and replaced by

service technicians in tight spaces that do not accommodate the use of tools. Also, the addition of

dedicated components for grounding would have represented a material cost increase and

negatively impacted the ability to fit the PCA into the available space. The invention greatly

contributes to the long-term robustness and serviceability of …

Platform Foreign Object Detection System, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

In powder bed AM (additive manufacturing) processes, a build is produced

on top of a metallic build platform. The presence of foreign objects upon this

platform can induce different problems, from motor servo shutdown to a fire

hazard. Here we present an active thermography approach to detect such foreign

objects before their presence can harm the system. The approach is based on the

differential thermographic response of the build platform vs. common foreign

objects to irradiative heating.

Method And Apparatus For 3d Printer Leveling On Irregular Floors, Hp Inc Nov 2018

Method And Apparatus For 3d Printer Leveling On Irregular Floors, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

This disclosure relates to the field of leveling of 3D printing machines, where structures need to be

leveled over irregular floors. If some cases, printer’s structure will not provide sufficient structural

stiffness to constrain printer’s deformations within an admissible range, thus a leveling process that

corrects this eventual lack of flatness will be required. Commonly used leveling procedures may be

based either on geometrical condition measurements of specific printer’s structural components or

spatial position determination of printer’s reference points, this last one typically using laser tracker

instrumentation. These processes are typically either tedious or require the use of expensive

equipment.

Reinforcement Learning As A Basis For Optimization Of Operating Systems, Mark Schott

Defensive Publications Series

Reinforcement learning techniques are provided that generate initial training data to refine a machine-learning model (e.g., a neural network). The techniques allow a machine-learning system to make a correlation between inputs and outputs, and analyze generated outputs to produce new training data that will produce better outputs. The techniques start by profiling a system (e.g., an operating system) and a mock model of the machine-learning model that provides random outputs or outputs according to a simple heuristic. The techniques can then use the outputs to adjust heuristics of the system to obtain a wide variety of performance reactions of the …

Automatic Binding Of Virtual Internet Protocol Address To The Appropriate Interface, Ravi Kumar Vadapalli, Srinivas Jakkam Shivaji, Kousik Nandy Nov 2018

Automatic Binding Of Virtual Internet Protocol Address To The Appropriate Interface, Ravi Kumar Vadapalli, Srinivas Jakkam Shivaji, Kousik Nandy

Defensive Publications Series

Techniques are described herein for providing an innovative configuration model that requires a user to configure Virtual Internet Protocol (VIP) addresses in just one place, thus avoiding the possibilities of configuration error and also making the network infrastructure easy to deploy. For example, to configure four VIP addresses in a three-node cluster, state-of-the-art configuration models would require the user to touch/configure twelve values spanning across three appliances, which is cumbersome and error prone. By contrast, the configuration model described herein has just one touch point in the whole cluster.

Using Propagation Delay In Weighted Decision Routing Algorithms, Nicholas George Mcdonald Nov 2018

Using Propagation Delay In Weighted Decision Routing Algorithms, Nicholas George Mcdonald

Defensive Publications Series

Routing algorithms that use a weighted decision based on queue occupancy and hop count (e.g., UGAL) estimate the expected remaining delay by multiplying the hop count and queue occupancy. They choose the route that yields the lowest weight which approximates the lowest delay. This algorithm assumes all channel lengths are equal, which is very untrue in large scale networks. This invention integrates the propagation delay into the equation to yield a realistic expected delay value to be compared with other options.

Image Quality Analysis Customization For Variance In Customer Sensitivity, Hp Inc Nov 2018

Image Quality Analysis Customization For Variance In Customer Sensitivity, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

In the development of system that can analyze image quality of a printed page, there is variability in

what the customer will consider unacceptable image quality for their print job. The algorithms, be them

expert rule based, deep learning, or some other AI variant, will output a value for the image quality that

fits within a range. The low end of that range is generally considered good image quality, while the high

end is considered poor image quality. With customer variance, any system employing the analysis of

image quality will have to take that variance in account. One way to …

Multi-Factor Adaptive Machine Learning Evaluation In Production Environments, Hp Inc Nov 2018

Multi-Factor Adaptive Machine Learning Evaluation In Production Environments, Hp Inc

Defensive Publications Series

In machine learning applications, a system takes a data set and runs it through the machine learning

model to create a prediction. It is necessary for some systems to do this on a continual basis for

example, a computer vision system continually evaluates the environment to recognize objects. In other

systems it is not necessary to run data through the model every time new data is available and may not

result in a significantly different prediction if it was. In these systems, it would be more cost‐effective to

space out runs of the model. Since running a machine learning model …
