Techniques To Facilitate Intelligent Mec Application Deployment For Private 5g Enterprise Networks, Robert Barton, Matthias Falkner, Indermeet Gandhi, Jerome Henry, Vinay Saini
Defensive Publications Series
Private 5G networks are emerging that allow a cellular network to be deployed and operated as an extension of an enterprise network. The deployment of such a private 5G cellular network typically involves the integration of cellular network components with exiting elements of an enterprise network, such as using the existing network to implement fronthaul, midhaul, and backhaul network connectivity. A key advantage of 5G cellular connectivity is the ability to offer edge compute resources to user equipment through the use of multi-access edge compute (MEC) deployments. However, in an enterprise network, edge compute resources may be scarce. In order …

A Mechanism Of Wireless Transmission At High Speed Between Laptops, Hp Inc
A Mechanism Of Wireless Transmission At High Speed Between Laptops, Hp Inc
Defensive Publications Series
For the scenario that two laptops transfer big data to each other without going through any network or router, the common methods are wired connections (Thunderbolt/USB-C/Ethernet), wireless connections (Bluebooth/WIFI Direct), or external storage devices. The advantages of direct transmission are lower latency, enhanced security, and higher transfer rate.
Global Cybersecurity plans to roll out new company-wide technical controls on USB devices on October 1, 2023. The new controls will prevent employees from writing to USB-powered external memory devices on their devices (PCs, laptops).
We proposed a mechanism of reliable and secure high-speed wireless transmission between laptops by utilizing dynamic phase …

Techniques To Indicate Latency Of Packets In Network Nodes, Anshul Tanwar, Kumaril Kapoor
Defensive Publications Series
Applications operating via network communications have long evolved from the use of basic data, as audio and video applications continue to evolve in terms of latency requirements and, as such, the number of differentiated flows (per application) continues to evolve as well. With applications evolving that are utilize low latency packet paths from network, it can be challenging to determine the latency of packets in a network that are associated with latency sensitive applications. This proposal provides techniques through which a new header can be embedded into packets in which the new header can be used to indicate the total-residence-time …
Explainable Feature Drift Monitoring System For Predictive Machine Learning Models, Hao Xu, Can Liu, Chiranjeet Chetia
Explainable Feature Drift Monitoring System For Predictive Machine Learning Models, Hao Xu, Can Liu, Chiranjeet Chetia
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure provides a novel method wherein a classifier-based drift scoring model is initially constructed using historical data. The derivation of SHAP (SHapley Additive exPlanations) values from the drift scoring model is employed to discern the individual contributions of various features to the calculated drift score. To enhance the granularity of drift pattern comprehension, new data is systematically categorized into multiple clusters based on the similarity of their drift patterns, as elucidated by SHAP values. The performance degradation of a deployed predictive model is then meticulously evaluated under distinct drift patterns. This evaluation offers detailed insights into the differential …
Continuous Artificial Reality Experiences
Continuous Artificial Reality Experiences
Defensive Publications Series
Aspects of the present disclosure are directed to continuous artificial reality (XR) experiences. Some implementations can seamlessly transition between XR experiences as a user walks around her home space wearing her XR device. For example, when in the living room, the user can automatically be within an XR home experience, while in the office, the user can automatically be transported to an XR workspace experience, without having to go through a portal and wait for the XR workspace experience to load. Some implementations can preload XR experiences as the user approaches corresponding home areas.

Promoting Sleep By Dynamically Controlling Environmental Parameters In A Smart Home, Jason Short, Brian Paschke, Kevin Gaunt
Defensive Publications Series
Smart home features can automate and/or personalize various functions and routines, such as turning on the lights automatically when motion is detected in a dark room, automatically closing the skylights when it starts raining, etc. Smart home devices lack the capability to make dynamic adjustments to user-specified operating parameters or pre-programmed routines. Yet, such adjustments are often necessary to handle variations in the user’s needs and context as captured via real time information. As a result, the potential of a smart home to maximize user comfort and facilitate healthier living for the occupants is not fully realized. This disclosure describes …

Defensive Publications Series
Smart home devices can be controlled via user commands to a virtual assistant. However, the need to issue explicit commands to the virtual assistant for tasks performed routinely in specific contexts limits the user experience. This disclosure describes a virtual assistant with the capability of proactively suggesting relevant domestic actions to smart home users. The suggested actions can be chosen from a database of relevant home automation actions. Each action in the database can be associated with relevant information regarding the context in which the action was performed. When a user’s context matches that for past actions recorded in a …

Rapid Determination Of Receiver Sensitivity Via Integral Search, Sherry Lo, Yang Yang, Jay Lee
Rapid Determination Of Receiver Sensitivity Via Integral Search, Sherry Lo, Yang Yang, Jay Lee
Defensive Publications Series
Receiver sensitivity is a measure of the lowest signal strength that a receiver can detect. Receiver sensitivity is typically measured by linearly incrementing the received power level until a target packet error rate (PER) is reached. Linear search is slow and can occupy substantial test resources such as test stations and instruments. This disclosure describes techniques to rapidly determine the receiver sensitivity of a device-under-test (DUT) by learning the ensemble characteristics of devices under test, building a packet error rate (PER) model, performing limited-range measurements of the DUT, and using the PER model and the results of the measurements to …

Discrete Node Turn-Up In A Non-Ase Managed Optical Line System, Anonymous
Defensive Publications Series
The present disclosure relates to discrete node turn-up in a non-Amplified Spontaneous Emission (ASE) managed optical line system. On a discretely-controlled, non-ASE managed line system, an individual node that requires a given spectrum condition, detects if the input spectrum is meeting the criteria to proceed with calibration, sends a request to the originating node to generate ASE or homogenous spectrum, and proceeds with sequential calibration and keeping the source open until the full section is calibrated. In addition, a controller can detect if the Optical Multiplex Section (OMS) is turning up for the first-time, by comparing a first-time flag status …

Optimizing Audio Beams And Camera Cropping In Collaborative Workspaces Based On Mute Button Locations, Sigurd Klasson
Defensive Publications Series
In collaborative workspaces, such as meeting rooms, it is desirable to optimize the direction of audio pickups (referred to herein interchangeably as 'beams') and also camera cropping to be focused on the location of a participant that is currently speaking during a collaborative session. Such optimizations are typically performed using audio triangulation techniques based on a speaker that is actively speaking during a meeting. However, when the audio in a meeting room is muted, it can be difficult to direct room cameras toward a meeting participant that desires to speak, as the audio triangulation techniques may be limited when no …

Fusing Voice And Gesture Input To Improve Text Transcription Accuracy, D Shin
Defensive Publications Series
While speech input, detected by on-device microphones, enables users to provide voice commands or other text at a higher speed than typing, the accuracy of transcription can suffer in certain environments, e.g., in the presence of background noise. Gesture input via a virtual keyboard is convenient but slower and also prone to errors, e.g., when a gesture resolves to multiple words. Per techniques of this disclosure, a user can provide spoken and gesture input at the same time to a user device. Each input is converted to text separately. The stereo text stream is time aligned using word-to-word distance to …
